This personal guide to discipleship is practical, friendly, and manageable. It shows how God can use anyone―even the person who considers himself not gifted in discipleship―to build His kingdom.
One of the best books on 3rd Generation discipling I've read. Scott writes with a great blend of humor and hard-hitting content. I recommend this book to anyone who desires a fruitful 2 Timothy 2:2 ministry.
This book is great. In the past, my attempts to make disciples (in accordance w/ the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 & Paul’s charge to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:1-2) have been rather feeble, as I didn’t really have any guidelines for what to do w/ someone after they professed faith. (I usually continued w/ Bible study as normal, albeit w/ content meant for new Christians rather than non-Christians.) I realize now that my method, though God did use it in one person’s life, fell short in a multitude of ways, and this book has shown me a better way to go about discipleship.
As I was reading this book, I’d started to have mixed feelings about the fact that I’ve never been formally trained in discipleship. See, I’ve been involved in the ministry of Campus Outreach at SIUe for the last 4 years, and they usually give this book to servant leaders (i.e., the name given to room leaders on CO’s summer projects). I never received the type of training that servant leaders receive, as I never was one. (Not that I wish I was one, but training to disciple people would have been nice.) I’m glad that my friend Luke, who was a servant leader last summer, let me borrow his copy of this book, as I now have some idea of an effective discipleship ministry for my life. Unfortunately, I will no longer be able to apply what I’ve learned either in the context of the campus or within CO, but I’m hoping to use what I’ve learned in this book wherever I may go in the future. (Also, I’m definitely buying my own copy at some point. This book is too good.)
As expected of a Navigator’s material this is simply top notch in regards to disciplining. If you are a scholar or lay person who takes disciplining of believers seriously, this is a must read!
Practical advice for beginning and growing a discipling relationship. Good tools in resource appendix combine with sage and transparent advice. In many ways, the book is an excellent example of how to disciple.
Hyper practical. Great appendix in the back full of easy 'pass-on-able' tools. I would have bought this book just for that. I think the title is true to the book, most definitely. A great read for anyone trying to follow in the ministry model and foot steps of Jesus, or for any Navigator for that matter.
Scott Morton's Book was one practical tool to help in the discipleship after another. So many books on Discipleship is more theory than practicality, This book is all practicality. The only thing I wished for was more depth in some of his practical tools. This book will be in my pastors tool box for many years. A must read if you are trying to grow your efforts in discipleship!
