This should have been updated a long time ago, it is a good book approaching thermal phenomena statistically. Yet, it is old, published about 60 years ago. The mathematics involved has been explained in the beginning, thus no need for special treatment on probability. Excellent problems at the end of each chapter, what's better, there are answers at the end of the book, which makes it a great material for independent study. I think chapter 4 is the best, in my opinion. Statistical Mechanics isn't easy, I'll have to read (at least) another text for better comprehension. Let's aim for Kittle & Kroemer.
