With an obligation to uphold the laws of prohibition and an undercover persona in place, U.S. Deputy Marshal Ethan Beaudry comes to town ready to end a shady bootlegging ring. i love the romance and chemistry between ruby and ethan.the way they met, their almost similar pasts.a story of overcoming your fears, abuse, starting a new life and letting go of the past.the law enforcement element of the story was a definite score with me and the bonds between family.a perfectly happy and welcomed ending with all that they had to face to get to the end.makes me want to reread the book again

I found this book a bit of a departure from the usual formula with the attraction between the hero and heroine beginning strongly from the get-go, instead of building slowly and gradually. I was intrigued to find out how the author would keep the tension going and she managed to build a great plot, provide interesting historical background and keep the characters interesting in the midst of it all.

Very good story

This story is not connected to the title or is it the same one described in the information about this book. This is about Ruby, a battered wife in the 1920s who shoots her husband and is let lose by a jury. She moves west near her brother and tries to start over with her two daughters. She meets a Federal Marshall who is under cover looking for bootleggers. You need to read this to finish the story. It is very good with believable characters and a good story. However this is definitely not The Widowed Bride.

I really enjoyed this book. Just the right amount of action and romance. Enjoyable characters except for the villain of course. Highly recommend.

This is the first inkling I've had that this is the 4th book in a series of 'Brides' books by Elizabeth Lane (see the list below). This story takes place in 1920, during Prohibition.

Ethan Beaudry is a US Marshal working undercover in a small town, Dutchman's Creek, Colorado. He's looking for a bootlegging ring and doesn't know who to trust.

Ruby Denby Rumford is also new in town and she has a very disturbing past. She has purchased the old boarding house that has been used for suspicious activities. Is she part of the ring?

Potential husbands are coming out of the woodwork trying to attract the lovely Ruby but she's had enough of husbands. She had to shoot the last one and just wants to live a quiet life with her two daughters.

The main characters are fleshed-out and interesting; the situation is rather different. Ruby and Ethan are very attractive individuals with serious problems. I read this in one day because I couldn't put it down.

I wish I had started with the first book; these stories are about Gustavsons, Denbys and Seavers.
