Liz Palika (Oceanside, CA) is an award-winning pet writer with more than 45 books to her credit, including Turtles & Tortoises For Dummies .
Palika has included a lot of good content, especially when it comes to dealing with health issues or shedding difficulties. There are also some great links for further information. The only thing that prevents this book from being rated higher is the lack of quality photos.
It was a great book for beginners, there is also some out dated content but I excuse that. I also loved the humor. They could have added more detail, but overall I loved it. It was an organized book as well. I would recommend this book to beginner Leo owners, but do more research.
Leopard Geckos for Dummies is an informational look at everything leopard gecko. It contains a brief history on leopard geckos, how to take care of them, the different type of leopard geckos, and how to select a leopard gecko that is right for you. This book is good for kids because it doesn't use nearly as much technical jargon that some of the other books in the same genre use. Granted, this is a very specific book, but kids who like lizards would find it interesting how to take care of one. The pictures are black and white though, which definitely makes it less interesting to look at.
This is my first "For Dummies" book and it was actually quite a nice read. The author wrote simply defining things I might not have understood and still found occasions to work in humor. I was worried that this book would end up being a text book to just use for reference but I actually enjoyed reading it and I cant wait to have my own leopard gecko knowing I can properly care for it.
