I like this author- I also like her quirky style, humor, and her overall story telling style. That said, I could find nothing to like about this book. :(

The swearing, oddz spelledz words, and the way that things kept jumping around annoyed me vs entertained me. I think because the plot was so thin and so many information gaps were abundant it just made it into a painful read for me. While it was nice to see previous characters, these new ones are thrown together because. Just because. Couldn't buy into the relationship or understand why they even liked each other outside of physical attraction.

So I haz a sad. Bummed that perhaps I just don't enjoy Dakota's books anymore.

Dakota's Accidental Friends series was an accidental find for me back in 2008. I stumbled on the first book, The Accidental Werewolf in an airport bookstore. It was the only light and funny book available that might hold my interest for the long flight ahead. While there are things about this series that drive me batty, throughout the four previous installments I have gotten a kick out of seeing how they each handle their "accidental" change and introductions into the world of supernatural(ly hot guys). The first book had more of those "things that drive me batty" (ie: Color Wheel overload), but it did more than hold my attention, it had me trying to hold in my giggles so the people next to me didn't think I was a freak. From then on, this series has never failed to make me laugh out loud and for that, I thank Dakota.

Accidentally Catty introduces us to a character outside of the Fab Four's circle, Katie Woods. She a vet who accidentally gets scratched by a cougar who has shown up at her clinic. When you're facing something unexpected and supernatural, who ya gonna call? OOPS. Leave it to this bunch to come up with a name like that. OOPS is their Out in the Open Paranormal Support hotline. Nina is doing what she does best, pick on Wanda and Marty.

The lady of OOPS get a call from Katie's vet tech and rush to her rescue. This beautiful cougar turns out to be shifter, Spanky/Beck/Shaw. He's got amnesia, but there's one thing he's certain about ... his feelings for Katie. She can't help but notice his good looks, but she's 41 and he's ... younger, or so she thinks.

The team heads to Katie's Aunt Bettina's (or Teeny for short) house. And the hits just keep comin'. There's no shortage of LOL lines in this one and Teeny has more than a few. The girls help Katie deal with her hot cougar and transition. Nina, a vampire, has some trouble adjusting to their temporary accommodations.
"... let's get one thing straight, pussycat. I'm fucking tired. I slept in a walk-in closet that smelled like the perfume counter at Macy's all in the name of some peace. I need to feed soon. Add to that, I don't like people - especially new people like A River Runs Through It and you, Chicken Little. Being with you all for the last twelve hours has been like some kinds of 'new people' intervention by force. It makes me cranky. So can the cocky."

There's a plethora of hot, sexy quips used to describe how luscious they find Shaw. Some of my favorites include:

Teeny's reaction to meeting Katie's hottie,
"Ooooh-weeee. Ain't you finer n' a plate of fried chicken and gravy? I could just sop you up in a biscuit."

And, Casey notes,
"...he's fabulous and worthy of a good sheet shining. You have to admit, he's like a Blow Pop. One you wanna lick till you get to the middle."

I thought the series would stop once all the members of the main group of girls got their HEA, but I'm happy to see it continue. I'm even happier to see there are two more expected in 2012: Accidentally Dead, Again and The Accidental Genie.

Absolutely fabulous, funny book! Full review coming soon!

Full review reposted from my Smitten with Reading blog....

My Review:
I don't usually start out a book review this way, but I think that this book needs my favorite quote first just to give you a feel for the humor in this book:
Nina chuckled, giving Katie her infamous devilish grin. "It means you aren't just a werecougar, lady. You're a cougar-cougar. You took stereotyping to a whole 'noter level. You're like one of those 'doesn't look her age' chicks who hits on young dudes because they got the zoom in their boom still happening. You're a total label. Hot. Niiiice work, Mrs. Robinson."

This book is #5 in the Accidentally series. I haven't read books 1-4 yet, but I can promise you that they are at the top of my to-buy list. This book was hilarious, touching, and oh-so-much fun!

Katie is a vet who comes home from dinner to find a cougar on her front porch. While trying to get him situated into her office, she accidentally gets scratched. Within 2 hours, she has a paw and canines. Her assistant quickly calls OOPS (Out in the Open Paranormal Support) which is made up of the 4 heroines from the 4 previous Accidental books. Their goal is to help people transition into the paranormal world, but they haven't quite figured out the best approach to this so their hi-jinks are just as hilarious as anything else in this book.

Our cougar is none other than the shapeshifter Spanky-Beck-Shaw. The multiple name is a result of the fact that he has amnesia. He has no recollection of who he is, of what he is, or how to help Katie with her transition. Add to that the fact that he looks to be barely 20 years old to Katie's 41 year old age and there are some absolutely hilarious age-related quips throughout this entire book.

This book is so irreverent and funny. It was thoroughly enjoyable. The OOPS team banter with each other and everyone else in the book with snark and wit that I love- it's all (well almost all) done in fun and with love. This is absolutely the kind of humor that I love to read.

Spanky-Beck-Shaw has his own wit and humor. He is in a really difficult and uncomfortable position, but he remains laid-back and unruffled- confident in who he is (although he has no recollection of who that actually is) and confident in his desire for Katie.

Katie is coming off a really bad divorce and deception which has made her question her ability to read people and to trust herself. It's wonderful to watch her growth in this book as she re-learns that there are still good people in this world.

This was an exceptional book in the level of how much I flat-out enjoyed it and was entertained by it. I cannot wait to find the first 4 books in this series.

Veterinarian Katie Woods thought she was helping a poor injured cougar but when she accidentally scratches herself on his paw she quickly learns her newest patient is more than what he seems. Soon after Katie's hand turns into a furry paw and she gets a killer new set of teeth. While there is some shock and denial, I think Katie takes in the situation pretty well. It helped that her assistant called OOPS, or out of the closet paranormal support, which is run by Wanda, Marty, Nina and Casey (all from previous books) and was formed to help people like Katie who find themselves in paranormal situations they know nothing about. The ladies come over and in their own hilarious way tell Katie about the paranormal world. Katie's understanding may have come a bit too easily for most but I was glad she didn't freak out about it. The freaking out has already been done in the earlier books in the series and I wouldn't have enjoyed this book as much if another character spent the next 300+ pages being convinced all this is really happening.

After talking to Katie, the girls head to the cage where the cougar is being housed and are surprised to find a very naked and uber sexy man in its place. After waking Spanky up (that's what his collar said) they try to question him and find out that won't be any help because Spanky has no idea who he is or what happened. Shaw (a.k.a. Spanky) has no idea what's going on but he has no problem staying close to the beautiful vet he is accused of turning into a cougar. Shaw is a likable character for a lot of reasons. He's undoubtedly hot with a sexy British accent but it's how he treats Katie that had me falling for him. Shaw looks like he is in his early twenties at the most and Katie is over 40. He sees no age when he looks at her instead he sees a strong, intelligent woman who deserves to be treated better by the people in her small town. Did I mention the hot accent?

Katie has been treated with little respect since moving to the small town in upstate New York because they think she is trying to steal business from the town vet who was there first. Since the arrival of her "fancy city friends" it's only been worse. On top of that, Nina and Wanda are being accused of putting Dr Daniel Green, the old man in charge of a wild life park, in a coma and someone has their deadly eyes set on Katie and Shaw. While the same feel of the previous books was there, I thought the story involving Dr Green and the circumstances of Shaw's amnesia added a little more depth to the overall story.

Accidentally Catty starts off slow and somewhat scattered but as the book progresses the pace picks up and the story takes off. In true Dakota Cassidy fashion there's a lot of humor and hi-jinks involved and no matter how serious the story gets, you know it will end with a good laugh. Fans who like humorous paranormal romance books will enjoy this book.

The rating should improve after reading the earlier books in the series because there are a lot of previous characters that were funny but I was a little lost.

Okay, I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the others in the series, but I did like it a lot. Katie is an older woman (41), and she's finally getting ready to date. It was definitely a bit unrealistic (of course all vampire books are to me), but this one more so. She is a veterinarian who moves to New York and finds herself in her new vet's office with a freaking cougar. What I did love about it is that the cougar magically turns into a hot, sexually charged man.

Just like in the other books, Katie is somehow accidentally changed from who she is into something else. I am an animal lover overall, and Katie is able to read their minds. I have always enjoyed books that allow me to get into the mind of an animal and what it might be thinking or saying, if only it could talk. Maybe it's because I am not a cat lover in particular that I didn't enjoy this book quite as much.

After stopping to help an injured cougar veterinarian Katie Woods quickly realises that she just brought a ton of trouble into her life when her hand suddenly turns into a paw after being scratched. With a set full of new teeth, Katie goes through all the logical medical reasons for her sudden transformation. Lucky for Katie, the crew of OOPS is on the task. Having been through an accidental turning before, Wanda, Marty, Nina and Casey are on the case. Katie thought that suddenly having a paw was pretty wild but when the cougar who scratched her turned into a handsome Englishman, Kate quickly realised that this already complicated situation is even more complicated - or, at least, that is what her quickly beating heart is telling her.

This book five of the Accidentals series and it's now absolutely formulaic. It goes like this: girl gets accidentally scratched/bitten by some supernatural creature, girl has a freak out cause she is no longer completely human, boy feels immediate attraction and of course responsibility for the change, boy is also dealing with some kind of mortal danger, girl and boy solve his problems and have their HEA. These books are so formulaic that at this point I swear they've been written by the numbers.

Each male interest comes with their own little twist and in Shaw's case it's amnesia. Because he cannot remember who he is let alone his own name, Shaw is of little help assisting Katie with her change. Shaw is the typical tall dark and handsome type with a shade of commanding and creepy. Creepy how you may wonder? When a man sniffs a womans panties to ensure that he is straight, I'd say a shade of creepy is an accurate description. On the side of good, Shaw is entertaining and sarcastic, easily my favorite character in Accidentally Catty.

Unfortunately, once again, Nina makes an appearance in this book. I just want this character to disappear into a massive plot hole and never ever return. Being a vampire, Nina is the enforcer of the OOPS crew but has the class of a billy goat. Look, I'm not one with virgin ears or eyes but I am sick of Nina's dialogue because every second word she says is fuck. The constant swearing doesn't make her look tough but it just makes her look ignorant with a teeny vocabulary. I also don't understand exactly why the women are friends with Nina. They all constantly have to hold her back and tell her to shut up, even as she bullies them, curses them out and threatens them every second page.

Okay sorry about the Nina rant but I cannot stand that character and in fact, I deserve a cookie for putting up with her for FIVE books. Okay, back to Katie. Kate is in her early forties and recovering after a bad divorce in which her work reputation was ruined. When Shaw enters her life, the last thing she is looking for is romance, particularly with someone who doesn't look old enough to vote. Kate quickly becomes obsessed with the idea that she is a cradle robber and goes into complete denial. So how does she deal with having an attraction she feels is inappropriate? Well, she tries to convince herself that Shaw is gay.

It's worth noting that this is book 5 in the Accidentals series and we have yet to be introduced to a single LGBT character. Instead, what Cassidy offered us was a terrible parody of inclusion. Kate tells herself that Shaw must be gay to deal with her uncomfortable attraction to him. If Shaw is gay then he is safe as far as Kate is concerned. Other than Kate's fear of her attraction to Shaw, she justifies believing that he is gay based in the fact that he made some vague reference to Project Runway. Having the straight love interest being thought of as gay is a cheap device and offensive. Then Cassidy doubles down on her offensiveness.

I am about 30 pages in and would love the author to get to the every-lovin point. She is so concerned about writing with a clever, overeager pseudo-toughass style that I am extremely annoyed.... but.... still interested because I can tell somewhere under the all "homeslice" street crap posturing there may be an interesting story. I absolute hate Nina and am wondering why she is even allowed around these people if they despise her and are so annoyed by her (and don't hesitate to tell her so)! I hope all the hip and fresh talk gets dialed down A LOT and the initial surprise at Yes!We Are ALL Supernatural! Beings! goes away because that is taking foreverrr too: showing all these non-believers that they can do magical stuff and, indeed, there are more of us out there, too. Just get on with the story already!

Well, I finished it and am glad to say the tough talk got dialed down appropriately, Nina wasn't so prominent and there was a nice (if predictable) romance there as well. It was enjoyable, but not really an author I would continue to read over and over.

It's feast or famine for me with this author. I'd recommend this story to people who aren't me and won't start twitching at the split second barely part of the plot comment that apparently homosexuality doesn't exist in the animal kingdom.
Um. No.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of... (this is me being nice, I almost just put in every individual gay penguin couple I could find because COME ON, gay penguins).

Okay, that bothered me a bit, but honestly the story just kept ALMOST taking off for me. I'm not sure why. I bought the chemistry and enjoyed...parts of the couple's interactions and personalities? IDEK. It just didn't click for me.
But holy shit, apparently giraffes REALLY like the gay sex. *keeps going down the rabbit hole*

This is the first book of the series that I actually really enjoyed. I loved it in fact... I have been on the fence about this series from the beginning. The first 4 books were 2 star reads for me and then this book happened and I am 100% in now. I love the OOPS business. I love the 4 core characters now. I found them extremely annoying when they were the main characters in their own books but as side characters they are absolutely fantastic. They make me laugh instead of annoy me like they did in their own books.

I have already finished the next book and I loved it as well. I know this review tells you nothing about his specific book but its the turning point for me. I was about to give up on this series all together and I am so so glad I didn't.

I like this series, somewhat predictable as each book follows a formula, but for the most part the kookiness of the characters make up for that. The only time I get tired of things when I am reading these are when Nina starts to go off on one of her rants, with swear words flying like snow flakes in a blizzard. A little of Nina goes a long way and if it wasn't for her secret nice side I would skip over parts with her.

With this book our 4 previous heroines have decided to band together creating a group for people just like them, people that have accidentally fallen into the supernatural life. Through a panicked call they come to meet Dr. Katie Woods, a vet, newly bitten by a cougar. Even with the evidence staring her in her face, her left hand now a paw, her doctor's mind has a hard time getting it.

Once Katie seems to understand just what is happening to her, the girls help her wake up the cougar/man, that has bitten her. This is where things move from slightly crazy to WTF land as this man looks like more of a man/boy, barely out of his teens, and he had no idea what his name is or even what is going on.

Soon Katie finds her house full, the 4 woman, plus the man who put her in this situation, but there is no worry about them fitting in as Katie's crazy aunt lives with her too. Suddenly this house is madhouse, welcome to supernatural center.

Katie fights her attraction to the guy, feeling guilty as she is old enough to be his mother, but still can't help looking. Wanda and Nina stick around to help the 2 of them and as they dig deeper they learn some very interesting things, and Katie and the guy stop fighting their attraction.

Things get interesting as more of the cougar lore is discovered, even a battle, people kidnapped where they save themselves with a tongue ring (weird I know), and things said that hurt people. It all makes for a action packed ending.

This series started off as funny with a entertaining approach to the paranormal world. Now at book 5, I'm finding it formulaic. And worse, I found the story rather chaotic and choppy. While the book started off with the main characters of the series - Wanda, Nina, and Marty (although Marty wasn't around much for this book) - starting on the OOPS venture, it quickly turned into the same ole girl gets bitten/scratch by a paranorm, changing hijinks ensue, hot sweaty sex happens, romance blossoms, high drama occurs, and then the happily ever after. Yawn. Got that in the books 1 through 4. Plus, now there's even more characters with Katie, Shaw, Teeny and Katie's staff - so just as Wanda was getting really interesting, she was pushed aside, mainly relegated to telling Nina to be quiet and commenting on how unhelpful Nina was. And Nina was stuck with the same ole schtick of switching between cursing everyone and threatening anyone, even though there's been hints of a deeper personality. On top of the character issues, I found the story rather a mess, not nearly as cleanly written or funny as the previous books. It felt as if the author was just pushing this story out to meet a deadline instead of crafting characters and world building to add to the world of accidentals. I may never know if we ever get to see more of Nina's softer side because I'm not terribly interested in continuing this series if the storytelling remains, as I fear, this formulaic.

REVIEW:
The last thing that Dr. Woods ever expected to find on her doorstep is a cougar. But when said cougar scratches her strange things start happening. To make matters worse Katie’s lovely assistant has called OOPS for help. What is OOPS you say? You will need to pick up a copy of Accidentally Catty to find out. But in the mean time Dr. Katie Woods just learned that she is a cougar shifter and the person responsible is not only a cougar but a very naked and yummy man locked in one of her crates. Let the chaos ensue.

Another fun book from Ms. Cassidy. Ms Cassidy can never let her Accidentals have a simple time of things. I loved Katie & Shaw. They are both stubborn and have a wicked sense of humor. We get to see all the other Accidentals too. Wanda and Nina play a huge roll in this book.

And as always Ms. Mitchell does a great job bring the characters to life. And Shaw so dreaming. Thank you Ms. Mitchell for doing such a great job with Shaw. On to the next one :)

Another fun read from The Accidentals! I'm glad I stuck with this series when it had a less than stellar start - the characters drew me in and continue to make it a really fun series to read. I really enjoyed some of the twists in Accidentally Catty - the girls have started an agency/company/whatever-you-call-it named OOPS for helping accidental paranormals such as themselves and they get a phone call from a vet who has sprouted a paw after helping a cougar and getting scratched.

I think Nina is my favorite character in the series - she's so outwardly harsh but clearly has a heart of gold. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series, though I do think I'm taking a short break to switch series for a little bit.

I'm so glad I decided to this series on audio - the narration has been really good and I've come to identify the ladies by their voices that fit them so well.

This didn't seem funny to me, I didn't like the characters, and the plot skipped around. I think that the author was trying to set a fast pace, but it just seemed like noise. I felt like the characters were shrill. Plus, maybe I am just a NY liberal, but I didn't like all of the characters calling each other hurtful names. I wouldn't want to be friends with an adult who called a Native American by some stupid Dances-With-Wolves knock-off name immediately upon meeting him. And I have been trying not to use "retarded" lately. There is a character who is supposed be difficult and angry, so it fits her character, but there are other people who are saying it too. Ick.

This book was headed for 4 stars until a series of stupidity ruined the book. A werewolf/vampire/cougar are you kidding? WTFreak??? The inane, riduculous ending dropped this book to 2 1/2 stars.
This author also has no idea how to properly use comic relief to diffuse a tense situation. Her heavy handed attempts at the wrong times were irritating.
