Charlotte Maria Tucker, the English author, who wrote under the pseudonym A.L.O.E (a Lady of England), was the daughter of Henry St George Tucker (1771-1851), a distinguished official of the British East India Company. From 1852 till her death she wrote many stories for children, most of them allegories with an obvious moral, and devoted the proceeds to charity. In 1875 she left England for India to engage in missionary work, and died at Amritsar on the 2nd of December 1893.
This was such a good book and reminded me of just why A.L.O.E. is my favorite author. Her stories are captivating and full of rich truths, and this book was no exception. I was holding my breath a couple times, afraid of how a couple situations would go. I think I enjoyed this book even more than The Shepherd of Bethlehem. In a way, this one is a Daniel retelling, and I loved seeing the parallels of the lectures by Mr. Eardley on Daniel and the events of the story. I loved some of the characters, tolerated then grew to like others, and despised several. And I got so excited when I realized who a certain Mr. Maxwell was! I can't wait to continue reading the series, and revisit the last two books and some of the characters from the first two books. And since I've now read the earlier books of the series, the last ones should make more sense than the first time I read them.
Beautiful book! The writing was fantastic, so vivid and beautiful! Wonderfully inspiring, and a lovely story of God's protection, love, and care for His "children of light".
Reading for the Lamplighter summer reading program. So happy for the program because I am finally getting to my Lamplighter books that I tend to skip because of family read alouds and book clubs. This book is great because we just finished going over the kings at church and now we are studying the prophecies of the 9 nations surrounding Isreal in the book of Isaiah...krb 6/12/18
