LINDA SOLE also writes under the names of Anne Herries, Emma Quincey, Lynn Granville and one as Juliana Linden.

Linda was born in Swindon. Her family moved to Ely in Cambridgeshire when she was nine, and Linda attended the local school but left at fifteen to work as a hairdresser in her father's business. She was married at eighteen and ran her own hairdressing business for some years before moving to Cambridge, although Linda has now moved to somewhere a bit quieter in Cambridgeshire. She started writing in 1976, combining this with helping her husband to run his antique shop.

Writing as Anne Herries, Linda won the 2004 RNA Romance Award and the Betty Neels Trophy. She lives in Cambridgeshire. After many happy years of taking their holidays in Spain she and her husband, now have a second home in Norfolk. Being only a short drive, they can visit for a few days at a time, which suits their busy lifestyle these days. They are only just across the road from the sea, and can see it from their windows. At home and at the sea they enjoy watching the wildlife and have many visitors to their gardens, particularly squirrels. Anne loves watching their antics and spoils both them and her birds shamelessly. She also loves to see the flocks of geese and other birds flying in over the sea during the autumn, to winter in the milder climes of this country. Anne loves to write about the beauty of nature and sometimes puts a little into her books, though they are mostly about love and romance. She writes for her own enjoyment and to give pleasure to her readers.

Danger, mystery and suspense are key factors in this tale of hard-won love. Arabella does not want to remarry but she still goes to London near the end of the season to make her Aunt happy. She has her own reasons for going. Her friend needs her help and she knows she can find some in London. Instead, she discovers her Aunt's life is threatened. She will need to take a leap of faith and trust her surprising attraction for Charles and hope that he can protect her and those she loves most. Maybe she can find some happiness too.

A very smooth and intrigueing read.

Charles is ok as a hero but needs serious counseling about his anger issues. I like Belle as the heroine as she shoes a lot of strengths. Ralph is another degenerate pervert with a gambling problem , 99.9% of the ton males have this problem. I haven't figured out why they can't seem to win and lose everything but someone has to offset the losers. No one seems to get punished for all their crimes etc. poison dates, pushing down stairs and kidnapping seems ok. Just give him 10 thousand pounds and he sails off to America happy as a pig in a slop bucket. Of course Welch seems to have the capability of invisibility since he wanders about everywhere he wants and the full regiment of men are patrolling the grounds. Lady Arabella proudly carries her pistol around so she is not afraid of anything except when confronted by Welch in the garden. She doesn't have pistol so he slaps her upside head and good guys arrive and shoot the invisible man. This is about the time when I skimmed through the rest of book and let Charles and Belle do their thing. Average reading with complicated plots galore.

Lady Arabella Marshall is a widow. She has become used to being a widow and quite likes the fact that she doesn't have to depend on someone else for anything. She cares for those around her and in particular wonders about May, a young girl who turned up, in shock and amnesiac several months earlier.

Charles Hunter is looking for his sister, Sarah, who was kidnapped many months ago and has disappeared since. He and some friends dealt with some of the kidnappers and they're still looking for evidence to lead them to the others.

Arabella finds herself betrayed and pursued and may have to make some choices that may not sit as well as she would like, but then again maybe they will.

It's fairly predictable but I liked it.

I found the second of the Hellfire Mysteries to have gone back into standard Regency themes.... wealthy widow, dastardly villain who wants to abduct and force her into a marriage and a hero who doesn't feel he deserves to woo his friend's widow. Nothing really new here and again the writing is quite tame.

Very stilted and awkward narrative style. Felt amateurish. Pretty predictable characters. I ended up skimming the second half of the book just to see what happened with the suspense/mystery. And it's only because I was semi-interested in the story that the book earned more than one star.
