A ver... partiendo por las cosas buenas, para no parecer tan ogra. Se nota que la autora investigó mucho, y que se leyó minuciosamente los libros; tiene secciones muy creativas (como lo que Moody ve con su ojo especial); y los datos "sabías qué?" son muy entretenidos.
Sin embargo, hubo varias cosas que me molestaron harto y que hicieron que terminara poniéndole una estrella no más:
1- No puede llamar manual definitivo, si es que sólo llega hasta el 5 libro
2- Y menos, no decir cosas por miedo a los spoilers; especialmente porqeu eso hizo que hubiera párrafos que parecían verdaderos acertijos
3- Como no sabe lo que pasa después, pasan 2 cosas: una, que trata de adivinar lo que viene, sin achuntarle, y dos, que eso hace que pase por alto cosas que después se hacen muy importantes
4- Hay cosas que simplemente no son correctas, además de haber varias malas traducciones
5- Hay unas secciones que eran realmente tediosas, como los puntos que les daban o quitaban a los alumnos (sí, todas y cada una de las veces en las que a alguien el quitaron o le dieron puntos!)
Ahora, me imagino que el libro era sólo una manera de tratar de explotar el fenómeno de Harry Potter, y me imagino que eso debe haberlo logrado...

My daughter and I are Harry Potter geeks. My daughter is currently obsessed with the series (and I love that she is such a fan of books when there are so many tv shows and movies and cartoons to entice her away from the library) and she gets frustrated when talking to her dad because he simply can't follow the storylines and characters. I looked around for cliff notes and this book looked the most promising so I checked it out for my husband. Very informative and helps explain the links between books and the interconnectedness of the characters. He may not be a fan but after reading this book he can at least have a Harry Potter conversation with our daughter and understand what she is talking about. I wish it had been updated to include info on the final books but for 1-5 it was an excellent summary and review.

Good guide to read during the summer of 2005 when I was waiting for Half Blood Prince to be published. Organization of this book easily lends itself to review. There are four main sections: the characters, Hogwarts, the wizarding world, and the muggle reader's world. The last section wasn't particularly interesting to me because it focuses on the books versus the movies, touring England to see HP sites, and web resources. Nothing terribly new there. However, reading the first three sections did refresh my memory about the HP world, and made a few connections that I had not previously given much thought to.
Would I read this guide again? Probably not. Might I scan it in the future? Possibly. This book does have a number of useful lists in it. For example, Boyle has a list of the prisoners in Azkaban during each of the five years Harry is at Hogwarts. She has a list of every one of Professor Trelawney's predictions. There's a list of different wizards who have received the Order of Merlin. These pieces make for interesting reading when I like to look at Harry's world from a different perspective.

Foi uma leitura agradavel, nada como reler os livros originais mas para quem não o quer/pode fazer todos os anos é uma forma única de rever esta brilhante saga.
Este livro atua quase como um resumo de tudo o que se passa nos 7 volumes do harry potter com a adição de notas, dúvidas e exclarecimentos que a autora decide fazer, relacionados com os diferentes acontecimentos da saga.
Penso que quem não conhece os livros originais não iria gostar deste livro e que se iria sentir "desfraldado" por assim dizer, uma vez que acontecem imensos spoilers ao longo das explicaçoes que a autora dá no final de cada capitulo.
Gostei da parte final sobre os personagens e lugares deste mundo, penso que está muito bem concebido =D

Yo lo leí de pequeña, y me encantaba. Era casi mi biblia porque iba con éste libro a todos lados: de viaje, en el coche, a la playa, al colegio, a reuniones familiares tediosas... y era como tener los secretos del Mundo Mágico entre las manos. Aún sigo teniendole muchísimo cariño aunque la cubierta esté pegada con fixo. Lo único malo es que no llega al final de la saga y no hicieron una continuación.

Not a completely comprehensive guide but has a few small insights into the origins of some of J K Rowlings' ideas. Not something I would buy, especially since the story has since evolved.

I received this book for my 8th birthday and I absolutely demolished it (literally. 10 year old me was sticky-taping the pages back to the spine). It was a great guide of the nitty-gritty of books 1-5 (including information like which classroom Divination was held in), and has a lot of interesting facts scattered throughout. The final part of the book even included ideas on how to throw the best Harry-Potter themed party. I read and reread this book throughout my childhood and studied it like a textbook. A must for the obsessed fan (as long as you don't mind that it's missing info on the final two books).

Guía muy completa del universo Harry Potter, lamentablemente solo hasta la publicación del quinto libro, ya que aun no se habían publicado los últimos dos libros de la serie. El libro se divide en cuatro partes, la primera dedicada a los personajes, la segunda a Hogwarts, donde se describen el castillo, las casas y las asignaturas. la tercera parte dedicada al mundo mágico habla del Quidditch, dentro y fuera de Hogwarts y otras locaciones del mundo mágico. Finalmente, la cuarta parte se dedica a las diferencias entre las películas y los libros y otros temas menores.

Loved the background on people like Lupin, McGonagall, Slughorn the Malfoys. I’m also a word nerd so appreciate the etymology and care that went into names. The wand section was a bit dry and would benefit from inclusion of relevant wizards for reference. A good read for any serious HP fam who wants a bit more. Note that it doesn’t coalesce into a story, it’s more tidbits of background that came from her old notes.

No puedo poner más estrellas porque esta guía está basada solo en los cinco primeros libros de la saga. Sin embargo, la autora ha investigado muchísimo para completar la historia hasta ese punto. Consultó no solo los libros, si no también toda la información que J.K. Rowling había dado hasta el momento por distintos medios, como chats o foros.
Está escrito en cuatro partes:
1. Personajes: historia y datos sobre las familias, personal de hogwarts -actual y antiguo-, brujas y magos varios, muggles. Debo decir que la información es bastante completa pero falta el desarrollo que J.K. Rowling hizo en los últimos dos libros.
2. Hogwarts: la historia del colegio de magia y hechicería, cómo llegar, los terrenos y el castillo, fantasmas, las cuatro casas, asignaturas, etc.
3. El mundo mágico: datos sobre quidditch, los callejones Diagon y Knockturn, Hogsmeade, el Ministerio de Magia, el Hospital San Mungo, criaturas y seres mágicos, lenguaje mágico, etc.
4. El mundo del lector muggle: aquí nos encontramos con algunos datos sobre las diferencias entre los libros y las películas, sitios web basados en el mundo de Harry Potter y una sección que te ayuda a planear una fiesta "harrypottense".
Como he dicho, no está actualizada y, al no saber el final, la autora pronostica erróneamente lo que va a venir después y ciertamente no le acierta. Sin embargo y teniendo en cuenta lo dicho anteriormente, es una buena guía.

El libro llegó a mi gracias a que mi sobrina me lo prestó (una total y graduada Potterhead). Siempre he dicho que Harry Potter me gusta muchísimo y me considero algo cercano a un fan, pero definitivamente no llego a ser uno, ya que aunque sepa mucho, no sé lo que los Potterheads de corazón saben, y lo demostró ésta guía, que en forma de diccionario o directorio nos dan datos sobre la más mínima cosa del mundo de Harry Potter, desde los magos más famosos y poderosos, hasta la criatura más pequeña, que lectores distraídos como yo, no recordamos.
Me gustó muchísimo leerlo, tanto, que me dejó una nostalgia tal, que decidí organizar el Harry Potter Read-A-Thon para finales de mes. La autora da información a detalle sobre todo en el mundo de Harry Potter, y cuando digo todo, realmente me refiero a TODO, no se le escapa nada. El único problema es que toda la información llega sólo hasta el quinto curso porque los demás libros no se habían publicado, me hubiera gustado leer esos detalles también de los otros libros. Pero en sí, me gustó mucho, se lo recomiendo a todos los fans de ésta maravillosa saga.

Tras tenerlo meses en mi lista de libros para leer de GoodReads, ¡por fin lo encontré en la señora biblioteca!
Mis críticas no es que sean muy buenas ya que solo con el subtítulo empezamos mal. ¿Cómo puede definirse una guía de Harry Potter que solo llega hasta el quinto libro como una "guía definitiva"? Creo que ahí hay una confusión de términos bastante notoria con lo que no me extraña nada que esté descatalogada...
No digo que la autora no investigase ya que ha diferencia de la otra que reseñé en esta se nota tanto la investigación como el trabajo creativo por parte de Boyle.
Una de las múltiples pegas que le veo es que:
1. Como ya he mencionado solo llega hasta el quinto libro por lo que la enciclopedia está bastante incompleta.
2. Al tratarse de una enciclopedia, debe dejarse el temor a los spoilers de lado... ¡¡Estás tratando de recoger información, en este caso no es spoiler!!(o yo no lo considero como tal)

An absolutely excellent guide to the world of Harry Potter, this book continues the theme of what made us love Harry Potter in the first place. Those books succeeded because they built a world, and now this book is here to explain it to us in greater detail. I honestly found this a bit dense for what it was dealing with, and so it loses points. Rowling's narrative may have left gaps, but it did so knowing that we needed the story in order to enjoy the world. Just the one was not enough. Without that guiding link, this is more of a field guide, essentially a nonfiction book about a fictional world.
I'm also worried about whether all of this can be considered canon, per se, as I don't remember every little thing here being in the HP books, so that nervousness takes away from the experience of the thing. Some people do not care about this; they make their own canon and do not concern themselves with what is official, but I cannot do that. The world of Harry Potter is what it is because we mutually inhabit it, and if it loses those characteristics of mutuality then it loses part of its power.
At any rate, this is a great book for die-hard Harry Potter fans, just not quite perhaps the book I was hoping for.

3'5/5. La verdad es que es un libro que esta curradísimo y contiene muchísima información (en algunos casos demasiada). Se ve clarísimamente que la autora se ha estudiado un montón los libros. Pero tiene bastantes pegas como que este libro se publicó antes de que saliese el sexto libro de la saga, por lo que contiene información solo hasta el quinto. Esto significa que contiene informacion incompleta. Al igual que por otro lado también encontramos información confusa ya que por la intención de la autora de no hacer spoilers, algunos trozos parecen enigmas.
Lo he disfrutado porque me ha hecho recordar un montón de cosas, y volverme a sentir en el mundo de Harry Potter. He sentido como que leía/estudiaba una enciclopedia de ese mundillo. Pero contiene abundante información por lo que realmente lo he leído por encima más que detenidamente.

No está mal, pero me esperaba un libro muchísimo mejor. Aunque en la contratapa dice un montón de cosas sobre el libro, como "¡Todos los muggles que lean este libro se convertirán en aunténticos expertos de Harry Potter"! me llevé una pequeña decepción.
1- Cuando se publicó este libro sólo habían salido los libros hasta el 5, "Harry Potter y la Orden del Fénix" y si lees este libro ahora, sabés muchísimas cosas más que las que te cuentan.
Próximamente haré una reseña en mi blog y contaré más cosas sobre él.

I waited too long to read this book. Obviously, after reading the last two books, this one could do with a lot more information, and it was rather silly reading speculations when I know how the series ends. However, some of the "Did You Know?" bits were pretty cool, and it was well organized and informative, if not so darn nerdy XD

Got this as a Christmas present one year. It's pretty interesting if you're a fan of the books. Puts together a whole heap of information from the series creating character and house profiles, lists real world locations, translates some of the Britishisms. Stuff like that.

Gives a lot of information about the Harry Potter books and movies.It was sad because it was writtten in 2004,so there wasn't any info about the last two books.Sometimes it was a bit exhausting,because there were long lists about charms,punishments,articles from "Daily Prophet".But I liked it!

This book is an in depth reference guide to Harry Potter. It gives details about characters, places, and each book. It also offers insights into the often overlooked parts of the novels like food, dreams, names and more.

el mundo de harry porter es inmenso y maravilloso, que buena idea hacer una guía para nosotros con cada dato y detalle meticuloso, el libro tiene muy buena info tendría que haber otro libro que actualice este, ya que la información no incluye la de los dos últimos libros

si sos fanitico de Harry Potter como yo este libro te va a encantar, esta lleno de datos increíbles sobre este mundo tan maravilloso que creo nuestra querida Rowling . Lamentablemente los datos no están actualizados están hasta el libro/película 4, así que voy a buscar si hay un 2do tomo

Good, but Boyle should've waited until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out. But still, this book has info I wouldn't have known in a thousand years!
