I like this book. It gives the words (or compounds) in the order of the frequency they were found in Japanese newspapers. Thus, it provides a list of words to study in an order to maximize the speed of being able to read Japanese newspapers. Thus it is something of a favorite with me. What little I have used it, I have found the order to introduce me to words just beyond and where I am at in my reading ability.
