Imprisoned in a new reality where she has been ripped from the life she had meticulously planned after a fatal car accident, Valen must fight her way through shifting worlds scattered among the galaxies. Centered at the apex of political unrest and a decaying regime, Valen is sent to unearth answers on Lithaflora, a woman-ran planet riddled with seduction, magic, and tragedy. With intergalactic war building on the horizon, she must tame her desires and focus on the mission, regardless of the temptation hiding behind every dark shadow. Set in a spiraling dystopia where science fiction meets fantasy, The Chrysalis is a journey of self-discovery, dark morality, and romance. There is no rest for the wicked. But the Forever After awaits.
What the heck did I just read!! I don’t even know how to place this. Somewhat fantasy with more of a sci fi feel though I wouldn’t characterize it as such but I definitely felt like I was on a different planet, moreso of the mind… I don’t know but I’m deeply impressed with the originality and the thought provocation.
Valen has had a life altering experience, quite literally and what she endured and WHERE is mind boggling for the duration of the novel.
I’m obsessed with the premise and this idea of a limbo after death, before heaven or hell, where someone/something is in control and where you may or may not “move on” through different levels of death. I’m still mind blown just thinking this over to write about …
Dinoto manages to explain the unimaginable in a way that seems completely sensical and all absorbing. I loved exploring this alternate “end” and all the intriguing characters we meet along the way who you truly aren’t sure you can trust. All the while, she’s searching for one and slowly becoming tied to a plight, a movement of sorts.
As if I wasn’t hooked the entire time, I was shocked in the end and am now suffering the wait of book 2!!
The Chrysalis is a fantasy novel that pulls the reader into a realm of liminal reality just to bring us to a fantastical planet that has us question morality and motivation. It follows an intellectual women with seemingly clear motivations question everything about what she knows and how to return to the life she knew before… if that’s even possible! Turns at every corner! To explain too much is to give it away! A must read for 2023! Love love love, waiting for book 2!
Once you start reading you will not want to put this book down. The author keeps you guessing what will happen next as her writing draws you further into the plot. Can’t wait for the next book in this series.
