Now that Safena’s healed and no longer living a life of pain, she refuses to watch life happen around her. Woken isn't sure his newfound serenity will survive her adventures!
Born with a rare genetic condition, Safena didn’t have a single memory not marked by debilitating pain. Thankfully, her mother was strong enough to run away from an abusive Kaklan community, finding a remote planet to hide herself and her daughters. Instead of being executed because she was an expendable, useless, sick, female child, Safena got to grow up surrounded by her affectionate and caring sisters.
But then she grew into a sick, useless adult. A burden to her family.
But that life is over. The Hissa have taken all her sisters to their homeworld where they’ll be safe to pick Hissa partners and have children. Desperate for mates for their males, the Hissa are willing to pour resources into healing and caring for Safena, even though she’ll never be able to bear them children.
Safena takes her newfound health as a sign to go out and have all the experiences she’d been denied her entire life. No one’s going to stop her from exploring the universe, not even a bossy Hissa who thinks he wants her as a mate. She’s confident Woken will give up on courting her eventually. He has to because she can’t have the children every Hissa male dreams about. But if he insists on sticking by her side, then he'd better be prepared for an adventure because she’s done living a safe, quiet life.
She’s a woman reborn; there are no limits!
Teasing Woken is part of a series but can be read as a standalone novel. This sci-fi romance has an HEA and contains adult situations meant for mature audiences, adult readers only. For content/trigger warns please use the "Look Inside" feature. (2023-12-29: New cover, no new content)
This book gives us a couple of insights into Hissa culture. One is about the value of females beyond their ability to breed. This always needs addressed in these books where a species has lost all its females. So in this book we get the story of a female who adds value in other ways that are still critical to the Hissa species.
The second is about Hissa males being attracted to other Hissa males. One of the Hissa males is described,
“He’s an equal opportunity flirt,” Woken told her. “But everyone knows he won’t be upset if they turn him down. Being sexual is his way of making sure everyone knows they’re wanted or that they have someone to turn to even if they only want to be held.”
He sounds lovely and I kinda hope this guy gets his own book but it would have to break the rule of main characters being solely dedicated to each other which wouldn't be consistent with the description here. Not sure how an author would solve that problem.
Later books in a series can be really great as they paint a more complex and in depth picture of the world being described. This series is doing a great job with that.
This series of books just keeps getting better and better. I raced through this book, it moved along so fast. Did have to stop once to sleep but it was hard to stop reading! Woken and Safena were so good together and their journey was so interesting. Finding more decanted children together and Safena finding her strengths and abilities in doing so was wonderful. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
An alien romance with no humans in it is something I always enjoy. Safena lived in pain until the Hissa came and she was able to be healed. She now wants a life of adventure and Woken is determined to be her mate and protector throughout.
The author makes what I feel is a good representation of what it is like to live with chronic pain and how despite the pain the person still has to discover ways to live.
Have read all of the available books and if I’m thinking right I have the next one on preorder. All of the books are excellent- stories continue from book to book with characters intermingled. Fresh change of story line, unique characters and situations. Would be nice if you could expand the number of books in the series. Not often does a series keep my attention- usually they start out great and slowly go downhill. I truly couldn’t wait to start the next one. Please keep on going. Maybe even do one based on the puppy-Eager
Safena is a fantastic main character; her attitude and joy for her new life made her story fun. Drunk Safena is hilarious. The minari are great, and I loved Eager. The adventure is more important than the sex, and the romance is believable.
Safena a Kaklan female who was close to dieing is cured by Raleen and along with her guard Hissa Woken is granted the freedom to learn in the Ardent. Woken will do anything to help his female.
Another thrilling novel in the Hissa Warrior series. RK Munin does an awesome job of weaving exciting action, a story, and serious heat. Love, love, love the series!
What a fascinating idea. Safena had never know a day without pain and when the Hissa heal her she just wants to experience everything. Poor Woken has to scramble to keep up with her. Another great story.
