The days are growing shorter, and the shadows stretch toward the horizon. Once every two hundred years the queen chupacabra chooses this season to bring forth the next generation of her species. Very few of them remain, but the new clutch of babies born to the single queen will number in the hundreds.
In the little town of Harvest, Illinois the queen chupacabra has set up her nest in the basement of an old Victorian house. The building is quiet and dark – but far from empty. Inside, four middle-aged sisters bake cookies for the haunted house charity event to take place on the following night. They do not know about the presence of the chupacabra or suspect that she has recruited a human accomplice which may be far more dangerous than the creature herself.
It's the night before Halloween. This year, the tricks will begin a little early…

I loved how fast paced, graphic, and eerie this novella was! I honestly had never heard of a chupacabra before reading this, and it’s safe to say I was thoroughly creeped out when I learned what they were and experienced what they can do.
This was a pretty short read, you can easily finish it in one sitting, and it’s definitely one I really enjoyed! The chapters are intense, gory, and genuinely spooked me!
Perfect to add to your Halloween TBR, or to read now if you’re a weirdo like me 🙃
I really enjoyed this novella I won from a Goodreads giveaway.
Even though it's currently January, this set the perfect mood for a Halloween horror story! Complete with deep family issues, and terrible creatures. I just had to read this in one sitting and was not disappointed!
First off, I’ll state that I won this book from goodreads-but in no way does this change my opinion. This was a very fast novella, a nice quick read. What a bizarre story, refreshing. I will certainly be looking for the others in this set. The story is very quick to develop and enthralling. The character development is excellent, which is impressive because it’s so short. Excellent job to the author for creating such a dark atmosphere with a well rounded story in such few pages.
Living in New Mexico, I have heard the legend of the Chupacabra. Since the author, Roma Gray, is one of my favorites when I want a short, creepy tale, I jumped at the chance to listen to this book. And, I'm so very glad that I did!
The author has mixed the gruesomeness of a creature that devours its victims with the madness of a mind created by years of torment and abuse into a truly horrific tale. This is a short read, but one of the most horrific I have read in a while.
The narrator did a great job and added a lot to this great story. Thanks for the nightmares, Roma!
