Dead pastors. Corrupt government officials. And over 100 million dollars unaccounted for. Amaka is back in this electrifying third instalment in the Amaka Thrillers series.

A frantic phone call interrupts Amaka Mbadiwe's new life in London. A renowned pastor has been assassinated in his hotel room while one of her girls, Funke, hid naked and terrified inside a sofa. Amaka is headed back to Lagos, and to a new world of private jets, money-laundering and mega-churches.

With her trusted ally Police Inspector Ibrahim out of the country, and the hostile Inspector Musa breathing down her neck, Amaka must race against the clock to rescue Funke and untangle this twisted web of religion, power and politics.

With a punishing intensity, full of twists and turns, Unfinished Business oscillates with scandal, corruption and sleaze.

I was really pumped for this because I enjoyed reading the earlier installments unfortunately this fell a bit flat for me. By all standards, it’s a well written book. However, the slight shift in the narrative style, in this third installment is such that had it incorporate more POVs than is typical for an Amaka thriller. Ordinarily, this should make for a more engaging and entertaining story, but it didn’t really work for me.

Set in Lagos, Leye’s compelling story talks about crime, corruption, greed, church scandals and power plays in Nigeria. This book is a true depiction of “The love of money is the root of all evil”, people are literally ready to kill for money.

What I love about the book?
The plot is not predictable. I kept screaming getting to the end of the book because i was utterly shocked.
I loved the way the author portrayed Amaka and Funke’s relationship 🥹 and you will not believe who found the missing money or where it was found.

Without giving any spoilers, two characters who constantly upset me were the Brigadier and Inspector Musa. Inspector Musa was a misogynistic a**hole. He treated most of the women he came into contact with with no respect and one of my favourite parts of the book was when Amaka put him in his place
I can’t blame the Brigadier for actions, he acted out of frustration but he was still annoying.

I highly recommend this thriller and I wish more people would read this book.

Again @leyeadenle made me fall in love with Amaka, If she were to come alive, and we stumbled unto each other, I would disgrace my whole lineage with the antics I would display..
Let me jejely disgrace my family in public because of Amaka Mbadiwe.
One of my highlights for 2020 was reading Easy motion tourist and when trouble sleeps.
During my time at @rovingheights , easy motion tourist and when trouble sleeps were my top recommendations and everyone that bought the books always came back for more recommendations whilst singing the praises of this wholesome stories.

The author has a way of keeping you glued from beginning to end. Even after reading Unfinished business, I am unable to express my feelings about this book. I’m still gathering my emotions and just a little secret between us, i read this book on my trip back to Abuja and I totally forgot I was in public and let out a loud shout when I got to the end! That’s why I love fiction, it’s like a literal escape from reality..

The Human world is already a mess, so books are like this portal that transports me to a calm and peaceful world void of worries.

Mr Leye Adenle ejoor sir, please you need to do a meet and greet in Nigeria because you need to tell us what you were thinking while writing this book simply because it’s so fascinating!

Amaka is truly a super hero for all ladies.

I met Leye Adenle after his panel at Capital Crime 2023, I had been sufficiently impressed to buy this Amaka thriller. Although part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.

Amaka is living in London when she receives a frantic phone call from her friend, Funke, who asks for her urgent help. She immediately travels to Heathrow getting a flight to Lagos in order to provide assistance. Why does Funke need help & is she in danger? How will Amaka negotiate her way through the twisting plot of money laundering, corruption & the ever-present influence of mega churches?

A brilliant read & my introduction to Amaka, I will read the others in the series. An easy writing style which transported me to the heat & intrigue of Nigeria. Highly recommended.

Unfinished Business is pure adrenaline from start to finish!
Leye Adenle delivers another gritty, unfiltered look into the heart of Lagos a city where survival often comes at a heavy cost because why was everyone wanting to kill everyone

The characters are raw, real, and unforgettable. Every decision they make feels like life or death, and you can feel the tension on every page.

I loved how Adenle captured the complexity of Lagos its chaos, its beauty, and its dangers all while weaving a sharp, fast-paced crime story.

If you enjoy dark thrillers, morally gray characters, and stories that don't shy away from hard truths, Unfinished Business is definitely a must-read

Highly recommend for fans of Nigerian fiction, crime novels, and anyone looking for a fresh, gripping story!
