The Dragon Lairds #3

Kiss of a Dragon King

Rate this book
When you love someone, you’ll do anything to save them. Even if it takes a lifetime. Even if it takes a thousand years… Cormac is my mate, my love, and my king. He’s also the last pureblooded dragon in the world—and I’ve spent the past few centuries watching him slowly descend into madness. The weight of time drove him to the edge. Then a curse killed our race’s females, and the loss tipped him over it. His mind is broken, but his power remains unrivaled. It’s a deadly combination that could burn civilization to the ground. But I’m not without power of my own. Half dragon, half witch, I’ve managed to quell Cormac’s worst impulses. When he rages, I put out the fires. When he threatens to smash the world, I put him in chains. I’ve ruled from behind the throne. I’ve been ruthless when necessary. And I’ve made plenty of enemies in the process. The only way to save Cormac is to find our female—the woman destined to come between us in the best way possible. But I’ve tried that. I’ve spent endless years scouring the immortal races, and year after year I’ve come up short. Until now. At long last, I’ve scented her. And there must be some mistake. Because the female I’ve found shouldn’t exist. She’s gorgeous and willful and she smells like fire. She smells like…a dragon. Author's This is a MMF romance with sword crossing aplenty. While it stands on its own, it’s best enjoyed if you’ve read the first two books in the series.

This is the third book in The Dragon Lairds series. Each book is a standalone, but the underlying story makes more sense if they are read in order. In this book we find out how the Dragon King became lost to his fire 🔥, and what had happened to his female mate to cause that. We also find out why the female dragons have all died out, and what caused it. Hot and sexy scenes throughout, if sex is your trigger you’d best not read this book.

This short novel was very well done. It hit all the sweet spots you would look for in a spicy romance; danger, love, lots of smexy scenes mostly MM but also a few MF and MFM, and an evil plot that our main characters have to foil. I have not read the rest of the series yet but it is definitely something I will be looking into very soon. At about 200 pages I flew through this book in just a couple hours because I couldn’t set it down. If you like supernatural beings this is definitely something I would recommend!.

3.5 Mad King Stars

I think Cormac's story is my favorite so far! The ending was just amazing! The steam was in the same levels as in the previous books and I actually liked the fact that there was more details about the world.

This book was perfection! The dynamic between Cormac and his mates is intense, steamy, and sometimes even sweet. Each book has been better than the last and if you love ployam (with sword crossing) do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK!!

Centuries of secrets & deceptions revealed

I couldn’t help but sympathize with Niall. He’s managed to hold the dragon kingdom together for centuries while their King & rightful ruler Cormac was lost to madness. It was heartbreaking. The devotion he demonstrated in caring for his mate is the absolute definition of love.

Isolde had spent her entire life in hiding in the demon plane. For demon-kind, their horns are a source of tremendous pride, so to have been born hornless was a great shame. But her father Ulmak had been keeping secrets from her, secrets that are forced into the light when Niall comes to the demon king’s court and scents Isolde. To say things ‘catch fire’ would be an understatement.

I really enjoyed the dynamic created when Cormac comes out of his madness and our three lovers begin to interact. Both Isolde and Cormac are naive in so many ways, with Niall bringing them up to speed on modern times. Their sexual chemistry was delicious.

I loved the way the mates from books 1 & 2 are integrated into this story’s third act. But the ending felt rushed. These are extremely quick, easy, and spicy (oh, so spicy!) reads. But just as with the first two books I wanted more!

I never thought one of those annoying ads that TikTok throws at you that always sends you to the wrong link would become one of the best reads of the year! I took me a while to hunt the damn title down! So worth it!

MMF? Yes. Fucken. Please

This book is spicy as FUCKKKKK (and realistic in MMF threesomes) but, the plot and the story was really well written and you felt for the characters deeply. I’m a SUCKER for gay men who calls their lover “sweetheart”

Cormac: my sweet king, his intro was a littler rough but he pulled through!!!! His character development was so good. Started off as a major red flag but once you know, you know.

Niall: I just wanna wrap him up and hold him tight. His story was the most beautifully written. His angst, his passion, his hurt you FELT it. He deserves the fucken world.

Isolde: it took me a minute to understand this FMC. I might have been biased because I love the MMC’s in this book but she brought out certain traits and aspects of the story.

That book was amazing! The madness took the Dragon King and his mate have been doing horrible things in an effort to keep him alive and subdued until finding their third.
Seeing the dragons and their mates uniting to fight against the world, was so exciting. Yes, there was angst but there was also a lot of love, acceptance and steam. I love Amy's writing and world building and she definitely became one of my one-click authors.

Out of the three books in the series that I have read so far this has been the one that I enjoyed the most. I felt that there was a more substantial plot compared to the other books and there was more character growth with deeper back stories. Additionally, there was finally some overlap between characters in the first 2 books and this book which made the whole series feel more cohesive.

This was a fab finale full of suspense and steamy romance. Told in multiple POV's, this well written story moved at a good clip and had some humour to balance out the darker aspects of the plot. I really liked the characters and was thrilled to see them work their way to an HEA. I'm looking forward to what's next by this author :D

I thought this book was exciting and so steamy hot. I am happy that Cormac and Niall have finally found their mate Isolde. There were a few twists in the story, and just really closed all the loops. The chemistry between Cormac, Niall and Isolde was sizzling hot enough to burn up my Kindle, yet there were some sweet moments to. I have really enjoyed this series!.

Amy Pennza has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Isolde, Cormac, and Niall. Cormac is the King of Dragons and is slowly losing himself because he can't find his other mate. Niall is doing all he can to keep his mate safe. Isolde has lived her whole life in the tower of her home. She has been told she was cursed because she doesn't have horns like the rest of her family. Niall is doing everything to keep things going and has a meeting with King Erkaz at his castle. Isolde has decided that she will follow her father when he goes to see King Erkaz. She just wants to see what is in the world that she has been kept from. Things do not work the way she had planned. She feels eyes on her and when she turns she sees a man looking at her. Niall had been trying to get rid of a demoness when a scent comes to him that shouldn't be there. It is a scent of a female dragon. All the female dragons have died from a curse. Niall goes after the female but she runs from him. He follows her and when they get to where she lives, it is a tower. He sees the light go on in the window at the top of the tower and sees her look out. He thinks that there would be others inside so he shifts into his dragon and flies up to the window. When he gets inside, he is shocked to see Isolde standing there. It is not long after that there is a loud boom and he tells her that they need to leave. He tells her that he will explain things to her when they are safe. Niall tells her things that she finds hard to believe. He tells her that she is part dragon and part witch. She wants more answers but he won"t answer her. He has not told her about being the other mate to Cormac yet. Things happen between them and all of a sudden, Cormac is there and he hurts Niall when he tries to keep him from Isolde. Cormac takes her to the basement and tries to have his way with her but she stops him. All of a sudden, Niall is there and is telling them they have to leave since the demons are there and are attacking their home. Niall has to knock Cormac out to keep him from attacking him. Niall takes them to his home in New York. Once they are safe, Niall tells Isolde everything she needs to know along with Cormac. It is a lot for her to take in. She, Niall, and Cormac are talking when something happens to Isolde. Niall thinks it is the curse and he and Cormac don't know what to do. When she woke up, Niall asked her what happened. She tells him about the dream she had and after, he tells Cormac that they need to call Alec to find out what is going on. Niall tells her that she has a brother and that the man she thought was her father wasn't. She had been kidnapped when she was a baby. Niall makes arrangements for Alec and Bram to come and see Isolde. Isolde is introduced to her brother Bram and his mates, Fergus, and Halina. Then she is introduced to Alec and his mates Lachlan and Chloe. Alec looks over at Cormac and asked if he could start. Cormac gives Alec a nod. Alec tells Isolde there is nothing to worry about he is just going to see if he can find out why she is having the nightmares and what is going on. Alec finds what he is looking for and it is not good. He tells Isolde what is going on with her. He also tells them who was behind the curse of the female dragons and it was Niall's grandfather and Isolde's father. She now knows why every day felt the same as the day before. Her father drained her blood every night to the point of her almost dying. Halina knows how to help her and she does. Isolde wants her father's blood for what he has done to her. They come up with a plan to take out Niall's grandfather and Isolde's father for what they have done.
Will they will the battle they are going into so they can live a peaceful life?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

I can forgive Niall for what happened to Bram. Niall loves Cormac so much that he is willing to sacrifice anything for his king, his mate, and his love. Niall thinks he has already lost Cormac. He sees glimpses of him but Niall thinks he is already gone but will still will do anything and has done everything for him. Cormac is everything to Niall. When Cormac comes back to him, he will stop at nothing for his love.

Cormac is the perfect mate and heals Niall. TW - "What he did was r*pe! He might not have touched you but you did not consent!" Cormac responds perfectly to Niall's trauma and makes Niall realize there is no need to forgive him but Niall now needs to forgive himself. "Our vows are not broken. " My heart healed so much. I cried so hard. Isolde and Cormac are so innocent about the 21st century and Niall loves it. Isolde, "I watched porn." Cormac, "What is this porn?"It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me heal, it made me believe in love. It was perfectly written.

Niall won't touch Isolde without Cormac. Isolde brings Cormac out of the flames. Cormac heals Niall. All three of them are so perfect for each other. Isolde is funny and she knows what but more accurately she knows the two she wants.

I loved how the other couples (Lachlan, Alec, and Chloe And there soon-to-be Bairn (baby). Along with Bram, Fergus, and Helina) Show up in book 3. All the pieces come together and me scream at 2am with excitement. Their females are super badass and save the day This series kept me on the edge of my seat. Some things I figured out beforehand but when it did get revealed it still made me excited and scream.

I wish that the author would have shown the more kinky spice scenes. The ridding crop. Cormac saying "I want both of my mates on their knees" I was re-reading the series even though I just finished book 3. I will be moving on to book 4 but I'm not ready to move on just yet to my three favorite couples.

Slightly confused about one part (Plot hole) but maybe it will be explained later on if they show up in book 4 or need to re-read.

I really enjoyed all three of the books in this series -as they are all quick reads and do build on each other, I have to recommend that you read all three. But, if you're looking at reading this one, I think the character and relationship development in book 3 is the most complex and well written. This book truly revolves around a MM mated dragon shifter couple, one of whom happens to be the king of all dragons. They have been together for hundreds of years and have the complex dynamics and backstory to show for it. In this book, they find their fated mate female to complete their relationship. (In this world, all dragon shifters mate in MMF triads).

For such a short book, there is a well executed, detailed plot line with twists and turns, and several complex characters that you only learn more about as you keep reading. Also, there is lots of spice. Well written, creative and varied spice - MM, MF and MFM, in case any of that isn't your thing. This book also delves into power dynamics and BDSM, where the first two books only very lightly skim the surface of it.

I was excited to see all of the characters from the first two books interweave into this story, as I liked all of them (which is rare for me), and that the FMCs from these stories had a moment to really shine. The only thing that gave me pause was the speed at which our FMC relationship develops with her love interests. Obviously, I'm game for an instalove, fated mates story but I wish it had been drawn out a bit more. I would have happily read 50 more pages for it.

I would absolutely read more of this series if they were released, and wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sexy paranormal book with plot.

“I’ve never seen anything as wondrous as you.”

Let me start by saying first, whatever you do, do NOT read any reviews that discuss the plot of this book! I promise you, you do not want to know. Don’t risk any spoilers. Only seven chapters in there is a huge revelation that you want to experience when it occurs. Trust me on this.

Also, you absolutely must read the first two books before you read this one. There is way too much you won’t understand or will miss if you don’t. This series is absolutely incredible and amazing so it’s no hardship waiting to read the others first.

Specifically about this book, no spoilers or summarizing anything that happens, I just want to share a thought about the dragons. Cormac was a very undefined character in many way in prior books. They talked about him but I never got any sense about what he was really like. Niall always came across vaguely intimidating, not that we really knew much about him either. The only thing we really knew was that Cormac was completely mad and Niall was trying his best to keep him from burning the world. The truth about both is revealed within the first three chapters and by the end of chapter two I was literally crying for them both. So much heartache and anguish. Cormac in some ways was the fortunate one as due to his madness he was mostly unaware of it all but I thought my heart would literally break for Niall. I had no idea what was hidden so deep inside him.

I cannot recommend this book and the entire Dragon Lairds series enough. It’s one of the best series I’ve ever read and the characters and their stories will stay with me forever. Thank you, Amy, for this wonderful gift you shared with me. It’s been a privilege getting to be a part of this amazing world you created.

This is my third book in this series, and honestly it is the same rating for all of them so far. I know, I know... if I don't like them so much, then why to I keep reading them? Well, to be honest, I like the story, but the execution is what is lacking. There is soooo much potential in these books, that even though I am let down each time, I still keep coming back for more hoping against hope that magically the next one will fulfill my expectations.

This book was not it. A lot of the issues I had with the last book are also with this one. I went back to read my review of the last one, only to discover that it was missing, so I had to quickly re-type everything again, and hope I remembered it OK.

This one also focused too much on the relationship between the men, then seemed to add the woman in the relationship near the end. I get that she is their mate, but leaving her out of everything until the latter third (quarter?) of the book just frustrates me.
Not to mention, every other page seemed like it was the two guys having sex all over again. I have nothing against men having sex, but when that's all you are getting out of a book, it gets old.

Speaking of old, I got bored near the end of the book. After the (very quick) battle, I just quickly skimmed the pages because I just couldn't take it anymore. There is not enough depth to keep me engaged. Everything in here is missing so much background and information that could enrich everything, that all we are left with is the shallow one-note story.

I may or may not continue to the next book. (Let's be honest, I likely will and will be disappointed all over again). These are quick reads, but I definitely would not recommend them to others. There just isn't enough in there to recommend them.

Another good addition to the series!
I found this one enjoyable even though it wasn‘t my fave out of the series.

I love that the focus is very much on Cormac and Niall’s relationship since they need to build up their relationship a bit again but Isolde makes a great addition to it.
She feels ready for new beginnings after her cruel past life and feels very much welcomed and loved by her dragons.
I do found myself wondering (especially in the beginning) if Cormac just acts very sublime since he was like this in the past were he ruled as King or if he really had no connection with Isolde.
I could feel that he loves & adores Isolde in the end but still then I had this little bit of doubt in my head.
To be honest they don’t have too much alike besides that they needed to learn all about the Earth and their new advantages.
I do think that plays a big role on why I didn‘t like this one as much as the others. And in the end I really did wish that Cormac would be a bit softer maybe?? Idk. But for this age and time (which it played in) it was too much for me personally that Cormac still acted like the King from the 16th century instead of learning about how you act in this age and time.

The plot also came forward since we got a solution on why there was this curse for the female dragons which I really liked! 🐉
I‘m very much excited for the next one.

So all in all not my favorite (even though there is plenty of 🌶️) but IMO a must if you love the Dragon Lairds Series!!

Kiss of a Dragon King

Third book in the series and it answers some questions from the first two books. I like this threesome romance structure the author is doing. Each of these three characters was very distinct,

“I had one mate who spent nearly all his time locked in dragon form and another with the life experience of a medieval teenager.”

This description is also awesome,

“This is New York City, one of the few places in the world where you can get away with carrying an unconscious male over your shoulder while your female companion causes car accidents with her see-through gown.”

They are fun even as they each have so much heartbreak. There are more spicy scenes than the character development really needs (which is fine) but they still revealed a lot about each of their personalities.

The king is tens of thousands of years old (really not possible to imagine), and is an absolute dom but I was relieved he also was extremely understanding and grounded. Like this moment when the MFC is thinking through something,

“Just letting you think, lass. When a female is deciding whether she wants to gut a male or fuck him, I’ve learned it’s best not to interrupt.”

The Consort is the most heartbreaking to me and the King was so compassionate about everything he had been through,

“Your body can run away from your mind, mo chridhe, especially when your mind has nowhere else to go.”

And I just loved that the MFC from the first book takes down the super bad guy. Just an ordinary human girl with a twist.

Having enjoyed the first two books in this series I was eager to read this third book. Although it can be read as a standalone I would recommend reading the books in the order they are released, I feel you will get much more from them if you do.

This time the author has turned her attention to Cormac the dragon king, he has yet to find his other mate and for years has slowly been losing his mind despite the fact that Niall is doing all he can to keep his mate safe.

Isolde has lived her life being kept in isolation by her father but one day she decides she wants to see more of the world than she can see from the window in her tower. She follows her father when he goes to see King Erkaz but suddenly she senses that she's being watched, she turns to see a man looking at her, it's Niall who has just picked up on a scent that shouldn't be there, the scent of a female dragon! How can this be possible all the female dragons were killed by a curse?

Niall decides to go after the female but she's frightened and runs from him, but he follows and discovers where she lives, it is a tower. When he sees her looking out of the window at the top of the tower he shifts into his dragon and flies up to the window.

Niall tells her that he senses that she's part dragon and part witch, she's shocked and wants answers but he won't tell her anymore. To find out what happens you will need to download your own copy of this book, believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Niall, the male witch/dragon shifter lead, has been trying to keep Cormac, the last pure blood dragon shifter and other male lead, alive since he’s been losing his sanity for centuries. Isolde, the female lead, has been locked away by her father, the demon king’s physician, because she has no horns and her father fears other demons will kill her.

Frustrated with the never ending boredom of her life, Isolde ventures to court to see the prince. Niall spots her knows her immediately as their mate, chasing her and spiriting her away. As they unravel her history, a dark tale emerges, but her presence being Cormac to full sanity for the first time in centuries.

This story is tri POV, well written and edited, and a raunchy paranormal erotic romance. There is a huge amount of MM interaction, given Cormac and Niall’s relationship was established before the story commenced, which is sexy, fun, and totally appropriate. Isolde’s engagement with both male characters separately and together adds another element. The author states that she’s trying for erotica with plot - I believe she’s succeeded. This is super hot but still has an interesting detailed story with character relationship development in and around the sex.

Truths Revealed

Sooooo, since a lot of this story is about revealing truths, here’s mine. I had a really hard time getting past the first few chapters of this book. Not because they were badly written chapters, quite the opposite. The intense emotions- hate, love, guilt, desire, lust, despair – were so intense that I was totally wrecked and had to put the book down for a couple of days to gather myself.
Pennza has continued to reveal more of the worlds she created in her first book and the machinations within them. This story centres on Niall, Cormac and Isolde. Dragons Niall and Cormac are gorgeous, dominant alphas and Isolde is a smart, strong woman who grows into her confidence and strength as the story progresses.
And, of course, there is a lot of hot, steamy sex.
There are cameos from triads from previous books (if you haven’t read them, you really should get them on your reading list). I loved that Chloe (from book one) a tiny, pregnant, female human was able to accomplish what a “thunder” of alpha dragons could not.
The book is not a cliff hanger per se as Niall, Cormac and Isolde have their HEA, but the ending leaves the story line open for the next “chapter” in this series. Can’t wait!!

Finding Their Missing Mate . . .

Cormac is a dragon King, the last pure-blooded dragon in the world, who has been deteriorating. He has been losing his mind over the centuries being without the female mate they need to become complete. Niall has done whatever he can to help his mate and protect him. But all their dragon females had been cursed to die, and Cormac has little hope they will ever find another.

Isolde has been kept isolated from everyone, living by herself in a tower. Desiring to see what she has been missing in the world, she follows her father one day. But she senses someone looking at her. Niall was stunned at the scent of a living female dragon nearby when they had all supposedly died. He approached her, but she panicked and escaped from him. He found her tower, shifted and flew up to her. He tells her some of her story, that she is a dragon Halfling, part dragon and part witch. He told her that her father, Ulmak was not her real father but had stolen her from her mother and fathers. Will she come with him to meet Cormac? Will the three of them become the mates they are intended to be? Or will Ulmak somehow keep her from them?

My gut feeling told me that just because this book CAN be read as a stand alone doesn’t mean that I should read this as a stand alone. So I one klicked the first two books in this series and binged them before dove in to this one. And let me tell you, it is so worth it, because I’m curious as a mofo and I can’t stand answers without questions.. So if your like me, start from the beginning, you won’t be sorry.

Ok, so this book gave me all the feels, my heart broke so many times for this trio as I simultaneously got my heart glued back together again with so much laughter and love from the characters that I cried all the same. Nothing in this book is predictable, I could not even anticipate the humor because it took me by surprise every time. And I don’t have to tell you that every woman needs 2 dragon mates… They are all the fire 🔥. This book is brilliant and delivers everything from heartbreak, steamy nsfw scenes, hate, laughter and forever love.

READ IT. (Start with the first book, you won’t be sorry)

This is the first book that I've read from this author and I'm so glad that I found her! I believe that this is the 3rd book in the series it reads as a standalone book. It has steamy scenes (MF, MM, MFM) but it also has heart. The thing I liked the most was seeing/feeling the depth of the relationship of Niall and Cormac based on their long history together. If I had any critique it is that the book was too short (lol). I realise due to the nature of the "mating bond" the relationship between Isolde and the men developed rapidly. However I found it still a bit too fast, considering the big upheaval of her life as she knew it. It would have been also nice to see her building a relationship with her new found brother... all this to say that I really got invested in the different characters and would like to see more :D. I look forward to reading other books by this author. If you like an easy read, past paced paranormal RV, then you will like this book.
