Joyce is a TSA Agent, a job she hates with a boss she hates because he is always making her work over time when she’s already put in a full days work. Joyce is 49 years old has been on her own since she was a teenager when her parents were killed in a car accident in bad weather. As far as she knew she had no other family, but she had a dead beat boyfriend who was always borrowing money or something that he never paid back. He lets himself into her house& eats her food. He won’t work a steady job. He works long enough to make enough to make the rent to pay his parents for letting him stay in the basement. One day Joyce come home & this strange girl is in her house that says she is her cousin, but she is just a young girl. How can she be her cousin. She said their mother’s were sisters. Joyce said how could that be, your mother had to be old & you are a lot younger than me. She said she was adopted. This isn’t adding up. McKenna said her mother fell & hit her head & has amnesia & needs someone to stay with her , but she can’t because she has to go to school. She needs her to come back with her & stay with her. Sammy tried to force Joyce to go stay with her because he sees a possibility to make some money. Joyce gets really mad &tells him to get his clothes & things he has there & get out!! She helps him pack & sends him on his way. McKenna gets ready to leave & Joyce changes her mind about going. What is going on? What are they going to do? Are they really cousins? Is this a scam?

I received this ARC for free & I am giving my review for free in my own words.

A good start to a new series. Joyce seems to be a rut. She is in a thankless job working for TSA. Her boss never gives her a raise, yet consistently gives her extra shifts. Her boyfriend Sammy seems to be draining her emotionally and financially. When an unknown cousin shows up on Joyce’s doorstep needing help, maybe it is a break Joyce needs

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion

Joyce is a TSA agent and for her it’s just a way to kill time and earn some money. Her boyfriend, Sammy is a moocher that can’t hold down a job. One night she gets a visit from a cousin she knew nothing about. And so the adventure begins. Wonderful start to the series and it looks like this is going to be a really good one. But, that is what you would expect from Grace Meyers, I love her books!

No Looking Back

This was a sad story. Poor Joyce, it was just sad she let her man friend use her for so long. McKenna found her, and they were cousins. Her mother was a sister. to Joyce’s mother. More to come next episode.

It’s been a while since I’ve read any of these series books that usually have about 6 in the box set. Most often these have 3 women and all are struggling with something. For some reason, I decided to start this new series by Grace Meyers. Taking a chance has me a bit between the “I wish I chose a different series” and “I wonder what will happen next” ideas.

This series has Joyce, a TSA agent, dealing with a boss who refuses to give her a raise but gives one often to the young guys she works with and she has a deadbeat boyfriend. There’s her best work friend, Estelle, who seems to have a good head on her shoulders and unafraid to make Joyce upset. And midway through Book 1 readers learn about Joyce’s teenage cousin, McKenna, who’s concerned about her mom, who apparently is Joyce’s aunt, and they have never met before.

Not quite sure what’s more fishy, not even knowing who your family is? Or that a teenager shows up at someone’s home saying her mother needs help, yet the teen left her mother home alone for hours at a time? Granted, McKenna’s a teenager and likely didn’t think this all through very well, but it just sounds suspicious.

Another thing is that McKenna says she’s a vegetarian, yet is okay with eggs for breakfast? Vegetarians don’t eat eggs. This is the second book I’ve read recently that suggested vegetarians eat eggs. While this story had a lot of valid things about multi-level marketing (or MLMs), a few statements I disagree with, it doesn’t have any validity to the diet mentioned and its limitations. Vegetarians don’t eat anything except plant-based; eggs are not vegetarian!

Otherwise, I enjoy the idea that Joyce lied to her overbearing boss to take a well-deserved week off and is willing to go with McKenna to see how she can help her aunt. I look forward to read where this story is going in future additions to this series. I give Book 1 here 3 out of 5 tiaras because of the reasons mentioned above.
