Some like it rough…

Hollywood photographer, Terry Patterson, loves his job. But when it comes to romance, there is none – at least not anymore. Ever since producer, Phil Watts, abruptly left for a high-paying job in Toronto, Terry’s been determined to move on with his life. After all, they’d barely begun their relationship when everything got derailed. Just because he’s still in love with Phil after three years, shouldn’t it be time for him to finally let go?

Phil has learned the hard way that work and career is one thing, having someone by your side to love and cherish is another. The producing gig in Toronto left him cold and lonely, but a fateful meeting one night at a bar was a game-changer. Now that’s he’s back in town, Phil is ready to take the knowledge he gained while being trained as a lifestyle Master, and is determined to claim his boy.

Something about Phil seems different when Terry reluctantly gives into his pleas for them to meet. Terry isn’t sure whether to believe Phil’s promises that this time Terry’s heart will be safe, but he can’t deny the intensity of the chemistry they still share. When Phil reveals all, Terry is shocked, yet curious. As they discuss whether or not Terry is willing to try a relationship as a sub to Phil’s Dom, one thing in particular piques Terry’s curiosity. Phil mentions role play, and there’s a fantasy Terry has always had, but been way too embarrassed to ever confess.

Will Phil agree to satisfy Terry’s darkest fantasy?

Role Play is Book 1 in the Play Series, however, there is an HEA with no cliffhanger. Phil and Terry’s exploration into their new life together will continue in Book 2, out in the summer of 2016.

Warning: This story is intended for a mature audience and contains explicit content between consenting adults. There is also rough, fantasy role play that might be upsetting to some readers.

This novella is approximately 31,200 words and 85 pages with no additional content.

This is my first time reading the book by this author. I was in a mood for a good BDSM story after finishing Aftercare and this was unfortunately a disappointment. It was very short but it would not bother me if I liked the MCs. I have a hard time believing that two men after being separated for 3 years meet again, and after they suddenly confess mutual love and one of them says: "I know what the problem was - I am into BDSM and a Dominant now, and you feel like a submissive to me, lets get it on and have HEA!" that it would suddenly work out between them. Does that mean that every arrogant a$$hole out there should get into BDSM and voila! all the problems are solved?! And Terry whined so much I almost DNFed this book a couple of times! But the worst part for me was Terry's fantasy, well, not the exact fantasy but how it was executed at the end of the book. I understand that everything was consensual between them but the way it was happening and felt very real, and noncon is not my thing and that's how it read and I could not stomach it at all. I mean if the author just put Phil's name and not plain Master it would have been perfectly fine but it felt so impersonal that I hated it. Another issue I had with the end was how when Terry got hassled by some eff-ng men at the club who supposedly were distant relatives of the club owner and knowing from the middle of the book how Phil talked how secure the club was and how difficult a process it was to get in, this blatant nepotism didn't feel right like it only happened to bring some sort of conflict in the end of the story. That whole issue with Anson and his sexual harassment of Terry should have been handled differently and the way it was written here was very unsatisfactory. I didn't like much of the book and I am sorry but I do not recommend it!

I usually enjoy this author but this book didn't do it for me at all. I just couldn't buy the sudden " I love you after leaving you suddenly three years ago". ... the acceptance of a 24/7 Master sub lifestyle when you're a newbie and the way in which the Master role was depicted. No, unfortunately this just didn't work for me

What's next???? BDSM can cure cancer????

Second chance romance. BDSM FIXES a selfish, arrogant asswipe and MAKES him more attentive, caring, and understanding to his lover that he abruptly left (even had him drive him to the airport) years ago for a job promotion out of the country.

Yea, Phil shows up years later and texts Terry that he is back in town and wants to meet at the same restaurant as their first date. Phil proceeds to tell Terry that he is a changed man because he has now been trained as a "Master BDSM Dom". Doormat Terry's mind is changed as Phil starts explaining BDSM 101. Phil is jealous of any lovers that Terry has had during this period but it is ok that he himself has had sub "boys" during the same time. But Phil will call Terry "baby" instead. Phil explains that the Dom/sub protocol and a BDSM contract will require Phil be more attentive to Terry. This process will then allow Terry to slowly trust Phil again. The two then drive back to Phil's playroom to start their new relationship with the new and improved asswipe Phil.

DNF in disgust @ 34%.

If this book is any indication, I don't think this author is for me.
The progression from ex-lovers to Master and sub was immediate and unrealistic to say the least, but I could've overlooked the far-fetched premise if it wasn't for the rest. The dialogue was stilted and clinical, Phil came off as condescending and preaching and I didn't feel the connection between the MCs at all.

This is a well written book. I liked the story. I just had a problem with Phil. For him to just show back up in Terry’s life and spring bdsm on him seemed strange. It had been three years since he had dumped him so unceremoniously. Other things about him bothered me including his calling Terry baby. I couldn’t get this picture of a nerdy creep out of my mind.

Not real impressed.

The story had Terry and Phil getting back together after a three year separation, when Phil essentially dumped Terry and moved away. We're told they actually loved each other but but neither thought it was mutual and never said anything. So that was my first negative. I hate that kind of crap. Your not sure he loves you, so you run away? In the meantime, Phil has discovered he's a Dom and was trained, so now he wants a D/s relationship with Terry, since that element had existed between them before.

All this is discussed over a meal and by the end of it, they're in love again. Phil starts training Terry to be a sub. There is apparently much discussion and mild scenes but that's mostly told and not shown. Within a couple of weeks they're living together. There's a catty model that Terry has photographed, that tries to "out" Terry as a kinkster, but that storyline never really goes anywhere. There's little sex until the end. That's when, after only another week or so, they do role play in a consensual non-con scene. Seemed a little much for a new couple, but whatever.

My issue was not getting any background for the characters and little character or world building. We also get very little relationship building. Mostly some discussions of their D/s issues. No chemistry or connection existed for me. The story seemed rather pointless with no real plot. I guess there's a second book, but I still like some substance in a first part. Morticia Knight was an author I read early on getting into MM. I kind of liked them then, but I'm not liking her style as an author now.

REVIEWED FOR LOVE BYTES

Role Play is the first book in the Play series by Morticia Knight and introduces us to Terry and Phil. The beginning of the story felt like I should have known what was happening but I was missing some of the facts. Phil and Terry were a couple that split up three years ago when Phil took a job in Canada leaving Terry stunned and broken hearted. Phil has learnt a lot about himself in those three years and he’s now back to get his man. Luckily for him Terry hasn’t moved on, in fact he’s pretty much still where Phil left him, and for the life of me I couldn’t understand why he took him back so quickly.

In no time at all and with a very quick and unsubstantial conversation Phil explains he has trained as a Dom and is interested in a D/s relationship with Terry – in fact he wants to go all in with a Total Power Exchange. There just wasn’t enough discussion for me to make this work and what there was felt stilted and awkward. They were quickly declaring their love for each other, moving in together and setting up a scene that seemed way too risky for a new couple – one of which is only just being introduced to BDSM. Role Play lacked some important back story for both characters but hopefully we will learn more in book two.

M/M BDSM
Triggers: Unwanted attention from a non-lover, consensual rape scene
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

I normally love Morticia Knight books - but this seems like it was not her style.

Phil and Terry are kind of an odd couple. It is hinted that they had a great relationship; one that would have lasted them a lifetime. But, when Phil is given an amazing opportunity, he leaves Terry behind without a second thought.

Three years have passed. Terry is a successful photographer who is trying to continue on with his life, but not doing it very successfully - he's existing, but not really living. Also, he's on edge when he has to work with an "up and coming" actor, Anson who is slipper and slimy.

Phil comes back hoping to rekindle things with Terry now that he has figured out that he is a Dom. He believes that Terry is a sub, based on how their relationship roles were before and is almost desperate in his attempt to see if Terry wants to try again - can trust Phil again.

This is where I have my largest qualm with this book - Terry instantly forgives - after three years of no contact, he's just ready to jump head first again. And, while I don't believe in punishing unnecessarily, it seems that there should have been more of a developing story. Not only does Terry forgive, but he tells Phil a secret fantasy of being forced by a stranger - a role that Phil takes and runs with. Now, while this isn't super graphic, there are implications for future book story-lines and scenes.

Another aspect that seemed strange was the ending. Now, while i can see that there is going to be at least one more book, the ending to this one was so abrupt that I had to go back and make sure that I hadn't missed anything. This just wasn't the type of writing or story that I had come to expect from Knight. I am hoping that the second installation goes better.

~~I read my personal copy of this book and reviewed it for Wicked Reads ~~

Having read many D/s books, I have mixed views about the storyline, but am looking forward to reading the next installment to see how the relationship has progressed. Terry has been avoiding relationships, since the then cavalier Phil just upped and left him. It is hardly surprising that when Phil returns Terry is somewhat sceptical, yet loving him still, he tries Phil's suggested solution. Here is where I had a few hiccups. It was clear that Terry is by nature submissive, but he has to moderate his behaviour and desires a lot, and whilst Phil wasn't aggressive, he was persistent. That said, given Terry's fantasy scene, he wanted to be pushed ... And that is one of the really good things about the story, that it made me really think about just exactly what was going on ....

So, curious to get to the next in the series.

Phil buttò la testa all’indietro, ridendo.

A presto

A quick and steamy read with smoking-hot scenes and tender moments.
Although the characters were likable enough, I found something missing. Terry and Phil split up three years ago, and now Phil is back. I understand that there are lingering feelings, but I felt their reconnection was too easy. I would have liked some more background information to get a good feel for these men. Now it was like jumping right into the deep end, and for me, it was a huge jump from ex-partners to a D/s relationship. What I did like was the fact that both Terry and Phil had to learn to be in such a relationship. Most of the times the Dom is an established Dom and guides his partner into the submissive role. In this book, Phil also has to learn how to be a Dom. That is a nice change.
They have to get accustomed to their changing dynamics by talking, and trusting, each other. These talks climax into a role play where they are acting out Terry’s deepest secrets. Although I am not a stranger to reading BDSM, this is not the type of play I very much enjoy. It is very well described, though, and I had to remind myself that it was, indeed, role play. It was gripping. You can leave that to this author.
This is the first book in a series, and I am very much looking forward to reading more about Phil and Terry.

Role Play by author Morticia Knight is the first book in the Play series. I love the character connection Ms. Knight brings to her stories. The BDSM is emotional as well brings the story to the next level.
Terry is a photographer. He is really hurt when his partner leaves him. Now the man is back and a Dominate. Terry is not even sure what that means. He doesn’t want to open his heart again to the man who stomped all over it no matter how much the man wants a second chance.
Phil, learned he had been a jerk and selfish before. He took Terry for granted and never gave back in the relationship. Now he knows better. He knows himself and wants he wants. He knows Terry can be the perfect submissive he just needs to get him to trust him again.
Phil and Terry have come full circle in their relationship. Terry is very strong to go through all he has gone through and still love Phil. Phil is also strong for taking a deeper look into himself and knowing when he does wrong and admitting it.
Overall a powerful read. I cannot wait for more from this series in the future.

«Un così bravo ragazzo.»
Le sue parole erano come una soffice caramella gommosa. Liscia e dolce.

Consigliato.

I quite enjoyed this book. It sets a up a good place for a series to continue.
Terry, a photographer in Hollywood, is just going through the motions at life. Until Phil, his ex who left him abruptly a few years earlier to work in Toronto, returns begging to be heard out.
Phil did some self discovery in Toronto, finding out things about himself. Most importantly 1- he's a Dom and 2- he's still in live with Terry.
For me things start off too quickly with Terry taking Phil back and coming around to the d/s dynamic.
I enjoyed the supporting characters of Gerard, Marco and Marty. Can see them becoming a good group of friends all in the lifestyle.
I liked how attentive Phil was to Terry, wanting to care for him physically, mentally and emotionally.
The characters work well together and the author is building a good world for them to develop further in.

2.5 stars.. An okay novella. Would I recommend this, the answer would be No.. A second chance story. The angst for them both at the start, feeling and dealing with their break-up what they both felt but didn't express. At the club and what happened after at home was abruptly cut and a new chapter started I felt cheated cause I wanted to know what happened.  This includes a played rape scene. I felt sorry for Terry in this cause he had no idea what Phil and his new lifestyle would mean for him especially when he attends the the club for the first time. This story needed to be a longer book.
Terry 28 was a photographer, 3 years ago he'd loved Phil a producer when he'd left town leaving him lone. Now Phil was back and wanted Terry back. Phil nearly 40 was into Domination and submission.

Fun, but not quite the best I've read from Morticia Knight

I liked that Phil was still in love with Terry, and willing to go after what he wanted once he understood who he was. I liked that Terry had realistic questions and concerns about what it meant for them to have a D/s relationship. But I had a bit of trouble suspending my disbelief over Terry's ease at letting Phil back into his life.

I also find the fact that the bullying that Anson and crew participate in isn't a red flag to the community is a bit confusing. It was very clear that they were making things uncomfortable, and yet only Marty called them out on it.

3 stars. Wow, that was a lot kinkier than I was expecting. I knew going in that it was obviously dealing with BDSM but, damn! That was something I tell you.

While I liked Terry well enough, I didn't like Phil at all. The way he just up and left Terry without any explanation and then comes back a few years later trying to make like nothing ever happened pissed me off. Terry definitely was too soft on him but I get he still had feelings for him or whatever. Phil is a dickhead for how he handled that.

Other than that, I enjoyed this book. The writing is good and it's plenty steamy. It's nothing great or amazing but I do plan on continuing on with the series.

Beginning a BDSM lifestyle

Terry is a photographer in Hollywood and very much alone since his boyfriend from three years old left him to produce a TV show in Canada. Phil is back and asks for forgiveness and a chance to start up their relationship again, only with a twist. Phil became a Master in the BDSM lifestyle and wants Terry to agree go be his submissive. Terry still loves Phil so he agrees to give it a try and this well written book is the story of their journey into the lifestyle. It is very tastefully done with lots of love and steam. I am anxious to start the next book in the series.

True identity and sensual destinations!!!😍😍😏

Properly intense. The tension between Phil and Terry ramps you up. I don't know how anyone would react to a BDSM bomb being dropped into your reality. I mean, it would garner varied reactions, I suppose. Shock, disbelief, laughter, heat and desire...all?! Watching these two characters is a pleasure as they find their way through. It's an interesting concept. I think it works very well in this exciting and sexy story. I can't wait to read the next installment. Pain and pleasure...safety and danger...what will happen? Breathlessly waiting.😁

A second chance story that was nice but left me with a few niggles. The whole separation and subsequent reuniting felt odd – not fully explained to my satisfaction and then the BDSM angle seemed to be tossed into the mix as the magic cure-all for going on their happy way. I’m feeling like the role play should have come a little further into their renewed relationship or the selected scene should have been less intense because it didn’t feel quite right under the circumstances. Regardless, I’ll still check out the next book in the series and see where it goes.
