4/5 ⭐️

This book had me intrigued from the beginning. Alicina is a 17 year old that has a tough relationship with her 9 year old sister named Emily. One day Alicina is roaming the forest with her sister constantly on her heels when she goes into a cave and finds that it’s a magical cave. Her and her sister somehow get through the cage and when they enter the enchanted forest.

While roaming the forest the sisters get into a fight and Alicina leaves Emily behind. When she returns to get her she can’t find her and knows something bad has happened.

I really enjoyed the world Darcy created. I also loved Roald and I knew from the beginning he was a good guy. I am excited to see how the next book plays out. I want more romance in the next book and maybe some banter, but overall the book was well written.

If you’ve found your way here, thank you. This book means the world to me, and if you’re even thinking of reading it, you already have a piece of my heart.

Kingdom of Swords and Seelie is for the reader who craves a fantasy world that feels lush and lived-in. For those who want their magic tangled with politics, their romance slow-burn and full of tension, and their heroines a little messy, a little stubborn... and doing their best with the weight of a kingdom on their shoulders.

TRIGGER WARNING: loss, cancer, sisters

This book began as a series of bedtime stories for my younger siblings: tales of runaway princesses, magical creatures, and brave girls who fought for what they believed in. My sister Emily, our middle sib, was the one who loved them most. When she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she asked me to promise her one thing: that someday I’d publish a real book, with a main character based on her.

So I did.

After Emily was gone, these stories became more than just fiction. They were a way to explain to my youngest sister where she had gone, and a way for me to feel connected to the sister I missed so much.

The world of Telidore is fictional, but every line I write is a love letter to her. To her bravery, her humor, her stubbornness, her loyalty. If you fall in love with Emily in this book… you’re seeing the real girl.

We are never really gone until we've been forgotten.

A delightfully gripping read!
Man, where do I start? The deeply thought out world-building? The characters that act like real people and make you root for them, warts and all? The magic, mayhem, and rollicking story? This is a wonderful start to a series, from an author with a real grasp of her craft. By the end I was shooing my family away because I did not want to be interrupted before I could finish the heart-pounding conclusion. What a fun read!
