So I initially bought this random middle issue comic because of the fact that they ran a super cool variant cover of goofy as the Incredible Hulk in celebration of 100 years of Disney and even if it had nothing to do with the story I just had to have it. As far as the issue and series as a whole go I’d say the art style was great with quite the decently depicted action pages, except the fact that being a middle series run issue I had no idea what connectors led to the scribble man and the space warping but it still resonated and felt solid enough for me that I might see myself going back to this issue from #1 up. 3.75/5
Look, I’m 100% positive that whatever explanation this arc gives for why Amazing Spider-Man sucks will not be super satisfying, but at least it’s not off to a horrible start. I was actually intrigued by the villain, and I never would’ve guessed that Peter and MJ broke up because of something involving Mayan blood magic.
This issue does help bring things to light, so a bit of clarity. Starting ASM with Volume 6 and no prior knowledge I was a bit lost. So far from this volume the Tombstone issues early on were probably my favorite. I’m committed either way at this point to keep going. Apparently this Rabin dude is the primary reason Spiderman’s life was turned upside down in this volume. See where it goes from here…
I'm tired of this fragmented and stretched out run. I give this a rather generous 2 stars because on its own it actually tells a fairly decent story. (Despite the call back to a couple of issues published in 2008). But I really don't care what Peter did.
I'd like to see a new creative team on this book. A creative team given the freedom to write the stories they want to.
I hate JR JR's art, Parker's body is out of proportion and he draws kids like little people with big heads. Awful. Lot of people online appear to be a fan of the art but my local comic book store says everyone he speaks to complaining about the quality of art on the book so I am not alone.
This was super confusing to figure out what was happening. It got explained later but that doesn't help this issue. I don't understand the villain or why there was a one year flashback in the middle of this.
