”Captain, I get it. I don’t believe in hope either. But I do believe in luck. Trust me when I tell you that Chewbacca showing up here was the luckiest thing to happen to your colony in a long, long time.”
Chewbacca has figured out a way both his team and the Kezarat Colony might be able to finally escape no-space.
This issue was a whole lot of fun. First of all, I loved how this issue emphasised Chewbacca's importance to his team, his talents with engineering and mechanics, and just overall his badassness. Chewie is a character I think we all love and appreciate, but sometimes I feel we all forget just how brilliant he is and just think of him as Han's sidekick. This issue really reminded me just how vital Chewie is to the Rebellion and his teammates in this dire situation. He is not just strong and a good shot, he is also really sharp, a quick-thinker and clever. Anyway, Chewie is fab.
I also just really enjoy the setting of the Kezarat Colony. It's a weird little place, quite literally, in the middle of nowhere but it's a society of survivors, people who have lost all they had and decided to make a new life for themselves. They have learned to adapt and even though we don't know many people in the colony, apart from their leader, Blythe, I find myself rooting for them to get back home.
Aside from Chewie, this issue also had some cool character beats for Lando, Holdo and Luke. Holdo and Lando, having hooked up in their cell, have become a fun flirty duo and I lowkey kinda really like them. I don't ship them, and I do not think Soule is going for a romance here, but they have a fun friends-with-benefits vibe going on. It's fun to see Lando match wits with someone like he does with Holdo. Luke on the other hand is determined to get his book of Jedi texts back, as he believes that book is the key to him becoming a Jedi. He is much more mature and calm than he was in the beginning of this comic series, more Jedi-like, but he is still far from confident in himself and his abilities. I'm intrigued to see how the next few issues will deal with him, after how this issue ended. Also, speaking of Luke, that moment when he yelled Woohoo as he did a cool thing was so heartwarming because it's moments like those that reminds you that Luke is still so, so young. He has been through a lot and he is not the kid he used to be, but he still has moments of youthful excitement when doing cool stuff.
This arc has been a delight, and I'm once again left waiting eagerly for the next issue.
