This was another book that received great reviews however didn't work for me. The characters didn't draw me in and I found myself skimming through over 75% of the book with no problems keeping up with the storyline.
Good twin, Zarinah vs. evil twin, Zarah. Evil twin Zarah blackmails her sister Zarinah into going on what was supposed to be one time date with millionaire Lawson McKnight. While Zarah was out of town plotting on another potential prospect Zarinah, who Lawson thinks is Zarah fall in love with each other. Zarah returns wanting to take what she feels is her rightful place with Lawson.
My issue is that through 75% of the book, after sending flowers, showing up unannounced at Zarinah's job, meeting best friends, and one of her parents that Lawson had no clue that she wasn't who she said she was. Lawson was an millionaire who didn't have her looked into, a background check run or at the least check her social media. There were absolutely no warnings or red flags for him. A little too far fetched and unrealistic for me.
The spice was good and Lawson was an good male lead which is why I give it 2.5 stars.
Twins that swap places for a first date, a filthy rich millionaire that has kinky hobbies, wrapped in a love story, has to be the perfect recipe for a five star read right? Tay Mo'Nae stepped outside of the box with this one and I was pleasantly surprised. When Zarah approaches her sister about swapping places, Zarinah is confused. Not that they haven't swapped places before, but it just seemed unnecessary to her. What was supposed to be a one off, turned into something none of the parties involved were expecting. Once the pages started turning in this book, it was almost like watching a movie as things unfolded. "We had texted a few times beforehand, but the person behind the phone and the in person seemed completely different."
Zarinah and her sister, Zarah, were like night and day. Complete polar opposites, considering they are twins. When Zarah double books her sponsors, she asks Zarinah to help her out by pretending to be her for a first date. "Because I don't want to count out the first guy yet, but the second guy seems to have more potential." If only Zarah knew how true her words were. After being blackmailed into agreeing to help her sister out, Zarinah is off to do her sisterly duty, hoping things will go off without a hitch so she can get back to her life. That is until she lays eyes on Lawson. Her instant attraction to him makes things more difficult and helps make the tangled web she’s in that much stickier. "'I love him, Zarah. I fell in love with Lawson, and I'm going to tell him the truth,' I admitted."
Lawson McKnight was a wealthy man that had just about everything his heart desired. The exception being a woman that he wanted to start a family with. With him being a mega millionaire, finding the perfect woman was much harder than it seemed. So, to occupy his time and mind, he found himself taking up hobbies. Some traditional and some not so traditional. When he lays eyes on Zarah, or who he thinks is Zarah, he can see his dreams coming true. "From the first time I saw you, I felt something deep inside me for you. I knew you would be mine. You're the perfect woman for me. The one I prayed and asked God for every night. You light a fire inside me that has been dead for a while now. You're the first person I think about in the morning and the last one on my mind at night. I didn't think I had a possessive side, but with you, I can't help but want to claim you and show you off to everyone. Keep you tucked by my side and have you near me all day." While Lawson is planning his future with Zarah, he has not even the slightest inclination that his future wife isn't who she claims to be.
I literally was holding my breath waiting on the other shoe to drop in this book. Even though this isn't a thriller, I was anticipating on stuff getting crazy, and Tay Mo'Nae did not disappoint. I loved how multifaceted this book was, because even if you aren't into one of the specific tropes included in this book, there were multiple options to grab your attention. Lawson was as close to perfect as humanly possible, so I'm sure he'll be added to several book bae lists. Zarinah is either one of those characters you will either love or hate, there will be no in-between for her. I found myself wanting to shake her several times as the story went on. But in my opinion, those kinds of characters are what makes the book more enjoyable. Tay Mo'Nae is starting 2023 on a good foot and I can't wait until you guys are able to read this story.
Fell For The Wrong One Tay Monae Release Date: January 4, 2023 Rating: 5 ✨
This book deserves all the stars! It captured my attention from page one and did not let up until the end. The momentum from page one carries on for the duration of the book, in fact. What I enjoyed the most about this story was even though I knew things would come to a head, I could not pinpoint when it would happen. It was smooth sailing and then BAM- one thing after another. A definite domino effect.
Twin sisters, Zarinah and Zarah, couldn’t be more different. Zarah practically begged Zarinah to go on a date pretending to be her. Right away, I knew I wouldn’t like Zarah and I was right- she was extremely conniving and selfish. Zarinah, whom I referred to as, “Fake Zarah” was such a gem. A hopeless romantic and values all things love. She’s also big on intimacy and physical touch. When she went on the date with Lawson, she captured his attention in a way that Zarah would never be able to. Lawson is such a gentleman!! He’s very laid back, doesn’t care for the spotlight, in spite of being a multimillionaire and CEO of his family’s Hotel and Casino. Lawson is all the things a girl could want in a man. He described himself as a hopeless romantic also and is searching for his wife. When he asked, “You ever been loved so hard it causes your head to spin?” I was like YESSS!!!
Fake Zarah and Lawson were a match made in heaven; they would have eventually crossed paths because they were meant to be.
The book is heavy on the romance; it was whimsical and super romantic but these two were sexually intact also! Lawson had some kinks and Zarinah was with him every step of the way exploring his and her body. I was shocked but I appreciated the author stepping out of the box. It was sexy! An exclusive sex club? Toys? Sex on the balcony in Paris? Okay, Tay Monae was in her bag!!
I truly enjoyed experiencing Lawson and Zarinah as they grew very quickly to loving each other. And when the drama came, from more than a few characters, it was much appreciated and brought a good balance to the story. I liked the co-characters and both of their families because everyone could see the love. Zarinah’s friends suggested multiple times that she comes clean but the truth came out when it was supposed to. Zarah deserved all the karma and the beating that Zarinah gave her and I was silently cheering for her downfall! Fell For The Wrong One exceeded my expectations and I literally read it twice in a span of five days! I couldn’t get enough of it!!!
Girl not there being a thing such as an evil twin?!?
Listen Tay MoNae put her foot in this book! I don’t say that lightly! The drama and anticipation I felt reading this book was a lot! Don’t get me wrong the love between Zarinah and Law was real and super sweet with a touch of BDSM/kink. I was here for all of that! But how they met and one little white lie had me on edge waiting for the other shoe to drop and then to find out there was another reason Zarinah couldn’t tell the truth?! Omg! I was ready to be written in the book to whoop some ass no lie! To not spoil it I’ll say this karma is a bad bitch and she comes for everyone no matter what! Love did prevail and I’m so glad because for a moment I was unsure! Y’all should go read this book! I also wouldn’t mind if we see more stories from Law’s friends and maybe even his sister!
Zarinah and her sister are completely opposite twins. Little did she know that when her sister asked her to substitute for her for a first date with Lawson, she would have herself entangled in a love story. Lawson is a very accomplished man who is prepared for a serious situation he want to settle down . I adore the way Lawson showed Zarinah how much he genuinely care. Lawson was not playing and immediately made his intentions known. Zarinah had numerous opportunity to tell Lawson, but I suppose that built suspense was what was intended. Despite the fact that she lied, love triumphs. But Zarah needs her ass beat again.
I don't even know where to begin. Tay Mo'Nae continues to show why she is one of the brightest stars when it comes to Black Romance. Fell For the Wrong One was soooo good, I mean twins switching places and a kinky millionaire MMC is a good start for a great book. I love a romantic MMC and Lawson was down bad for Zarinah. He wasn't afraid of letting her and anyone else know it either, I mean he was sending Good Morning texts with Affirmations, THAT'S A GOOD MAN. Zarinah was such a sweetheart and even though she had me stressed out I was rooting for her. She was down just as bad over Lawson. Their connection felt so genuine, I found myself stressing out because I knew the truth would get out and mess things up, and it did but only temporarily. This book had an unexpected kink aspect that I really enjoyed. The love scenes were so sensual, the way Lawson handled Zarinah in the bedroom was *chefs kiss*. He's not necessarily a Dom but he had Dom energy and his princess fell right in line. Zarah is trash, and that's all I have to say about her. Karma won. If you are looking for a romantic, sensual book with Kink and a smidge of drama this is definitely the one for you, I'm hoping the other McKnight siblings get books, especially Aspen. I feel like she has a story and I need Tay to write it!!
Let me say this first. Tay Mo’nae is one of my automatic buy authors. If she writes it I’m gonna buy it and I’m gonna love it.
I absolutely loved this story. It follows Zarinah and Lawson. Zari is asked (basically blackmailed) by her twin sister Zarah to go on a date and be her as she goes out with another man that she feels is more promising financially. Zarinah is a hopeless romantic who has had a habit of falling in love quick. Lawson is ready to settle down and only wants to date with a purpose. Zari and Lawson have a great date night in which they both feel an overwhelming attraction to each other and it’s more than just physical. The two go on several dates and feelings start to develop but the one catch is Lawson thinks Zari is Zarah.
I found myself rooting for Zari throughout the book because it’s great to be loved on the right way. When it comes to Lawson he treated Zari as a person he wanted his forever with. He spoiled her and opened her eyes to some kinks in his lifestyle. He always assured “Zari was comfortable and made sure to tell her to let him know if she was uncomfortable with anything. He was so caring and responsive to her needs.
I disliked Zarah. She was truly one of those B’s. Karma dealt with her though. I was very intrigued by Lawson’s Siblings and their side stories. Aspen, the ice queen, and Milo’s relationship drama got me wanting more. Emery and his Vlogger “friend” Jewels seem to be a bit more but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.
This was really good. I loved Lawson so much and felt so bad for the way he was being misled. He was literally all in from the first date and I knew he would be hurt once the truth was revealed.
While I liked Zari’s character I was so upset with how long she kept up the charade. Once she knew Lawson was falling for her and she for him she should’ve came clean. Also didn’t like the way she acted as if Zarah was in the wrong when in fact it was her who was wrong she went along with it to keep her secret that should’ve already been revealed to her parents. She let this man propose to her and met his family knowing the relationship was built on a lie.
Now Zarah doesn’t get a pass either she was definitely wrong for blackmailing her sister and I don’t know how she thought it would work once she was ready to switch back. That man was so gone over Zari he would’ve know something was off.
Regardless of how they started Lawson and Zarinah were perfect for each other and I really enjoyed the journey of their love. Overall really good read, definitely kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the truth to be revealed.
This book pissed me off from the very beginning. They started out lying from page one !!! I have never in my reading life wanted the MMC to just part ways so bad. Like yeah Zarinah and him had a great connection but she lied for so long and still ended up not telling her own truth. Zarah was on good bullshit from the beginning. I was engaged in the story though.
I really enjoy the diverse characters this author write. She writes really yummy, sexy brothers and I'm here for black love.
I however feel she could benefit from better editing. There's so much repetition in the story, especially with the characters inner monologues that i became a bit much for me
This book dragged too much, this could’ve been a 200-300 page book, after 50 percent, I rushed to the end. Too long for so little to happen, we didn’t need that many outings with Zarinah and her friends and it got annoying when they kept asking her did she tell Law the truth and every time she said she gonna tell him, just for her to not even mention it when she got with him. Like I almost stopped reading. It was a silly reason for her to not mention it to him anyway, when everything went down and he found out. I just rolled my eyes because it was too predictable. You let him go all the way to proposal to not tell this man your real name. Zarinah truly annoyed me
Let me start by saying I like Tay Mo’Nae, but this book was very hard to get through. I, like a few others mentioned, found myself skipping much of the book. For a couple who was only together for a short period of time, the book took too long to tell their story. It also didn’t help that the story felt so unrealistic. Zari and her twin Zarah both got on my last nerves.
I found it difficult to like Zari bc she had full control of this situation. Telling Lawson wouldn’t mean Zara had to know especially since she’s never even met the man yet🙄. It’s annoying having this stupid lie hanging in the air it made it hard to enjoy the story. Then on top of that we find out her sister has a secret on her. No thanks
“As long as your bank account is full and gifts are given, who needs love? I love being spoiled and pampered.” - Zarah
I shook my head. My sister’s values were so screwed up. Love was always the end game for me. I wanted it all: the husband, kids, a white picket fence, and a dog. The whole nine. Whenever I expressed those feelings to my sister, she looked at me like I was crazy. Being the center of someone’s world and having a man that valued and treated me right was something I always craved. Whereas my sister was looking to be a rich trophy wife, I wanted to fall in love and actually build something real. -Zari
I want to meet and marry my soulmate. Someone who loves me unconditionally, someone who’s my best friend, who I can confide in and trust to lead. I’m not weak-minded, I don’t need a man for anything. I’m very independent, but I’m willing to submit to the right guy.” -Zari
You ever been loved so hard it causes it to make your head spin?” “That’s the kind of love I’m trying to give. I’m ready to settle down and start a family.”- Lawson
“I’m looking for a partner, an equal. My woman should trust me to lead her and trust I would never steer her wrong. I’m a provider and a giver. I love to spoil my woman. Hell, I’m not gon’ flex. I can be a clingy nigga. I want my woman’s attention as much as I can have it and want to give her mine just as much. When work stresses me out, I want to be able to come home to my girl and feel peace and serenity. Your body is your temple, and I have no problem worshipping my lady’s, showing her how true those words are. I love hard. When I’m all in, I’m all in. If I love you, I won’t be able to keep my hands off you. Not all women can handle all that properly, so I keep it tucked away until that right one comes along.”- Lawson
Again, I leaned forward with my head cocked to the side. “Tell me, Zarah, have you ever been loved like that? You ever have a man worship and kiss your smooth caramel skin until you could hardly breathe? You ever have a man willing to give you the world if you allowed him without expecting anything in return? Do you know what it feels like to have a man so infatuated with you that he can hardly keep his hands off you? Or a man that you can let your guard down and be vulnerable with, without fear?”
“When you find the right one, you lock her down and never let her go. Don’t let your fears or what anyone has to say keep you from your forever.” -Lawson’s Dad
“What your dad means is true love can withstand the toughest battles. If you two are meant to be, it’ll happen,”
“Communication is key, son. I’ve told you that your whole life. You were given a mouth for a reason, use it. Your mother and I made it this far because we communicate. It wasn’t always easy, and we tried to hide our arguments from you kids, but we got through our worst storms because we were able to talk things out and work them out no matter what it was about. If you really see yourself building a life and starting a future with Zarinah, then talk out your problems with her.”
It truly showed that time means nothing. The people you were with in the past don’t matter. When the person you’re meant to be with walks into your life, you’ll know it.
I liked this one but thought that Zariah was very immature with how long she let her deception go on for. It seemed more appropriate for someone in high school not a grown a$$ woman! Other than that I really enjoyed the book, but there were so many times when I was like, I know this woman is not keeping this thing going still. And I would shake my head, wanting to stop reading out of disbelief. Of course I couldn't though because I had to see what happening.
I enjoyed Law's family. I would love to see them get stories. Is this a series perhaps? Or does this book have spinoffs with the rest of the McKnight family? I feel like they deserved books too.
My only other issue with this one is that the whole story line with what Law had to do in order to fulfill the CEO role was just dropped. It just seemed like it was brought up time and time again and then nothing. It seemed like a glaring absence. I know that Law didn't think it was a big deal but everyone else in his life did and it just disappeared from mention once he actually met the criteria.
And lastly, the daughter's name? What was up with that? Couldn't the author think of ANY more Z names? Just seemed too close to the sister's in my opinion and it was weird considering how the relationship there ended up.
I’m a HUGE fan of instalove stories, so this was right up my alley. Zarinah and Lawson did not disappoint! While the way they met may have been unconventional (and a little messy), I’m happy everything worked out in the end for them! It was great to see a male lead being just as much of a hopeless romantic as the female lead. Even when obstacles came about, those two still found their way to one another. Honestly, they never truly drifted too far apart. It was a testament to true love prevailing.
There is one thing though. I can’t make myself really dislike the real Zarah. While she definitely lived up to her character, Zarinah should’ve put her big girl panties on sooner and talked to her parents and Law.
Now…I do have one question. Are we going to get an update on Lawson’s siblings? I feel like each one of the McKnight kids has a story to tell and I want to read em—which is saying a lot because it’s rare that I look for series. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed on that though!
All I can say is wow!! Again Tay you didn't disappoint!! This book was definitely worth the wait and a great way to start the year. This was a great sexy love story. Who knew that Zarah's twisted plot would set Zarinah up for the happiest ending. I'm just so glad that the twins had total opposite personalities and Zarinah was caring enough not to stick to her sister's evil plan. Being blackmaied into this twisted situation definitely didn't make things better. But the more time Zarinah spent with Lawson the more her love grew. It was enough to air the dirty secrets that kept her bound and later pay the consequences for her actions. Lawson was a real knight in shining armor and every woman's dream man. I'm glad that Lawson was able to look past how the start of their relationship was built on a lie and realize that everything else about Zarinah was real. In the end Zarah got what she deserved. I wasn't ready for this book to end. I loved every minute of it. I need a Lawson in my life!!!
Imagine your twin asking you to switch places with her and you meet the love of your life who happens to be a multimillionaire. That’s exactly what happened in Fell For The Wrong One. I’m so happy Zarinah decided to do one last favor for her scheming/scamming twin sister, Zarah, even though Zarah was blackmailing her. This book is what I call a perfect romance. It is super sweet, romantic, sexy, and sensual. At times I wanted to yank Zarinah through the book for continuing the lie. She was too deep in with Law and couldn’t bring herself to tell the truth. You’ll have to read and see what happens when he uncovers the truth. Lawson is now at the top of my book boyfriend list, a millionaire who’s sweet, giving, romantic, and likes to explore kinks?! Sign me up lol Fell For The Wrong One is a great read! Add it to your ever-growing TBR!
This book put me in a chokehold with the very first sentence until the very last one. But, I wanted to choke Zarinah for withholding her true identity for so long. I was tempted to fast forward my reading just to see when it would happen. Zarah and Zarinah were so different that I’m still trying to figure out exactly how Zarah thought that this switch would help her. Lawson definitely would have dumped her gold digging behind after the first date. Lawson and Zarinah’s relationship was hot, loving, fast paced and full of adventure. Being with him proved that she was definitely not broken. This book was well written, flowed well, kept my attention and the character development was awesome. Tay Mo’Nae did her thing with this one and it was well worth reading.
This book was everything. I wish Zari would have come clean a lot sooner, but I love the way her and Lawson's relationship grew and developed. They fell fast for each other, and I was here for it all. I wish she hadn't let her sister manipulate her so easily, but Karma is real and Zarah definitely got hers in the end. I love Tay Mo'Nae she never disappoints, and I can't wait to see the other siblings' stories come to life (especially Emery). The love Zari and Lawson had for each other ran deep and you could feel it as you read the story. I was rooting for Zari the whole time, praying that it all worked out for her once the truth finally came out. If you haven't read this one you definitely need to add this one to your list.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really enjoyed this book. The chemistry was felt immediately and throughout the book. I loved how intentional they were with dating. Two hopeless romantics falling in love quickly and deeply. But of course, love isn't easy and this seemingly perfect union started with a lie. At one point Zarinah was starting to get on my nerves. She mad ample opportunities to fess up but didn’t.
The spice was on point! Some scenes I’d never read in a book before. I knew Lawson was a gonna be NASTY the first time he was introduced to Scorpion. And when he took Zarinah. Yeah, opened princess up to a whole new world
I really enjoyed this Story. Lawson and Zarinah have so much chemistry from the first meeting. Zarinah is focused into switching with her twin. Lawson is looking for his lifetime partner. Zarinah really worked my very last nerve. Lawson put everything on top table from jump, and still didn't tell him the truth. Then had the nerve to get mad about him asking about his brother. Zarah was evil and money hungry, I bet she regrets picking Kobe over Lawson now. She got all the Karma she deserves. Love won in the end. I hope there will be stories about the reat of the McKnight Family. 10🌟 Tay Monae 👏🏾. Sis you did that.
Lawson was a man that knew exactly the type of woman he wanted in his life and refused to settle. Zarinah was a woman who believed in love but didn't think she would find the man to love her the way she desired. Zarah wanted a man with a big bank and would do anything to secure her lifestyle. I loved Lawson and the way his character grew and flourished. Zarinah worked every available nerve in my body. The characters were developed enough to give the readers the choice of how they perceived them. Although the story was moving and things were happening, the plot seemed to drag. I still enjoyed reading!
I enjoyed this. Lawson and Kari were meant to be. They both admitted that they tended to fall fast and hard in relationships and that’s exactly what they both did. He was patient with her and didn’t make her feel any way about it. I wish Kari would’ve opened her mouth wayyyyy before she did. Law had every right to feel how he felt. Now twin, girl you got everything you deserved. You knew what you were doing was wrong and thought it wouldn’t catch up to you now look. I’m glad things worked out how they did. I hope we get more if the McKnight siblings because there are absolutely some stories there.
I loved this book!!❤️ The plot, the characters and the text bubbles 🤣. The text bubbles were a nice effect. Made me feel like I was in the story.
The chemistry between Zari and Law was smoking hot and off the charts🔥😈💦. Their insta love was amazing to read about. They just got each other. I loved reading about Scorpion and how Zari let all her inhibitions lose for Law. They were a perfect fit in so many ways.
Zarah was a selfish spoiled gold digger!! It hard to believe they were even sisters whit how she acted. She was trash 🗑️ 😡.
Zarinah had allowed Zarah to blackmail her for too long! The only good thing that came out of the last occurrence was Zarinah meeting Lawson, except he thought she was Zarah. Lawson enjoyed his time with Zarinah because they shared the same interests. They both fell hard and fast, but Zarinah still hadn't told Lawson the truth. Eventually, Zarah came and Lawson found out before Zarinah could tell him. They had to be apart for awhile before he forgave her for misleading him. Things eventually worked out for the better and they got everything they discussed. This was an interesting and amazing read!
If ever there is a character who could walk around saying “My Man” all day it’s definitely Zarinah! Lawson definitely had no issues in showing how he felt about Zari from the their very first date! Tay really wrote such a captivating and enjoyable love story . Though the chemistry between the two was authentic and honest there is a secret that can jeopardize everything they have created together. This story definitely had me swooning, fanning myself and had me anxious as well!! What a way to kick off 2023!!
Honeyyyyy…..these two had me a little stressed. I am so happy that they were able to come back from the distrust. Zarah was literally the devil especially using such a secret to hold against her. Zari and Law really were made for each other and Law’s extra curricular activities…..vvvvvv interesting lol! I was happy he was able to open up for Zari and show her all of him. This was such a great read to start my reading goal for the year. I can’t wait to see what Tay Mo’Nae has planned for this year.
