Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
I will start by saying that there's nothing wrong with the writing. I'm really picky and this series just wasn't my thing. First, we have our MC, Carrow. She has no idea that she's magical and is thrown into the magical world unexpectedly. This is where the plot starts losing me because each book seems to have a different plot. There might be something minor tying things together, but not much. The only thing that seems to stay constant are her friends and Grey. Carrow's magic is growing and changing, yet she knows nothing about it. Until the last book, it seems like she's perfectly content to just fumble along with her magic. She never even tries to learn more about it or practice to improve it. Beatrix coming back was just weird and completely unnecessary as she doesn't contribute in any way to plot. Now let's talk about the whole cursed mates theme that was prominent through the series. I'm sorry, but that was just really dumb when writing a romance novel! I think we get about 4 scenes, through the entire series, in which they are intimate. The rest of the time they avoid each other or are only together in a working capacity. I didn't like it. I was bored with the whole relationship. Even the epilogue only gives a glimpse about a week into their future. I couldn't connect with the relationship because there wasn't one. It was just all, " We can't because the curse"! Blah blah blah. The only part I can say I enjoyed was how the plot over her magic and the cursed mates thing comes together in the end. Like I said, the series isn't bad. I just didn't really care for it. I didn't connect with Carrow or Grey's relationship and didn't care what happened. I liked her friends. They were pretty cool.
This book had an amazing plot. The writing style seemed like it was for a very young group. I feel as though my 10 year old would read this (minus the sex scenes) and love it. I almost wish jaymin eve would have written a book with this plot because I am sure it would’ve been a bigger hit for me. Also the ending was so abrupt that you are left with so many questions. I would have stopped reading but I honestly just kept hoping it would progress into a more grown up vibe. Not so much.
I really love Linsey Hall’s novels. They are full of adventure, magic, love, and the trials the characters face as they move forward on their quests. However, what started as “heat” between the love interests in the earlier stories has evolved into a full description of their sexual acts that smacks of voyeurism. I sincerely dislike having to skim pages until the sex ends so I can continue the story. Please pull back on sexual act details. Bring on the heat and tension and let the scene fade to gray and let the reader’s imagination fill in the blanks.
Very enjoyable fantasy with unique twists on popular fantasy species
Really enjoyed the character development of Carrow and the Devil. Their ability to take on challenges in spite of their fears and uncertainties was helpfully inspiring. So much of real life is like that. Love the historical elements that Linsey Hall entwines in her stories. Looking forward to reading more of her stories and getting to know her other characters.
I loved that he was so hardcore and honest. He didn't make excuses and owned up to it all. As always girls in love can be a bit annoying and whiny but still cool. The racoon, I eman come on, who isn't going to fall in love with her?!
I enjoy the authors books. A friend recommended them to me and with some limited time I dove into them. This had a slow draw to it but once i started that was it. I was most to it all! Once read the 2nd series of Persephone and Hades and am in the third. Amazing read.
This is the second series in Linsey Hall’s Shadow Guild world that I read. I read the Wolf Queen series first, which takes place after The Rebel. So many questions that I had while reading the Wolf Queen series are now answered! I enjoyed both series but I will be looking up reading order before I move on to the next set so I do not spoil anything for myself.
loved the book but an interesting event… was it magic?
About halfway through, every chapter that began with Carrow, instead of her name I would see DBSSPX instead of the name. I would open Notes on my iPad type it in and CARROW below, then open the book again, to the page and Carrow would appear. I don’t believe in magic but I thought readers might find it amusing.
The adventures and characters were full of excitement and emotions. I read these 5 books non-stop dying to find out what was going to happen next. Awesome series, loved it.
I love paranormal stories and this series is awesome. I loved the character development, Cordelia, the plots and twists. I truly enjoyed that this is the entire series
Like the story and the characters. One star reduced cuz her stories are always "No he can't find out this, can't find out that and I shouldn't this and that" it gets annoying. Sure I simply don't read multiple stories back to back. Still it's like that throughout the whole series...

Amazing stories, wonderful characters! Absolutely can not wait to read her other storylines!! Hopefully more with Grey and Carrow! It's cute to read how Brits view Americans also!
