The arrival of British detective Nigel Hawksworth adds a wonderful dynamic to the narrative. His persistence, quiet intelligence, and outsider status in the tight knit Oregon community create tension that keeps the pages turning. The chemistry between him and Danielle is subtle but engaging, layered with trust issues and mutual respect.
