Outcasts of Corin #6

The Alien's Chase

Rate this book
I know I have to chase her… but what happens when I catch her?

Neve: I was odd even before the evil aliens kidnapped me and messed with my brain. Now? I’m even more of a weirdo. I never minded being alone until I found a group of friends who accepted me and who never made me feel like an outcast, even if I had never fully told them the truth about myself. They were stolen, and I’d do anything to find them again and keep them safe, even if it means searching this entire planet. Now if I only I can shake this creepy, silent blue alien who’s been hunting me for days.

Relk: This isn’t her territory. It’s mine, and I’ve protected it longer than I can remember. The weather is cold, the food is scarce, and who cares if I’m alone? She’s got enemies following her, and I have to catch her before she causes any more problems. The easiest thing to do would be to end her myself, but some locked recesses of my mind tell me I’m not supposed to kill her… I’m supposed to protect her.

Reading minds and missing memories!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚💜💙🩷
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 😒🤩😀🙂
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Neve - she was kidnapped from her home by aliens, brought to a facility on the planet called Torin and experimented on by a race of aliens called the Kruul. All of the females she was held with ended up with some kind of ability, hers was the ability to read minds. The human women escaped their captors and ended up on a nearby planet called Corin, where they were again abducted and separated. She escaped her captors who were big red aliens and had been running from them for weeks, hiding in the forest. Though they were hot on her trail.

The Hero: Relk - he is a Drixonian outcast, though he doesn’t know it. He has lost all of his memories when the Uldani messed with his head, so he survives in the wilderness alone. He was considered an outcast or a child of nought which meant that his father deserted the Drixonian army. In order to deter males from deserting, the Drixonians punished their relatives by labeling them an outcast and shunning them. Relk doesn’t remember any of that. All he knows is that when he sees the fragile human female who has been hurt, he wants to keep her as his.

The Story: Neve and Relk form a bond from the start, even though they couldn’t understand each other. She trusts him because he saved her and has been helping her, feeding her and treating her well. He lives alone in a cave, but has a kind of pet, a small fuzzy pink monkey like animal who has a baby with her. The monkey is able to talk to all the others of her kind, and they also helped her by killing and eating the big red aliens that were chasing her.

After finding a translator updater device among a pack that the red aliens had, the two main characters could finally understand each other. Neve tells Relk that she has friends and has to find them. So, he takes her on a journey to find the city where the Drixonian’s live and are said to be mated to human females. Alien romance really does lean into the thrill of survival and discovery, balancing action with connection. Ella Maven has a great way of weaving intense journeys with rich character interactions. There is also a good bit of steamy scenes.

This setup is fantastic—Neve's resilience, Relk's lost past, and the mysterious alien creatures all make for an emotionally gripping and adventurous romance. The element of a dangerous journey really amps up the stakes, keeping things tense while strengthening their bond. And the translator device? Always a satisfying moment when communication finally clicks!

This audiobook was told in multiple perspectives, done in dual narration and was narrated by Reagan West and Gabriel Mcknight. Reagan West has a terrific voice which I like very much. She is great at showing emotions through her voice. Gabriel Mcknight has a soft voice and is great at doing different voices for different characters.

Idk what happened with this one. I don't feel like the characters connected, and there was zero chemistry. I also just couldn't get past all the typos and then just the blatant inaccuracies in the book. For example Amber's alter is not seeing the future, that's Lu. Axton is suddenly named Axel. Maybe I'm being too nit-picky here but I've absolutely LOVED every other book in all the series so this was disappointing. Everything felt rushed as well.

Neve and Relk

I really loved this one! Neve is kind of a badass survivor, desperate to live and get back to her friends. I really related to her struggle with emotions, specifically her difficulty with being able to cry *raises hand*, and I think anyone who self identifies as an empath *raises hand again* will really vibe with her! Plus adorable sentient pink alien meerkat pets that can kill your enemies! Biza and Giro have my whole heart.🥹💚

Relk’s character is my favorite- big, sweet, and broken. He has lost his memories, and is unable to speak, but he is a fierce protector of all creatures who find themselves pray. He may not remember anything from his past, but he trusts his instincts, and they all tell him to protect this human on her last leg, but with an incredible strength and will to live.

These two have been through some shit, and though they may not understand why they are drawn to each other, they trust their instincts and form a beautiful partnership and bond. This is definitely one of my favorites in the series!

(As always check trigger warnings if you need. Take care of your brain.💚)

Alien-ness:👽👽👽🔘🔘(peen is large, with suction node)
MC’s Together: 🫂🫂🫂🫂🔘(together mostly after 20%ish)
Burn: 🔥🔥🔥🔘🔘(slower burn, with one early spicy scene)
Spicy: 🌶️🌶️🔘🔘🔘 (2 full steamy scenes I think)
Sweetness:🧁🧁🧁🔘🔘(this one had good amount of sweet moments)
Angst: 😈😈😈🔘🔘 (a nice dose of angst)
Action: 💥💥💥🔘🔘 (good amount of action, with some down time)

I liked it. The hero can't talk (we find out why at the end of the book). He has never seen a human but he helps her survive. They fall in love.

SPOIELR SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

We are never told what the Uldani did to him. He doesn't remember. He has been mute since he was born so he uses sign language.

All of his friends/brothers are thrilled to see him.

He and the heroine are fated mates. I would have liked more of an epilogue.

mixed feelings

I love this author and I’ve loved this entire series. I really liked Neve and her alter was interesting. I also really liked Relk.

However, this book felt rushed. Many many typos and grammatical errors, words that should have been other words, like spell check mistakes that never got corrected. This really could have used a round with an editor but some of the mistakes were so obvious I feel like a beta reader should have caught them. Also the girls alters got mixed up in this one. We read Ambers story of not sleeping until she crashed with crazy Vinz protecting her. We read Lu having seizures and visions of the future. But in this book Neve talks about Amber being the one with visions. Again, mistakes that should have been caught somewhere in the editing process. Relks backstory with his memory loss was also kind of convoluted and could have been better thought out and written.
I’ve enjoyed this whole series and I did still enjoy this one. However I probably won’t reread this one like I will the others just because the mistakes irked me. This one was rushed and didn’t feel the same as the others. that makes me sad so I’ll probably just skip over it if I reread in the future

While I do enjoy a good alien romance, I'm giving this author a low rating simply because of the bloody typos. In fact, I've noticed them in EVERY BOOK. I read reviews on Amazon and waved them off as just exaggerations, but my word, this woman either pays a terrible editor or outright dismisses them all together. She even has sentences that don't make sense! As though writing when sleepy?

I don't know what it is...but Darling, do find a proper editor. At this point...you look like you just don't care.

An author CARES. I agree with the review that said the typos pull you out of the story. That's true. It really did, because it was all too often in your books.

Hire an editor.

Edit your books before uploading them to KDP.

Care about your readers.

Ever wondered what it would be like to copulate with one of the aliens creatures from the movie Avatar? Then these are the book for you!

I have read every single book in this series (Drixonian Warrior Series), including every book of the each offshoot, and cannot wait for the next one to come out. This book is one of those offshoots, while staying true to the Drixonians we’ve come to love. Similar to the Stolen Warrior series, only this time, it’s the human females that have the “enhancements” instead of the Drixonians. 6 human females were abducted and experimented on by the Uldani, until they stole a spaceship and eacaped Torin, crashing on her sister planet Corin. Corin was the Drix's home planet, most of which have made it back to after escaping imprisonment on Torin, and have recolonized their capital Granit with a mixture of humans and Drixonians.

Written in first person by ELLA MAVEN, THE ALIEN’S CHASE is the 6th book in the OUTCASTS OF CORIN series, and switches perspectives between Neve and her Drixonian warrior Relk.

Neve Hillshire was a human insurance underwriter from Earth before she was abducted and experimented on by the Uldani. Her "enhancements" allowed her to read people's thoughts, which came in handy with her mute lover. After she and 5 other human females stole a ship and escaped, they were separated by an attack from the Joktals. She was rescued from the Joktals by Relk. Neve is the last of her group to be found and by her Drixonian mate and reunited with her new friends.

Relk was an outcasts son of naught, the son of royalty who abandoned his post. He was born mute, never having the ability to speak or make sounds. After he was captured by the Uldani on Torin, they messed with his head, blocking out all of his memories. He had left his clan of outcasts and made a home inside a cave in a valley. He rescued a neevia named Biza, who was the matriarchal leader of the neevias (pink monkeys). The neevias kept Relk safe and protected, as well as Queen Poroa of the loris settlement of Trilia, after Relk rescued some captured loris (short humanoid cats).

After Neve fucked herself up by rolling down a cliff, Relk protected her and nurtured her back to health. The two developed a bond and fell in love. Together, Neve helped Relk unlock his lost memories. After she was well enough to travel, they headed towards Granit to rescue her friends. What they found instead was answers and a home.

This book follows the same pattern as all the others. Boy saves girl, boy has issues about his past that prevents him from “claiming” girl, girl has exact same issues, girl saves boy somehow, “Fatas” gives both boy and girl matching wrist tattoos that mark them as mates, boy and girl finally accept their feelings for each other and live happily ever after. That’s the bases for each and every book. Still, I will read it over and over again with a sense of fulfillment. With that being said, this book actually lacked the denial, which was a HUGE breath of fresh air. Neither Relk nor Neve fought being mated to each other, and welcomed each other’s presence once an attraction was established. It was a nice change for once.

First (and only) intercourse took place in chapter 10 at the 73% mark. The author dangled the cheese for so long that it molded. Don't get me wrong, the couple performed oral copulation a couple times before they "sealed the deal." But they received their loks, becoming cora-eternals long before they actually had sex (which was in chapter 9 at the 64% mark). The cora-eternal bond is activated when the female's blood is spilled, likely by an enemy, and the loks appear when said enemy is killed. Every couple so far (except for Shep and Hap in THE ALIEN’S HEALER) has gained loks from their cora-eternal mates. The romantic scenes were fire, as always. Even though Relk was a virgin with memory loss, basic instincts guided him to finding his release. It helped that Neve was somewhat experienced in the matter. Drixonians have huge cocks with little nubs at the base that latch onto the clit with a sucking motion. (Ugh, if only humans had that piece of anatomy.)

I was slightly sidelined by some dialogue at the very end of the book. The passage reads: "You healed me. And I will stick with you. He cupped my face and tilted my head back. You’d do the same for me." Here's how that translated: "You saved me, so now I OWE it to you to stay. You'd feel obligated as well." And nothing about that is romantic. In fact, that's just a divorce waiting to happen, lol.

I heavily recommend this book. (Heck, the entire series and offshoots.) This author is absolutely brilliant! They have balanced the perfect amount of action, adventure, desire and romance. There were a number of editorial errors, but they didn't detract from the story. I am still disappointed with the short length of the books, I wish they were slightly longer. They’re too quick to read! Then I’m stuck reading other crap while waiting for the next book to come out. Grrr. I will be even more disappointed when the Drixonian story comes to an end.

All I have left to say is, “She is all!“

I loved almost all of her books. They could have more details in them, and timelines are messed up, but I digress. But this one was a mess. There were so many typos, names were wrong for alters and couples. There were time jumps that didn't make sense. Suddenly weeks passed and we were just supposed to accept it? This book sped by so quickly. It was like the author was forced to do this story on a time crunch and just drank an energy drink and typed it out, and didn't care about anything wrong. Or just had someone else write it trying to copy her writing style? She just wanted it finished. Also, I'm fairly certain 2 paragraphs were switched. I don't remember exactly, but it was about the time he talked I think? But the chapter just didn't flow at all. PLUS, this plot was done before in the original story! A guy thats away from the clan, mute for some reason, rescues girl from danger, and has memory that gets fixed by hearing someone call him a drixonian. It was sloppy writing, and just not a good book. Plus, even though she can read minds, I find it dumb she was able to see his "aura" (the icy lake) before becoming mates. And he could see it too. Since when could they see their own aura? And this is just an added nitpick. But the first time they meet, he just strips her, and eats her out, and she's just like, "ok yeah sure. I'm suddenly suuuuper horny, don't care who this guy is, and don't know what he wants with me, but no worries, I don't care about letting him have this SUPER intimate moment with me." This book was just bad, And the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars, is because I managed to finish this one, and 1 stars are reserved for DNF's. Also, one more thing. The entire series has a problem with timelines. These girls were on the planet for 6 years (I think), but they came over before the uprising. But at the end of the book, Bazel (who was 5 in the first book, and the entire first series took 6 months [based off of Frankies 6 month pregnancy which she birthed on Corin after the uprising]) seemed to be a teenager. I could be wrong, but she sounded like she was more than 11. Plus they also said at the end, there were preteen children. Indicating it's been 10ish years. The entire timeline just bothers me.

I've loved this whole world of interconnected series, but this one just fell short.
I'm usually fine with quite a few typos, but if you struggle with them, be aware that there are tons. And not just misspelled words, but like autocorrect completely wrong words, some that were so bad I could not figure out what the right word should have been. Like a sentence saying "She just phone go any farther." What? What word was that supposed to be? Contextually couldn't go on would make sense, but how do you get phone out of couldn't. And there were at least a dozen instances like this that made no sense, along with tons of more typical typos.
Secondly I really feel like I missed the ending of the book. Where was the chapter that ties up all the lose ends? Completes the story .
I feel like the story had so much potential, but the author just ran out of time or inspiration. I would love to see an edited version at some point that fills in a few gaps and fixes the typos. Rilk and Neve had such a great connection and there was so much possibility with their story.

For sure there are a lot of Drix that I love because they are damaged virgin heroes. And the Outcasts of Corin are my favorite of the Drix because they are especially innocent and messed up. But this boy, Relk, he is the MOST damaged and most innocent of them all! I love him!

What I didn’t love is getting the female POV for the big moment. She is not a virgin. I don’t need her take, I want to know what Relk is thinking and feeling. So that was a bummer for me.
The other complaint… many typos. For example…

“I screamed about my orgasm” 😆 I believe that should be “I screamed out my orgasm”!
And
“They Uldani had Relk too,”
And
“But it had a large bed with plus furs,”… maybe “plush” furs?

And also having the wrong name in a conversation so it seems as if the person is asking themselves a question and answering it.

Quite a few of these types of things.

Virgin rating:
Innocence of virgin hero: 5/5
Innocence in losing it: 3/5
Build up to losing it: 3/5
Hotness of losing it: 3/5
Busted touching himself: yes
POV of losing it: female

I love the whole Drixonian universe and always looking forward to each book, but this time I was disappointed. The story and characters are good but the delivery is limping with both legs. It's as if the author was rushed and didn't have enough time to add meat to the bones of the story.
For me, there was not enough build up and as a result, not enough connection between the characters. Not enough male POV that could have provided a unique perspective on everything since he is do innocent. Not enough detailing and the first sex felt rushed, not anticipated and explosive, as usual. There could've been so many "hot and bothered but don't understand what's going on" situations, but they didn't happen and the passion feels flat.
As for the typos that everyone mentions, they usually don't bother me that much, but this time they just added to the whole "the story is rushed" feeling. I did enjoyed it somewhat but in the end felt like a kid who was expecting 4th of July fireworks and got some firecrackers instead.

This one had an intriguing setup for our final experimented and stolen female out of the group of six introduced in the first book.

🛸final experimented human
🛸emotionally blocked FMC
🛸memory blocked MMC
🛸little deadly pink companions
🛸he can’t talk but she can hear thoughts (sometimes)
🛸fated mates

Other than the mixup of abilities between two of the characters, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I’d understand the mixup if it were near the beginning, but after five books of each character having the same traits and then suddenly the sixth flips two characters abilities as well as changes a character’s name? Well, it was jarring to say the least.

Overall an intriguing alien romance series!

This was a good, quick, fun, steamy read, as usual. There were some typos, which I notice often in Ella Maven books, but not bad enough to ruin the story. However, this book did have two big mistakes in it. 1) Lu's Uldani alter power, of seeing bits of the future, was given to Amber (the heroine from Bk 2). Two times Amber's abilities are mentioned as visions of the future but that is Lu's alter. Amber's Uldani alter made it so that she had some hightened senses & only required sleep every few days or so. 2) Lu's mate, Axton (the hero from Bk 4) was called Axel in two spots near the end of this book. Those were unfortunate mistakes.

As usual, this was another great story by Ella Maven. There are a few typos, but the storyline is so good you'll forgive them.
If you like big, blue, sexy aliens that know how to treat a woman, you'll love these stories about the Drixonian Warriors. Start with The Alien's Ransom.

This is the story of Neve and Relk. Neve was one of the human women who was experimented on and altered by the evil Uldani. Relk was one of the Sons of Naught who had lost his memories and became lost in the wilds of the planet Corin for maybe a decade. Fate brings them together. A HEA is inevitable.

4 ⭐️ not my favourite in the series but still really good!

This one was about the missing Outcast Relk (H) and the last missing human woman Neve (h) - they were really cute together and Biza and Giro the little pink monkeys were the best part 🥰

– Dual pov
– Alien H/human h
– Virgin hero/non-virgin heroine
– No cliffhanger
– HEA but no epilogue :(

Bazel and Trapt's book is next (and last) and comes out this week, can't wait!

I really really liked their romance, but this one really needs an editor. So many mistakes, grammar errors, characters from other books with changed names (why?). It’s the reason why I’m only giving 3 stars.
I was ready to give max ⭐️ for the story, the new aliens we meet, Biza deserves 5 ⭐️ by herself, sweet Relk has conquered me from the start, more insight about the loris, but in all honesty this book needs to be fixed.
I will prolly read Trapt and Bazel’s story too at some point, just not right now. I need a break.

Edit! If an author doesn't want to pay a professional to edit, consider asking readers. Countless irritating grammatical or spelling errors that could have easily been avoided. But to get your own character's name wrong? What the actual?

It is truly a shame. Neve is interesting and Relk is a layered character with a disability that is so interesting and protective. Their story is different from the others and yet a bit similar. The poor editing and the rushed format just felt obvious. Like the author pushed the book out too quickly.

I was teary eyed

At the ending of this book. So touching and heart wrenching. Two beings that went through so many traumas and survived.
I appreciate the author not making them perfect after they had their enlightenment stage. Understand too well that it changes you to survive and work through the weight of trauma. But it does cure you of it permanently. You have memories and thoughts of it. Which then you have to work through

Author needs an editor

Spell check and grammar check can only go so far. The author needs a human editor to go over the book before publishing. There are too many mistakes in which one word is substituted with another word that makes no sense, such as "plus" being substituted for "plush". It really messes with the flow of the story when a reader has to stop to figure out what the author actually meant to say.

Another fun read by Ella Maven with a hot, hunky, cinnamon roll alien and a strong, intelligent, caring human female. This story had another great premise with the MMC suffering amnesia and not knowing his roots and Neve trying to find her friends. This was fast-paced and action packed with Maven's signature swoon and humour. I enjoyed the cameo of some old favourites and I like the suggestion of a second generation. I think the next book is going to be VERY interesting.

Relk might be my favorite Drixonian so far. He was patient and intuitive and resourceful. Neve was a tough cookie. The little pink critters were fun too.

Like the last couple of books in the series, this one could use some editing. While it had fewer typos and word choice issues, it had several story/continuity problems, such as pairing the wrong alter with the wrong human, and referring to Axton as Axel. Love these stories, but I'm reluctant to recommend the books because of the poor editing.

Great ending

It is truly a wonderful series with all the feels. The depth of the characters and the world building kept me turning page after page. I would have given each book, including this one, 5 stars if it wasn't for the editing issues. This one had the worst issues of the series and even got some of the characters wrong, but the story was so well written otherwise I just couldn't put it down.

Shine On

I loved it! This may be my favorite book yet. Relk was such a hunky, sweet and gentle Drixionian, locked in a mental iceberg. Until he saved the strange female Neve who slowly helped him thaw by bringing sunshine to his world. The story was so adorable and just made me love these aliens even more.

Emotional

I love that there are more sides to Corin to explore. The different climates and terrain are described in great detail. I felt all the emotion of Neve and Relk's struggle to communicate and try to understand what had happened to them. Then their feelings growing even though they didn' t understand why. I am looking forward the next adventure. More p!ease!!

A stolen warrior with no voice or memories of who he is, adorable side characters (peep his shoulder there)
A heroine who can read thoughts and who's been alone without her friends the longest and still managed to survive.

Fatas was looking out for them

I will never not love these drixonians. As long she writes them I will be here loving and reviewing.

Like the book, like the series

I really ike this series, and the characters. I look forward to the next in the series. I would have given a higher star rating, but there were so many wrong words in sentences that it was hard to read. Having to stop to figure out what word was supposed to be there disrupted the flow. But I still look forward to the next book.

Quick(ish) Review

Six books in, I know what I'm getting and that's fine with me. This is very much in line with earlier books, minor changes but the MCs are cute together. Could it have delved more into the characters and the story? Sure, but it was fine. not a standout, but not hot water trash, so there's that.
