The allies could sneak a fleet behind enemy lines and destroy the infrastructure the Overlords were using to push them to the brink of existence. As long as the allied fleet didn’t get trapped and obliterated, everything would be great.
But they got trapped and obliterated.
Now, the remains of the allied fleet are on the run, with one of the largest Overlord carrier forces ever seen in pursuit. With few allied carriers and fighters remaining, there is nowhere for them to run and nowhere to hide. When they stop, though, one thing is certain—it will be their final stand. For if the Overlord force breaks through them, there is nothing to stop it from driving all the way to Earth and the other home planets and wiping them out for good.
It's going to take a miracle to save Uplink Squadron and the rest of the fleet. A miracle… or Heaven’s Angels.
This series has had an interesting plot and developments throughout, but has a number of glaring weak spots: (1) all “good guys” think and act approximately the same, with the same sense of humor, mannerisms, and failings (even from different planets); (2) the technology/forces, tactics and strategies between the various races are basically identical, which makes no sense; and (3) the military decision making is absolutely idiotic, which, given one of the authors’ military background, is really disappointing.
The biggest grievance I have though is the narrative structure, which has gotten worse and worse over the course of the series. Maybe it’s because of getting paid by word count or maybe just laziness. Fully 80-90% of this series is dialogue between characters, which is used for everything from world building to character development. Therefore the characters are almost always saying exactly what they’re thinking, often covering the same information multiple times to different people. It’s exhausting and adds nothing to the story. Why not mix in a little imagery? Some descriptive language to set the scene in the reader’s head would go a long way.
The editing has also gotten progressively worse, from punctuation to straight up character mix-ups in a scene.
I started out enjoying the series, but it’s getting hard to live with entire pages of throwaway dialogue (even for a series that’s effectively free with Kindle Unlimited).
And now we switch from AI to bugs, on the same progression as most stories in this genre. Really expected more from professional writers than a by-the-numbers rehash of the same storyline that's been used for forty years.
Yeah I was hoping the story was going to improve but unfortunately, it didn't. It could be argued it got worse. I'm tapping out from this series now, the characters really began to lose their interestingness, uniqueness and the plot began to get ridiculous(more than it was already). A new enemy? One of the allies barely stepping up to that role despite the end of all their races being at stake? Maybe that would make sense if it was any plausible but it's not, they're not, the leader of blue party was flat and one dimensional, to the point of incredulity and when you find out the reasoning for his actions, it makes it even worse.
This series started out with a fairly interesting idea, the plot was moving fairly steadily and the characters were sort of interesting but then it lost itself, going around in circles, going forward and then progress being lost (whilst fine when done correctly, it simply wasn't).
Heaven's Angels thrusts readers into a high-stakes battle of survival as the allies' daring plan goes awry. With the remnants of the fleet on the run from an overwhelming Overlord force, the tension is relentless. The story's strength lies in its well-drawn characters, who display unwavering courage in the face of impending doom. The narrative explores themes of sacrifice and heroism, making this installment a gripping addition to the series. It's a thrilling ride that leaves readers eagerly anticipating this epic battle's resolution and humanity's fate hanging in the balance.
I like the moral implications, the humanness of the characters, the aliens, and even the AIs... I felt like I needed to reread it, though, as there are a number of confusing areas in the plot line... maybe it was just me? I'll read the next one, though... and looking forward to it!
There's something about this series that keeps pulling you along. You want to know what happens next, which thankfully is not always obvious However where the "it's ok" comment comes from, is the constant pulling the next miracle out of the hat, that is always the saving of the fleet
The story gets better with every book. I am impressed with each new variable that get written into the story. One battle after the other and more to come. I might have to say that adding a new enemy to the mix is a bit inflating? I will have to see what comes next.
Excellent continuation. With plot twists and turns that hurt my head! Leaving the overall story going in more directions. There are a few holes could be picked on but I just really like the overall package. When is the next one out.........
Wow! It doesn’t get better than this! Action, drama, sacrifice, loyalty, despair, and a lot of determination! I had a hard time trying to stop read this book! Just one more chapter… ah is 3:00 AM, guess I should go to bed! Yes! It’s that good!
Non stop action has Baker, Sophia, I find and Daiyu fight to scrap a defense for Earth and their allies again and again. I If only Baker and Sophia can get a break
Not a 5 star more than a ten, these two authors have done what most storytelling authors try to make the reader become so involved in the storytelling that you become so wrapped up with the picture word you have melted and became the storytelling
Thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. A lot of action, thought provoking topics and of course heroism like we desperately need in our reality. It’s nice to escape to a place where people know what honor is and what kind of sacrifice it takes to uphold it.
I like the humour woven through out the story which good along at a fast pace so much so that I have to check when I get to the end i have missed something very good looking forward to the next instalment
The series has gotten pretty formulaic, going from one cliff-hanger to another. Honestly, if I hadn't decided to binge read the series, I'd have abandoned it by now. Just 3 books to go, and the next couple of days look to be pretty rainy.
