Marriage Mayhem #3

The Marriage Switch

Rate this book
~ Jayce ~
I'd spent my life in the shadow of my identical twin brother. I was a nerdy introvert and Jordan was a flashy social bug. We hadn't spoken in three years, which was why I was so surprised to be invited to his wedding. Hell, I was surprised he was getting married in the first place. He loved partying way too much to ever settle down with one man.

Against my better judgment, I fly home...but man, my judgment is flawed. I somehow find myself married to a man I've never met before, a man that thinks I am my brother.

~ Joe ~
I wasn't sure I really wanted to get married, but I couldn't find a good enough reason to say no when Jordan was so insistent. I liked him, and figured I might love him after awhile. It's better than spending my life alone. Isn't it?

Once we exchanged vows, I realized that it might happen sooner than I thought. He has an intriguing spark in his eyes that I've never seen before and I want to know more. But after a wedding night I'll never forget, I realize I may not know my new husband at all.

Warning: Gay erotic romance. The material in this book contains explicit sexual content that is intended for mature audiences only. All characters involved are adults capable of consent, are over the age of eighteen, and are willing participants.

I haven't read any other books in this series, this one's plot just sounded interesting, but it reads like very badly written fan-fiction. I lost count of how many times I couldn't keep track of a scene, e.g. they'll be having sex facing each other, then they're suddenly on their hands and knees (like the author forgot what they were doing two seconds ago). Or they'll be in the middle of texting, then they're suddenly hanging up the phone. Um, what? I picture everything in my head as I read so this gave me a bit of mental whiplash and this also indicates that minimal editing took place as these issues made it through to the final draft.

fun if repetitive

About half of the story is new and worth reading, including the main characters, but the background, the people trying to derail their newly formed relationship are practically rubber stamped from the first book in this series. It’s so disappointing just how similar that portion of the storyline is to the first book: the parents borrowed money from the same mobsters, tried to wheel and deal, lie and scheme, and then went off the deep end willing to kill when everything went wrong and it was clear they were not going to get what they wanted. They were pretty much the same people as in the first book!

Very nice

Likes:
-The romantic leads respect each other and are kind to one another. They do use protection and do not normalize violence during intimacy.
-There are consent issues, but they are mostly of the making of people outside the marriage and the conversation around that appropriately protects the victims.
-The romantic leads support marriage
-HEA

Dislikes:
-Pain after intimacy is normalized and that’s really unnecessary. Joe isn’t always as careful as he should be and excuses it as passionate, but love is patient and kind and doesn’t hurt others in a selfish attempt to seek its own way (Corinthians 13). Joe’s behavior is not loving and he doesn’t get Jayce’s full verbal consent for his actions during the interaction. He lucks out because this is a fictional story and Jayce happens to not mind failing to offer full consent and being in pain after intimacy. Realistically, Joe came very close to marital rape because he wasn’t careful to get clear verbal consent from someone he hasn’t known for very long even if they are married.

Minus one star for normalizing pain after intimacy and conflating passion with a willingness to risk violating consent during marital intimacy.

-Random loose ends:
Whatever happens to Carmen? Jayce said he would move her, but their apartment has only 3 bedrooms and both spouses need a home office. There is no wrap up for her story after all the plans to protect her from immigration harassment. I didn’t take a second star because the book handles forgiveness well and the author may assume Carmen gets a HEA because Jayce talked about wanting one for her. However, the author has Jo and Jayce defend doing their own cooking and cleaning to Jordan. Then, they never actually ensure that Carmen moves to New York as previously stated. Even if she did, she has no place to live with them because all the bedrooms are spoken for and she couldn’t afford a place on her own in New York unless they paid her an exorbitant salary. Making the characters relatable because they handle their own daily chores is fine, but forgetting about Carmen, who specializes in that skill set and has no other way to make a living, is not okay. I didn’t take a star for it, but I’m not happy about it.

The romance was otherwise okay and better than average at avoiding consent violations.

The Marriage Mayhem books have been fun. Not terribly realistic. But good quick reads. Stalwart MCs who protect their innocent MC mates. And having a Fraternity brother with a private jet and a villa on Lake Como certainly doesn't hurt.
Definitely lots of fun, these stories remind me of the Harlequin books from the eighties!

A line from one of the characters seems to sum up this series of books “make stupid choices, win stupid prizes”.

So, this book is insane, but that’s exactly what I expected after the previous ones. Like, this author consistently write about things she knows nothing about, has casual violence everywhere, and believes that large cities have approximately 50 people in them. That our heroes bump into a mobster who is “wanted by interpol” in Milan, but apparently the cops can’t find him, is almost par for the course, and instead of the “marketing assistant” from book 1, now we have an engineer (PhD at 23, natch) who, uh, well, let’s just say that the author doesn’t understand what he does any better than most characters:

“Bio engineering is the application of the principles of biology and the tools of engineering to create stuff. Basically, we attempt to either mimic biological systems to create products, or to modify and control biological systems.”

Uh… those are two completely different fields, of bio-inspired design and of medical/control systems. But never mind.

What I want to say, though, is that this book has characters I might be willing to actually have a drink with and not run screaming from, and the terrible toxic family weirdos that are the bulk of books 1 and 2 are much less important in this book. I mean, yes, Jayce’s parents try to have him killed, and so on. But, like, how else could you progress a romance novel plot other than their immediate families trying to murder the main characters? (Hint: there are actually alternatives.)

I mean, I’m not 100% sure I’d have drinks with them. The one apparently is well travelled, but somehow hasn’t actually ever had gelato. Uh:

“Hey, can we get some gelato?" Wasn't that what they called the frozen desert here in Italy?”

The frozen desert. Never change, Ms Foxx.

Still, this book, while terrible, is not nearly as terrible as her other books. Or I’m just exhausted at the end of 2022. But I’ll give it 2 stars.

I had a lot of fun with the soldiers of fortune series by this author but every time I’ve tried a book from the marriage series it has been a dnf. They just aren’t on the same level. So much didn’t make sense, the whole J/Jay thing, have been dating months but didn’t notice it wasn’t him and the whole reasoning for staying married. Just didn’t work for me

Great Series..

I loved this series. ❤ All three books were great. I loved the character development 👏. I liked that each couple had they're on journey to walk but they all ended in the same place. They all got there HEA. I hope this 🙏 isn't the last book. 😕 I'd like to see if Jordan and Kato would likely end up together. It seemed like there might be a little bit of chemistry between these two.

This was book 3 in the "Marriage Mayhem" series. Jayce Cassidy works in the lab at Jake's company when he gets a text from his twin brother Jordan telling him that he is getting married and he wants him to come against his better judgement he goes. Jayce has talked to his family in 3 years he has spent his life in the shadow of his brother because he was the nerdy one who would rather read a book than attend a party like Jordan who is all about having fun and spending money. When Jordan takes off Jayce is forced to stand in a marry Joe Navarro who is Sam's older brother. Jayce's parents drug him and drag him to the alter. Joe knows something is off about his husband. While on the way to Italy on Jake's jet they have sex and Joe starts noticing little things that are different. He confronts Jayce and learns that he is Jordan's twin and that his parents drugged and forced him to marry him he thought it was a business merger but its not and Joe's father won't do business with his father. I liked both of these characters they hit it off and decide to stay married because of how Jordan signed the marriage license and Jayce signed the prenup. I didn't like Jordan and Jayce's parents they were selfish and would do anything to uphold their image. Jake and the guys learn that his fathers company is going bankrupt and he is borrowing money from mobsters. While on their honeymoon they see Jordan with Carlos Bocelli who is head of the Italian mafia. When someone takes a shot at Jayce the bodyguard was hit. Vinnie Bocelli brings them some information his grandfather didn't loan his father money he also tells him that his father put out a hit on him to collect insurance money 5 million dollars and will stop at nothing to get that money. When Jordan shows up he starts throwing his weight around until Jayce puts him in his place. Turns out Jayce is a millionaire as he has sold some patents. This was a good read turns out Jordan was pressured a lot by his parents. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Not feeling much emotion in the couple. Superficial reasons.

The older brother of one of the protagonists of the previous book, it seems that he didn't learn from what happened to his brother, he went there and did his own shit. Joe, rich, like everyone else in this series, meets twink, finds him handsome and lively, after a few months holding his hand, without love or affection, he decides to marry him. Reason? Because all his friends were getting married and he wanted to too. Jayce, the identical twin brother of Joe's groom and future husband, Jordan, takes over for his brother at the wedding when he decides he doesn't want to get married. After getting married and seXU, Joe found out about the exchange, decided to stay married and that's how they fell in love and lived happily ever after. Only not, because Jayce's parents, do what all the parents of one of the protagonists did in all the books in the series, put the crazy and rain of insanity.

This book needs revision. It suffers from the same problem as the others with excessive repetition of the name of one of the characters in the same paragraph and page. The end of the book comes and you think, I never want to see that name in front of me again. God frees me from listening.

Participation of characters from previous books. Location chip festival. Hot mobsters, bouncers bigger than tanks and hotter than sunsets and sexier than sausage on a hot dog.

It's as if the author didn't even bother making the whole twin switch believable... realistic. Or build the romance instead of mooching them together and basically announcing "and now they shall be in love". The MC first explained how removed he is from his family and doesn't like them, just to turn around and do what they said. The love interest wasn't even in love with his twin but... agreed to marry him? The whole charade was broken in a matter of hours - as in he didn't notice anything different until after they... ah, consummated the marriage. This and other incidents didn't just turned up but characterized the whole book. The internal logic of the book just generally felt out of whack - the only rule? Drama. Angst.

But you know, sometimes, you don't want to take the high path and take the time, make an effort to go shopping and cook yourself a healthy, nutritious meal sometimes, you just want fast-food, something quick and dirty... and this feels like it qualifies. Or maybe I am just not the target audience of this read.

So if you want some telenovela-worthy romance between a special, smart, shy (but not really) snowflake and another billionaire who is obviously lonely enough to just marry the guy who asks for his hand and then processes to fall for and adore the guy switched for him, you sure can give this a try.

Introvert Jayce had spent his life in the shadow of his identical twin brother Jordan who was extroverted and more into partying. They hadn't spoken to each other for the past three years and so he was surprised to get a phone call from him saying he was getting married and wanted him to be there. Against his gut feeling, he flies there but then realised it was a mistake as he finds himself married to a man who thinks he is his brother. Lawyer Joe wasn't sure he wanted to get married but had trouble finding a good enough reason to say no and just hope over time he would grow to love Jordan. After exchanging vows he realises it might happen sooner than he suspected as he has an intriguing spark in his eyes. After a wedding night he will never forget he realises he might not know his husband at all.

I enjoyed this book with the switch, the discovery and the great relationship that existed between the two men who were working together to protect each other. I loved the way that Jayce stuck to the NDA for his work until his manager told him he didn't have to anymore. I also loved the way that Joe was so proud of his very clever husband. Easy to read, feel and understand it was easy to be invested into the relationship between Jayce and Joe. This is an MM story with mature content.

Damn… this is the third in this series and I’ve loved most the books by this author I’ve read and especially this series but this one didn’t do it for me. First of all two J names in top of another name on top of a J name twin was so confusing. Jayce being the cute little nerd with money was amazing and I like him a lot… Joe on the other hand. Eh. I didn’t love his attitude towards his brother in the last book so I was kinda not into him this book from the start and it never got better.

Let me start out by saying this whole series is very insta love vibes but usually we get slipped into it a bit more or something crazy happens that brings them together and although something crazy happened here it wasn’t the same vibe? Idk. I was like “have they said I love you” no… and they don’t say it and there the issue. Joe starts calling him “love” and they decide to stay married and they tell other people they love each other but never tell each other and I feel like we skipped the entire honey moon which was when they would have fallen in love. Just feel like we skipped all the romance in favor of this wild and frankly over the top plot and shitty family dynamics.

2/5 on spice. 1/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. I almost DNFed this ugh!

Interesting story plot bad execution

Disclaimer: I never leave negative reviews unless the book is extraordinarily bad.

The concept of the novel is not bad. The characters are wafer thin e.g. at the start of the novel Jayce often called himself a geek (which is fine) but his 'geekness' armor is often used as his entire character. In earlier chapters, he justified social anxiety is due to him being a 'geek'. How boring! Been there, read that.

The writing is flat. That's it. There is no other way to describe it.

The steamy scenes were okay. Easily forgotten by the next book.

Albeit, this is the first book I have read by the author but the writing felt stale and amateurish. Best believe, I will not be returning.

Though my review may seem overly critical and I have said nothing positive about the book; the parts it does well e.g a flowing storyline are hardly worth mentioning because, for me, that is the bare minimum an author should do.

Thanks for reading.

On their way to their honeymoon destination, Jayce & Joe learn that things aren’t as they seem. Jayce was drugged and then coerced into marrying his twin brother’s fiancé. Joe learns that he married the wrong twin… or did he?

I read the first book in the series and had to suspend disbelief and I wasn’t sure I wanted to read another in the series but I loved the premise of marrying ‘the wrong twin’.

This book really could have used an (additional) editor. There were continuity errors. Characters were texting one minute and hanging up their phone the next.

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the characters and the premise but the execution could have used a bit of help.

*****
POV… multi first person

Standalone or series… book 3 in series

Hangover… no

Recommend… hmmm, maybe

Reread… maybe?

Formulaic but entertaining

I’m really enjoying this series. So far, it’s basically been the same plot for each book with a few variations. I skimmed through several sections to get to the plot with this one. I do like how there seems to be a larger story in the background that ties all the books together. Small spoiler: my biggest complaint with this one is Jayce hugs the housekeeper Carmen and asks her to move to New York to work for him. Later, during the honeymoon he asks Joe if she can work for them. Joe says yes. That’s the last time we hear about Carmen. So, I guess she didn’t move to New York.

me loving this book even though it has the lowest rating from the whole series here on GR.

So this is my first 5* book from the series. And I mean, the ridiculousness continues, now on a lower level but still present. I found the couple so swoony and loved their relationship. They were amazing.

The returning characters were also lovely though I'd love to see more romance between them.

There were some inconsistencies, I did not really understand what Jayce did for a job but I still enjoyed it to bits. There was no exagerrated female character as a villain and even the bad guy was not too much. So yay! I have to say I enjoy these crazy stories. They are fast, funny and swoony.

So it's rare I dnf so soon into a book but with so many inconsistencies in the first few chapter alone I just couldn't
Whomever proof read this needs a hard talk to...
1st example, his brother and he are texting.... texting... then all of a sudden his brother "hangs up" so the conversation ends... how do you hand up a text?
He takes all his personal belongings with him from the hotel because you don't know who might cone into the room... there's so many red flags this writer does not travel it's actually painful, at least basic stuff like flight times...
I just can't

adequate

The author needs to stop talking about anything to do with the justice system. They have zero clue how it works. Stop having lawyers say and do things that show no comprehension of law.
This book is full of internal inconsistencies along with clear lack of comprehension even at a basic level of how either science or law work. It becomes obvious on a number of occasions that the author can’t recall what was previously said.
The editing needs help, but I have seen much worse from independent authors.

When you need to see a real disfunctiontal family, with good guys win - this is your story!

When you know its time to settle down and you "settle" with what you hope will grow into love, that's a bad start and Joe might not make it out of that decision. Joe running off to be at his twins brothers wedding and that is not the only surprise. The twist and turns and the family dynamics with make you thankful for your family. Lol M M romance

This is a good example of "turn off your brain and just enjoy." It's not realistic. It's got continuity errors. It's just fun. All the bad guys are seriously bad, all the good guys are perfect, and everything works out nice and tidy. I feel like this series is a little Cinderella-style (even though both MCs were wealthy in this book). Rich MC, very villainous family that's trying to get the golden child married to the rich MC, all that.

Just finished the final book of "The Marriage" series. This series revolved around three college friends who find themselves married to three men they didn't know they needed in their lives. The stories followed the same blueprint but with different couples, I personally feel that Aja Foxx is a better writer but this could have been better executed better.

I found this so boring and almost dnf-ed it more than once, even at the 89% mark which made me sad because I did quite enjoy the first book in the series. Lots of cameos of familiar characters but, unfortunately, Jayce and Joe didn't have any chemistry that I could pick up on, the switched husbands plotline was resolved five minutes after the wedding and there are so so many editing problems in this book that it was hard for me to look past them. I think it could have been a much stronger story if it had only been half as long...

Dnf at 36%. The plot, the characters, the writing made no sense - oh, we were tricked into marrying each other, don’t know each other, but we are just going to roll with it because … reasons. Also, Joe, even before the trickery, was on board to marry a guy he didn’t love, never had sex with and didn’t really know because … reasons.

Fun twin switch

My biggest problem with this book is that here in California, it doesn't matter what name you go under, if you legally marry someone, that person is legally your spouse. No one can substitute someone for you as your substitute will become the legal spouse; and yes I know that this is fiction but still.

Otherwise, the chemistry is wonderful and the story fun.

Love and Mayhem

Marriage Mayhem was a very appropriate title for this series. All of the couples had to overcome a lot of mayhem before they found their happy ever after. It made for some very entertaining reading. I thoroughly recommend all of the books in the series. They are all five great reads.

This was sweet, but the beginning was nonsense, like they made the decision to file the marriage papers after sleeping once and make it a real marriage. Sorry, but at least in the other books, the marriage contracts had somewhat of a logical basis, but this was crazy. The hostage situation was just weird.

I wish these characters belonged to literally anyone else bc they have so much potential and then just turn into simpering messes. Also the sex scenes in all 3 of these books are just... boring. And paragraphs are just lifted from prior books and repeated in these.
