Highlander’s Heart is the entrancing third book in Called by a Highlander time travel romance series. If you like medieval adventures, tormented heroes, and Cinderella tropes, then you’ll adore Mariah Stone’s page-turning tale.
When time travel romance writer Mariah Stone isn't busy writing strong modern women falling back through time into the arms of hot Vikings, Highlanders, and pirates, she chases after her toddler and spends romantic nights on North Sea with her husband. Ian is struggling to find his place again when he returns to the Highlands after escaping captivity. Kate’s journey through time left her with amnesia. Will these damaged characters find a way to be together? The action scenes in this story are well scripted and encourage you to keep reading to find out who will win. I felt such empathy for both Kate and Ian that I was sad when she returned to her own time. You will need to read this book to find out what happens at the end. Another great read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
⚔️⚔️ONE PLEASURABLE THRILL⚔️⚔️ Fantastic! Mariah delivers with this thrilling, action packed, heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, page flipping dynamo, hooking you from the start and reeling you in for the duration, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Redefined limitations and outdated restrictions are heightened and expanded, drawing deep for every ounce of strength in a fierce surge of determination, lunging forward with such intensity and vigor, putting our characters through their paces, testing them in ways they could have never imagined. The characters, banter, interactions and charged atmosphere are realistic, complex and genuine with traits and qualities, adding depth and diversity, transforming into outstanding personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating one vivid backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Mariah, thanks for sharing this thrilling block buster with us.

Wieder ein sehr romantisches Buch um eine Liebe in längst vergangenen Zeiten. Ich habe es verschlungen und mit den beiden mitgefiebert und mitgelitten.
Wow, these books just keep getting better and better. In this story we get to see what happen to Ian Cambel, he is talked about in the first book " A Highland Captive" as is his cousin Marjorie. She gets her story in book two "Highland's Hope". Ian has been thought dead for eleven years till he shows up at his cousin's castle. He was kidnapped and sold into slavery in Baghdad. By the clan MacDougalls, who also kidnapped and raped his cousin Marjorie. Ian has had to fight other slaves for the entertainment of the Calip. It was either fight or die as each fight was to the death. He hates what he has become to live. He never wants to pick up a sword or kill anyone again. Coming home was not what he excepted his father is on his death bed the castle is in ruin and a war is going on between the King Robert Bruce and King Edward of England. He also finds an unconscious and injured young lady in the basement of the Castle. Kate Anerson is the oldest child of a widowed mother left to raise two children alone. Her mother works all the time just to put some food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. Her sister is sickly and suffers from depression. Kate never felt wanted or loved her whole life. After her mother dies, she is left to care not only for her sister but also for her nephew. While trying to find help by doing a TV cooking show In Scotland, the host take her to see a ruin of a Castle where she meets up a friend of ours from the other books, Sineg. Sineg tells her about the warrior Ian and how broken he is. There is an accident and Kate fall into the Castle ruins and passes out. When she wakes up, she looks up to see a very large and handsome man in medieval dress asking if she is OK. Poor Kate can't remember who she is or why nothing makes sense till she starts to figure out she is a really long way from home. This is such a great book, the interaction between the wounded warrior who has PTSD and an overweight woman who has never been loved or felt wanted it wonderful. How these two work together and against each other is so great. I hope you get a copy so you can find out all the twist and turns when two hurt, lonely souls met and do what they think is best not to hurt the other which turns out wrong. I really didn't want this book to end. I read it in one setting and bet you will too. I can't wait for the next book. I received and ARC from the author and want to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am voluntarily giving it.
Ian Cambel is a Scotsman who has been kidnapped and delivered into slavery in Baghdad to the evil Caliph who is determined that he killed as many men as he puts in front of him or be killed himself. So Ian is full of self-loathing for what was demanded of him. Then one day all the men in captivity were brought to the arena and made to fight until there was only one victor. What happened next shocked all that was left as well as the onlookers what seemed like an earthquake killed the guards and then almost killed Ian but did kill his friend Abaeze and he was able to escape and return to Scotland. He went to his uncle's castle and found his family and his father who was on his deathbed. Kate Anderson is a woman who has felt unloved by her mom and sister since she was a child she had to take care of herself and her little sister while their mother worked life was very hard for her and her mother they found out Mandy was diagnosed with Depression and needed to see a psychiatrist which cost more money but one day that ended and She was the one helping her sister and Jax and their restaurant they started together was about to go into bankruptcy it they didn't something quick that is why she was in Scotland in a program that was supposed to help her and her sister's restaurant all with the tv chef who was there to help her she thought only wanted to come on to her they were touring an old fallen castle together and Logan Robertson chose to keep touching her and she kept trying to keep him at bay but as she stepped inside the castle gate by some old crumbling stairs he is all over her when she steps away and falls down the crumbling staircase and hit her head, she heard someone calling and then she saw a light and she was dizzy and in and out of consciousness she thought but she saw the light and went toward it for a way out. This is really a great storyline and the characters are quite interesting. Action-adventure, time travel, love, and romance. I was given an ARC as a gift from Bookfunnel without obligations. I am providing an honest review.
This was another wonderful and exciting story written by Mariah Stone. This author puts so much heart into her stories, it shines through every word. I absolutely loved both main characters, Ian and Kate. Both have broken souls and only together can they heal, if only they would both realize it.
Kate is from the year 2020 and her life is not an easy one. Between taking care of her sister and nephew and making a go of her restaurant, as well as having grown up being told she was a burden, she feels broken inside and unlovable. While she is in Scotland, she suddenly finds herself transported in time to the 1300's and in the arms of a braw Highlander.
Ian, having been captured and a slave in Baghdad for 11 years, made to kill over and over again just to stay alive, has finally escaped and made his way home. He's a broken man inside, believing he's a beast for having killed so many men and deserves to be punished by being lonely and unloved. When he finds a lass who is hurt and has no memory, his life suddenly becomes quite interesting!
I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
HIGHLANDER’S HEART (CALLED BY A HIGHLANDER BOOK THREE)
Release Date: 10/15/20 Kindle Unlimited: [X]YES [ ]NO Stand-alone: [X]YES [ ]NO Author: Mariah Stone Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Spiciness rating: 🌶️🌶️/5 POV: Dual, third person Main Characters: Kate & Ian Genre: Time Travel Romance Tropes: tragic pasts (both MCs), cultural differences; tormented hero
Review:
When Kate travels to Scotland to participate in a Cooking Show, she couldn’t imagine she would travel through time directly to the 14th century (and lose her memory!) where she would meet the tortured warrior Ian, who had just returned from a really difficult years of slavery.
Both characters are full of past traumas and don’t believe themselves worth of love. Kate always considered herself a burden and her only purpose in life was to care for her baby sister and Ian didn’t believe he should find happiness after doing bad things in his time away. Translation: they would make some therapist rich!
Although they could be very hard-headed and frustrating, I really liked their story and I also love a time traveling book, so I was all over it!
ANOTHER GREAT READ!! Highlander's Heart by Mariah Stone is book 3 in the Called by a Highlander and what a time travel series this is. The damaged hero and heroine is my favorite trope. No one is perfect and for both to be damaged was both awesome yet is very sad as well. Well Done Mariah!! Mariah is truly a gifted writer and her story is so very original. Though in a series this book can be a standalone. This story has difficult pasts, needing to take care of everyone but yourself, sold into slavery, having to kill, a wonderful cook, not wanting to be a burden, feeling you don’t deserve happiness and yes love but can two people find love when they both had difficult past? You will have to read this book to find out. So if you are wanting an excellent time travel story I highly recommend this book.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
First, I read very little historical romance. Only a handful of authors have been able to draw me in. Ms. Stone is one of them. The addition of time travel is what initially grabbed my attention. But her writing and her characters are what has kept me reading. I have loved every one of her books. Ian and Kate's story was such an intense read. Ian returns home a broken man. Years of slavery, killing and the loss of all hope have done this. Shortly after arriving at Inverlochy, he finds Kate, injured and without her memory. Kate has struggled her entire life. This tv show is the break she needs. She doesn't realize how much this trip will change her life. Neither Kate nor Ian feel worthy of love. But together, they just might be able to heal. Getting there will not be easy. They both have responsibilities that pull at them. Ian has to defend his land and people. Kate has her sister and nephew waiting in the future. But until they can forgive themselves, they will not find their HEA. The story is full of action, heartache, romance and healing. All among the beautiful setting of the Highlands. A wonderful read! I received an early copy and this is my voluntary opinion.
Kate is in Scotland 2020 when she’s at a cast and falls and hits her head. Ian is in 1308 and at war and gets captured and sent to Baghdad to be a slave. He was there for 11 years and made to fight other slaves to stay alive. He escaped and returned to Scotland and finds Kate at the bottom of the stairs in his castle. She wakes up with amnesia and remembers nothing. Ian has her cook at the castle and little by little she starts getting her memory back. Ian has feelings for her but feels that he’s not worthy of love after all the killing he’s done. Kate remembers the abandonment she had as a child. Can they find their way together and let the past go?

This is the third book in Mariah Stone series,I have loved every one of the books, all of them are special in their own way. Ian Cambel was captured during a battle and sold into slavery. He was held in slavery for eleven years in Baghdad, sold to a caliph an made to fight other men who were made slaves as he was. Ian was called the Scot or Red Death by the people He fought to stay alive, he hated to kill the other men but he wasn't given a choice by the Caliph.Ian was fighting one day and heard loud noises of someone blown away the walls of the place he was held, and killing people. He managed to get free and after months get back to Scotland! In 2020 Inverlochy castle Scotland,Kate Anderson was taking a tour of the castle with Logan Robertson,a chef of a TV.show and he makes a pass at her,and she rejects him and falls down stairs and hits her head. When she wakes up Ian has found her in his castle lower room. This story gets very interesting because Kate doesn't remember who she is or why she is there. The secondary people in the story add a lot to the story, Ian feels like he is broken and unworthy for anyone to love him,and Kate felt no one has ever loved her and she is a burden to everyone.I loved this ebook very much, sad in places happy in other parts,I would recommend reading this book Ian deserved his story to be told. Each story just gets better and better, love Mariah writing style felt I was there with Ian and Kate! Was given this ebook as ARC for honest opinion and gave it a 5star as I enjoyed very much.
This story is Absolutely Amazing. Mariah Stone Out did herself with this one. It was so relatable that it had me relive my own past. Not saying it easy or happy like the story, but certainly worth the experience. It is hard to judge who had the harder life to overcome. Ian or Kate. Physical scars or emotional ones. Either way there is healing to be done. Kate lived a tough life. Never knowing love or acceptance. Ian had a good life till captured and sold as a slave and lived an Evil life. Yet two broken people find one another. Definitely a Unforgettable Story filled with Hope, Love, and Second Chances. MUST READ
Kate Anderson goes to Scotland to try and get help and to appear on a TV show to save her restaurant in America. The one in charge takes her to the highlands to see something of Scotland there he tries to come on to Kate who rejects his advances and falls down some step she then puts her hand on a handprint in the Stone and goes back in time. Ian Cambel has come back home after 11 yrs as a slave having been sold into slavery by the MacDougalls and taken to Baghdad on a slave ship. There he was made to fight to the death each time or be killed himself. He escaped and got back to his family and home. He hears a noise in the store room and there finds Kate who after hitting her head has concussion. Ian takes her into one of the bedrooms and gets help for her. Then after his father dies he goes to reclaim his estates and takes Kate with him. There she takes on the second role of cook. Trouble follows them in the form of English soldiers. I’m not going to spoil the rest only to say that this is another great story from Mariah. I received an ARC for an honest review which I have given
This book although part of a series can easily be read as a standalone. In this book Kate travels back to 1308 where she meets Ian. Kate has had a difficult childhood without a father and with a mother struggling to care for her children and make ends meet. Kate has been neglected and after her mother dies she has taken on the carer role for her younger sister and nephew. Ian was sold into slavery by a neighbouring clan and is believed by his clan to be dead. He has suffered a horrific life in captivity and despite ultimately getting home he is a very broken man. Lots of action, distrust, history, loyalty, cooking and romance.

I am being extremely generous giving this bland book 3 stars
I picked it up because Shane East was narrating, but honestly his performance was pretty flat. He doesn't deliver female voices well at all anymore (or at least that's what it seems like to me). And the woman narrator could not handle Scottish male accents. I was expecting an entertaining audiobook but instead listened to something that could barely hold my attention.
The story itself was bland and uninspired. It felt like a weak Outlander ripoff. No depth, no development, boring, bland, weak and flat characters, dumb plot. Absolutely nothing unique or standout worthy in this.
She is trying to escape the unwanted attentions of a man; he is a broken slave who finally makes it back home. Time travel and Scotland what more could you ask for in a book. When she travels thru time to long ago Scotland, she hits her head and loses her memory. He finds her in a cellar while looking for the good liquor. He helps her and prevents someone from throwing her out of the castle, when he leaves, he takes her with him. She slowly gets her memory back but feels she needs to go back to her time because her family needs her. Wonderful story, I am looking forward to the next one in this time travel adventure.

Again another great story by Mariah stone. The story is full of action- adventure, travel, time travel and love and romance. The storyline is strong and we meet up with some past characters and new ones. Can two people who have had hardships and hurts find each other and find peace, healing and love together? Must read to find out!
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It is a story of time travel and finding that one true love that is meant for only you. It is a lesson in forgiving and liking one’s own self, and both the main characters needed to learn this. A very enjoyable story full of emotion, action and hope. I am waiting impatiently for the next one in the series.
What a wonderful storyline, I can see why Mariah likes the character of Ian so much. Ian a proud highlander sold into slavery by a rival clan was a broken man or so he thought! Kate was a modern woman who felt she was a burden to others, even though she was stronger than she realised. Brought together by ancient magic , they find in each other a way to heal.. Mariah never fails to bring her characters to life...

This was such a good read. Ian had been sold into slavery by neighboring clan. He was forced to be a gladiator in the arena by the califate. For years. Kate was a chef, on a trip with a master chef, to boost the status of her restaurant. Getting away from the flirtatious chef, she fell and hit her head and was awakened, where? In the past. What a shock. I received this book freely and give my honest review. Recommend it.
I love time travel. I love the setting of 14th century Scotland. The reseach is excellent, the highlanders beautifully depicted and the story appeals. An all round great read, as good as the previous books in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
