The first third of the book, the pace is slow. Then the pace picks up and I was hooked, I couldn't put the book down, it was so addictive. There were parts that had me holding my breath. There's a lot going on in the book, but it all comes together seamlessly by the end. I was never sure where the author was taking us next. I was surprised by the ending.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks and the author #TJBrearton for my ARC of #HerHusbandsLies in exchange for an honest review.

I found it to be a little disappointing. The plot itself is well-written and drew me in, but I just couldn't get excited about the characters...especially Callie Sanderson, whose husband Abel is in a coma as a result of an auto accident that she is convinced wasn't an accident as the police concluded. The main reason she's convinced is that she was told Althea who is a psychic, that he drove into a tree while trying to avoid someone. I'm not opposed to the notion that there are folks who "see" and "know" things others may not, but Callie's determination to go off on her own despite good advice from people to whom she should listen to, like the police...kind of placed her in the nut category for me. Not only did she not listen to reason, her "on-my-own sleuthing" never once turned up any facts the police didn't already know. Finally, there's that title thing. I like for my titles to at least somewhat fit the storyline...after all that's what most of my choices of books are based on. So, all the way through, I kept waiting to find out what the "lies" were that her husband told. All I could see was that while he didn't always spell out in detail what he did and where he was every minute of every day, I couldn't find a single time in which he told an actual untruth. All that said, the story itself held my interest throughout. I just sort of ignored Callie's relentless questioning of her own thoughts and those of everybody else and focused on what was actually happening. It seems that two young girls recently went missing and haven't been found, and little by little, connections between the girls and Abel come to light. Questions began to form and that's usually a sign that I don't totally hate the book:) Was it possible her husband had something to do with the girl's disappearances? We learned that he did go out a few times without telling her specifically where he'd been. Still, Callie can't believe he's involved, but the plot thickens as she digs deeper, egged on by Althea's newfound insights. Her neighbors in the rather remote area of the Adirondacks become suspects also based only on something they said, or didn't say, even Abel's estranged brother, Garr, who suddenly turns up out of nowhere, isn't immune from her suspicions. Meantime, the police, led by detective Footman, continue to work the case despite Callie's constant harping about issues they're already investigating. Overall, it was worth 4 stars and I believe that this is a book that most readers of this genre will enjoy.

Many thanks to both Joffe Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Her Husband's Lies!

Can you imagine having a great life, living in a home on ten acres in the Adirondacks with your husband? You're a writer who has a son away at college. Yes, it's a fairly secluded life, but you are content. Now imagine the bottom dropping out of your world. That is what happens to Callie when her husband's truck slides off the road and ends up in an icy lake. Now he's in a coma and no one knows if he will ever awaken. As if that's not bad enough, things are about to get worse ... and much stranger. Welcome to Callie's world.

Her Husband's Lies was quite twisty and suspenseful!! The young woman who claimed to know information about the accident intrigued me. Callie is inspired by her to investigate the circumstances of Abel's accident on her own. A further complication is the disappearance of three girls. Abel couldn't possibly have been involved! (Could he??)

My least favorite aspect of the book was all the explanations given at the end in order to tie up the many threads of the story. But before the pesky explanations, we had wonderful suspense, twists, sinister vibes, and intrigue!!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Zooloos Book Tours.

Her Husband's Lies is a twisty and suspenseful read about having everything you could wish for and then it all falling through your fingertips. This is now Callies reality. Callie had everything - a ten-acre beautiful home in the Adriondacks with her husband Abel, a son at college, the seclusion she wants and enjoys. But this all comes crashing down when Abel is in an accident which has left him in a coma. But if that wasn't bad enough, things are about to get twisted really bad and really quickly in Callies world. I loved all the twists and turns and curve balls this book throws at you. This would make a great movie! The book is tied up nicely at the end with everything explained.

I really enjoyed this book, and went back and forth on who the culprit was the entire time. The story centers on Callie, whose husband Abel is in a coma after a car accident. She isn’t sure why Abel was even in that area when the accident occurred, and then a call from a woman named Althea who claims to know more details causes her to do some investigating on her own. There have been girls going missing in the vicinity; could this tie to Abel in some way?

I liked Callie - this is another one of those books where the protagonist takes matters into their own hands and gets overly involved in the police investigation, but in this case Callie made decisions that I thought reasonable people would make, and she also knew how she was coming off to the police. She was scrappy and smart and I appreciated the thoughtfulness behind the things that she did. The author did a great job in creating questions around who was guilty and what was really going on- the story is very twisty, and when the truth comes out, I did not see it coming but it all made sense.

Overall, I would recommend this book to those who enjoy mysteries and psychological thrillers. It’s a fast paced read with a likable protagonist and an exciting ending. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars, actually

I've read and thoroughly enjoyed two other books by this talented author, so I was looking forward to this one - but alas, it was a little disappointing. While the plot itself is well-written and drew me in, I just couldn't get excited about the characters - especially Callie Sanderson, whose husband Abel is in a coma as a result of an auto accident she's convinced wasn't an accident as the police investigation concluded. The main reason she's convinced is that she was told by a "psychic" named Althea that he drove into a tree while trying to get away from someone.

Honestly, I'm not opposed to the notion that there are folks who "see" things others don't, but Callie's determination to go off on her own despite good advice from people to whom she should listen - i.e., the police - was a turnoff (the main objection I have to the female leads in cozy mysteries, BTW). But not only did she - a grown-up with a college-age son - not listen to reason, her on-my-own sleuthing never once, as far as I could tell, turned up any facts the police didn't already know. Finally, there's that title thing; all the way through, I kept waiting to find out what "lies" her husband told. And for the life of me, while he didn't always spell out in detail what he did and where he was every minute of every day - who does? - I couldn't find a single time in which he told an actual untruth.

All that said, the story itself held my interest throughout (I just sort of ignored Callie's relentless questioning of her own thoughts and those of everybody else) and focused on what was actually happening. It seems that two young girls recently went missing and haven't been found - and little by little, connections between the girls and Abel come to light. Is it possible her beloved husband had something to do with their disappearances? After all, he did go out a few times without telling her specifically where he'd been. Still, Callie can't believe he's involved, but the plot thickens as she digs deeper, egged on by Althea's newfound remembrances. Neighbors in the rather remote area of the Adirondacks become suspects just because of something they said (or didn't say); even Abel's estranged brother Garr, who suddenly turns up, isn't immune from her suspicions. Meantime, the police, led by detective Footman, continue to work the case despite Callie's constant harping about issues they're already investigating.

Overall, this is an enjoyable book I think most readers of this genre will enjoy. Many thanks to the publisher, via NetGalley, for offering me the opportunity to read and review a pre-release copy.

Holy moly. Her Husband's Lies by T.J. Brearton was definitely an unputdownable psychological thriller with a very good twist. This book was so good.

Callie has a great life, living in a ten-acre home in the Adirondacks with her husband, Abel. Their son is away at college, and Callie, a writer, is content living a relatively secluded life. Then Abel skids off the road into an icy lake. No one heard or saw anything. But Abel is left in a coma in a Vermont hospital. Then Callie gets calls from a woman who claims to know more about the accident. And the story takes off!

The story was quite addictive and hard to put down. The author did a great job writing heart-pounding scenes that had you racing through the pages. I was not sure what was going to happen from chapter to chapter.

I really liked the relationship between Detective Footman and Callie. Their frustration with each other and also working together to get to the truth.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this book at first, then BOOM, it just took off, and I read it in a day and a half. Her Husband's Lies has a good storyline and a surprise ending.

I really liked the cover by Nick Castle.

I would definitely recommend this book. So good!!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

It was ok. A bit too convoluted and far-fetched for my taste.
At the end I’m still not sure how and why.

Also I find it a bit odd that it has taken Callie 6 weeks to look further into her husband’s accident. Idk!

This is my second book by T.J. Brearton, and I enjoyed it as much as the first.

Callie's husband is in a coma following a car accident. Although the police decided it was only an accident, Callie wonders if there was more to it. When a mysterious caller tells Callie she has information about what really happened to him, her suspicions are confirmed.

To make things worse, Callie then learns her husband may be connected to the disappearance of two teen girls. She knows she must find answers. What follows is a wild ride of twists and turns.

This was an intriguing book, full of twists and surprises. At one moment I thought I had it figured out, and then something happened to upend my theory. I love books like that, ones that keep me guessing.

I couldn't put it down, it was so fun to read.

Her Husband's Lies will be released December 15, 2022.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for sending me a free copy.

Sensational

What a gripping plot about a woman who is a Crime author. When her husband has an accident something seems off, he is left in a coma and she tries to unravel the truth.
Brearton writes a fast paced gripping story with a brilliant twist right at the end. I'd never have guessed who the killer was.
As a first time reader to this author, I'll definitely be reading more of them.

A good read

I'll put it out there right upfront - I don't agree that there is a "breathtaking twist". In my opinion I don't think there really was a twist at all. I did enjoy the story but it's not without its issues. First off, like other reviewers I couldn't really connect to the main character as I found it hard to fathom someone going to the extremes she did regardless of the circumstances. Secondly, the responsible party seemed like an afterthought of the author and hardly made sense. Finally the title was misleading and I will leave it at that. Overall it was a quick and easy read and I will try another by this author. 3.5 stars.

This story started out well. A man(Abel) is involved in a bizarre accident in the snow that ploughs him into a lake. When he is rescued by a good Samaritan he is in a coma. His wife(Callie) is contacted by a supposed psychic(Althea) claiming to know what happened. Then the story becomes convoluted and twisted and my interest waned. 3 stars.

Masterful

Yes, Mr. Brearton you have indeed finished a new book, and one hell of a story to boot!
Let's face it, someone who can create one of the main characters, have us believe him to be all things; victim, witness, lying cheat, and least of all, serial killer - at any time all throughout, and all while in a COMA the entire novel...is definitely kicking it!! You may take a well earned rest, umm, for a short while, anyhow ~

This is my fifth novel by Timothy Brearton and I found it to be most engrossing. The author has done himself proud with this psychological thriller. The story focuses on Callie who lives in the Adirondacks with her husband, Abel, a carpenter and caretaker. One night her husband has a car accident and ends up in a coma. The police can't establish exactly what happened but weeks later, Callie gets a call from a woman named Althea Cooper from Syracuse, New York who claims to know some of the details of what befell Abel. And it's bad! I was totally riveted watching the story progress and the tale really hurtled along. I just had to know what happened next and the curveballs all lead to an exciting, neat finale. A 5-star read for sure!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Joffe Books via NetGalley at my own request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

God another not go great book, not having a good streak them at the moment. This book lacked any suspense at all.

🚫 The character were just awful and most of them were just pointing. Callie was a reckless and stupid women who only decided after 6 weeks to investigate her husbands death. All while running acting like a “cop”🙄🙄

🚫 The actual killer made no sense at all!! It was like the author just want sure who and right at the last minute decided😒

🚫 Killing of Garr was just really unnecessary! The ending was super rushed 😬

To be honest I only good think about this book was that it was sort and was easy to read. Otherwise it was unrealistic and didn’t leave at all shocked or surprised by anything.

Thank you for the opportunity Her husbands Lies
I have read other books by Brearton. Some better than others. This one was good.
Callie is an author living in up state New York with her husband Abel. They have a good life and a good marriage. A bad accident puts her husband in a coma but the circumstances and investigation do not feel right to Callie so she starts her own plan to find out what really happened.
She gets a call from a young woman who claims she can see things and she has visions of what happened to Abel
Callie is drawn into a web of murders and missing people and it appears her husband may be involved. But he’s in a coma and she’s starting to think he had secrets and maybe he is a killer.
Her search for the truth might just mean she loses everything important including the life she cherished and a husband she may not have known at all.

Great psychological thriller. This is my first story from T.J. Brearton and I will be checking out his other published work.

Callie and her husband Abel are loving their best life. Their son is off to college and they are relaxing and living on 10- acres in the Adirondack. When Abel gets into a car accident their once stable life is turned upside down. Abel is in a coma and there are missing girls.

Callie is in a race against time to prove her husband is innocent. When she receives a call from a stranger telling her she knows what happened to Abel. Callie has no idea which way to go and obstacles keep getting in the way. She must decide who to trust and find the truth before it’s to late

While the story started about slow for me and I felt like there was a lot going on I am so glad I read this book. Brearton does a fantastic job of bringing it all together at the end.

Big thanks to Negalley, Joffe books and T.J. Brearton for an Arc copy in exchange for an honest review.

Abel is involved in a car accident and is in a coma. His wife, Callie, receives a call from Althea, who claims she sees visions. Althea says she saw things about Abel. The police wanted to talk to Abel about missing girls. The first part of the novel is slow moving, but then the pace quickens. A few twists and turns with a conclusion I did not expect.

Highly Recommended!!!

I enjoy TJ's books. This one actually gave me goose bumps. There were so many suspects and twists and turns. This kept me guessing right to the end. Mr. Brearton has a devious writing style. It's about a woman whose husband is in an accident where he ends up in a coma. The wife investigated why he was where he was and that leads her down a rabbit hole, where you don't know who to trust. The police say it's an accident, but what really happened? Read this and find out.

Really more of a 3.5 but not quite a 4, maybe a 3.75 - I didn’t LOVE the last chapter , felt unnecessary HOWEVER, maybe a lead up to a sequel??? However I’m not sure how that would be used to make an entire second book.
Overall very intriguing & kept me hooked!

Callie's husband, Abel, has been in a coma for weeks following a vehicle accident. The police are convinced that there was no foul play. Callie doesn't know what she thinks. Suddenly, a woman claiming to be a psychic calls and gets Callie all worked up. The police are now asking questions about missing girls. Callie begins her own investigation. Did Abel really have an accident or did he see or do something he shouldn't have?

I found this book hard to put down. I changed my mind so many times about what happened. In the end, I was completely wrong. "Her Husband's Lies" is a really good book!

Her Husband's Lies is an amazing, hold-on-to-your-seat five-star read! The twists and turns don't stop in this one. Who is telling the truth and who is lying? You won't know until the end.

Callie is an author whose beloved husband suffers a terrible car accident and has been in a coma for six weeks. Something about the accident feels off. Her husband was about an hour away from home and had no reason to be in that area that she knew of. Was it simply an accident on icy roads or was it more sinister? Who was he meeting in the small town that she didn't know?

Between trying to juggle keeping her college-age son in school, a house and finding out more about her husband's accident, and wishing for him to wake up, she's about to break. When a mysterious woman calls to tell her she knows more about her husband's accident, Callie isn't sure if it is a scam or the beginning of her ability to unravel the mystery.

Very, very good book. Readers won't want to put this one down.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Her Husband’s Lies had me hooked from the very beginning! This is a fast paced, highly entertaining thriller that focuses on our main character, Callie, who starts investigating her husband’s accident that has left him in a coma after a woman calls her claiming to know why the accident happened. You immediately start questioning, how well does Callie know her husband and what was he really doing before the accident. The novel has some great twists and when I thought I had it all figured out a new piece unraveled and I changed my mind. This was my first T.J. Brearton book and I plan on reading a few more!

Thank you to NetGalley and Joffre Books for sending this book for review considerations. All opinions are my own.

This is a good book! I recently discovered this author, and am now reading his books. Others by him have been great as well. I loved this book. It was brilliant. It has all the elements you need for a great psychological thriller. Great characters, a slow and steady start leading to an adrenaline fuelled ending, with a plot that leads you down a path with many twists and turns right up until the very end. Honestly, this is a properly addictive read that you just can’t put down. I think one of the reasons that this psychological thriller works so well though for me is the writing of the characters, every character has their purpose, is believable and adds depth to the development of the story. A cracking read.
