Nearly 300,000 years ago, Véa, Nix, and two dozen others created billions of souls. Without enough room on their home worlds to house them all, they brought them to Earth. They planned to return to Morduaine and Matriaza one day, once they defeated their ancient enemy.
But it isn’t the ruthless soul eaters they’re worried with this time. It’s Nix’s brother, Lux.
In a red stained rage, Lux burns Morduaine and Matriaza to dust.
Attempting to punish Lux for his sins sparks a war unlike any Earth has seen before. The war of the gods.
The former kings and queens hide wherever they can, fight as hard as they can, and pray they won’t lose their souls in the process.
Although listed as a stand alone novel, this book connects Charlie's Origins of the Gods and Eluding Destiny series. It is not recommended to read this book first.
I can't say this enough, this series is phenomenal!! I didn't know how much I needed this bridge between the two series until I had it! So many ends were tied up, answers revealed and plots thickened further! Charlie is an absolute mastermind at interweaving fantasy stories that will illicit tears, laughs, and anger all within one chapter!! I won't give spoilers but if you haven't given any of Charlie's stories a try, you are missing out on so much!!
This one was one of the hardest books reads this author has put out to date.
I've read every book in the series' that came before CotG, so I had a pretty good idea of what was coming. But that didn't make it any easier to read. Don't misunderstand, I loved every single moment. But Curse of the Gods is an emotion pulling book.
It perfectly ties the ED and OotG series together and preps you for the next book.
Just make sure you have some tissues with you before you start this one. And buckle up for this ride.
Oh my Lux this was an outstanding and amazing read. Honestly, I dont know where to start. There are so many things I loved, it’s so difficult for me to put into words, basically I’m speechless.
Whilst this is part of the Origins of the Gods series, it is also a direct follow up to the last Eluding Destiny book. We have come full circle and everything we were desperate to know about Laila and Jeremy past life’s is revealed. Remember the end of Hiraeth? My mind is completely blown.
You must read these in order to fully experience this amazing story of true soul mates. So completely original having both of these amazing series connect, and the way Charlie has done it, really does make me lost for words. So completely original. I know this review won’t do her justice. Trust me I will be thinking about this for days. In fact it’s one that I know will stay for a lifetime.
Morally grey characters are my absolute favourite and honestly, not one of these guys are 100% good, or bad for that matter. It’s so refreshing to see people making mistakes even with good intentions. As for Lux, I had this strange feeling he wasn’t all bad. Well wait to you read about what he endured too.
I want to rave at the top of my voice how amazing Charlie Nottingham is for brining these characters into existence and writing something so beautiful, raw and realistic, while on a completely fictional fantasy setting. It makes you feel every emotion possible.
In previous reviews I mentioned these characters felt like my friends or family. Every time I finish a book I miss them all over again. To think what’s still to come is making me beyond excited.
One of my favourite reads of the year so far. More than top marks. Perfection and beyond.
If you haven't read either Eluding Destiny or The Origins of the Gods, don't start here! This is labeled as stand alone, however not only will you spoil both series, but without context this won't make much sense. This is meant to bridge the gap between what was and what is. That being said, holy cow, I did not see that coming. I love that we got so many answered questions. I can't wait to see how they resolve some of what happens here. We're what, 20 ish books in on Eluding Destiny and this book just comes in and sweeps the rug out from under you. Betrayal, genocide, torture and a good dose of what in the actual f just happened. Hold onto your hats and check your tw, cuz that betrayal will blindside you and the aftermath is ugly. As much as I enjoyed the tying of loose ends that is both Origins and Curse of the Gods, I'll be glad to get back to Laila and Jeremy. As always, outstanding job Charlie.
I've read all the currently published eluding destiny & origins of the gods books. So I kinda knew what to expect, or so I thought. Holy heck this book wrecked me emotionally! I cried so much. While technically a "stand alone" I would not recommend reading this unless you've at least read the Origins trilogy, even better if you read Eluding Destiny & it's prequels thru book 13. It will all hit so much harder. I was among those calling for Charlie to write this book, begged for it more like, and she did not disappoint. I'm completely destroyed! Amazing work. Truly. I'm gonna go cry some more and squeeze my babies& husband a bit tighter for a few days.
3.75/5. It’s more then a 3 but not a 4. This wasn’t one of my favorite books by Charlie Nottingham. I still enjoy it but it felt kinda of slow. I liked getting more of the back story. When I read the Origins series I never got the feeling Lux was capable of such evil. I believe he had know it was Nix baby on that cliff, he would have stop. Lux wasn’t evil or good, he was just Lux. He loved Nix and in his own way he loved Vea. He loved his family. I didn’t expect Nix to be so violent towards his nephews, I understand why but damn!

***Don't read this one first!!! Read Eluding Destiny 0-13 and the Origin of the Gods trilogy first! **TW available on the authors website This has only solidified my opinion that Charlie is bloody brilliant. Holy guacamole batman. This book....my heart is broken and my mind is blown in the best of ways. This one got me. It has been so long since a book truly shocked me to my core. 10\10 I adore this world so much.
only read if you’ve read eluding destiny and/origins
This was amazing. Literally could not put it down. We all knew what was coming and it was heart wrenching all the same. Though I have to say I didn’t see some of it coming.
Beautifully written as always. Hands down the best series I’ve read in a long time.
While billed as a stand alone. It isn’t so please don’t read this unless you’ve read the other series. But you should totally read those too!
I absolutely love Charlie and have read both eluding destiny and origins of the gods. If you haven't read either of these, then i would suggest you don't read this 1st.
I mean she's done it again, I've been sucked into L and Js world wholeheartedly! I loved this story, it tied up so many questions I had on how they got from A to ending up at B! I do have more questions now 🤣🤣 but I'm pretty sure the next Eluding destiny will help with those.
Charlie's whole world she has built is amazing, this book had me crying my eyes out, feeling sympathy for characters I didn't think I ever would, it isnt a happy book 😔 but it's a necessary part of the story and I love it!
If you have read other series by this author this book is for you! This book is meant to bridge some gaps between the Eluding Destiny series and Origins of Gods. It provides many answers to the burning questions that readers have had and we’re dying to find out from the other series! The novel was emotionally charged and brought all of the feelings and tears to the surface. The author did a wonderful job with the characters and found a great way to bridge 2 series together.
