Finding ArJay: Memoirs of an Ordinary Man

Rate this book
An only child in a hardworking, isolating family headed by an intense, angry man, ArJay seldom saw or experienced expressions of acceptance or affection. Not surprisingly, he entered adulthood clueless, filled with fear and shame, desperately seeking a love he did not understand, could not recognize, and was unable to express. A poor candidate for marriage indeed.
Finding ArJay describes the author’s search-filled life leading to a series of poor relationship decisions, uncertain educational explorations, and varied career choices. Entering midlife, he was teaching in college and floundering in relationships, and by 50, having failed to be approved for tenure, he was exploring private practice as a psychotherapist.
In the end, as something of a 75-year coming-of-age memoir, Finding ArJay tells the story of how an ordinary man’s search to find himself through doing and being in psychotherapy led to increased self-awareness in life and relationships.
