About the author

Quentin Gréban was born in 1977 in Brussels (Belgium) where he still lives today. He studied illustration at the Saint Luc Institute in Brussels. Since 1999 Quentin has published more than 25 children’s books in several French‚ Belgian‚ German and Greek publishing houses. His books are translated in many countries (Germany‚ Denmark‚ Hungary‚ England‚ Canada‚ Greece‚ Korea‚ United States…) He received the Saint–Exupéry award in 2000 for «Les contes de l’Alphabet» (Editions du Jasmin). His work has been selected in 1999‚ 2001 and 2008 in the Annual of the Bologna Children’s Bookfair (Italy).

One of my favourites. The large format hardcover book is ideal to showcase Gréban's wonderful pencil/watercolour illustrations. The Spanish edition names the little ladybug "Encarnita" which is a joke, as "encarnado/a" means "red." I love Encarnita's satchel, her little antennae, and the buttons and straps that hold her carapace to her back! The pencilled outlines give a feeling of "the artist at work". We always chuckle over the "clever ants" (the only insects in the book with the regulation number of appendages) and the baby dragonfly with its pacifier, and hold our breaths when Encarnita speaks to the frog who eats ladybugs--but only when they're ripe!

We've read this book repeatedly since we found it by a lucky chance in a bookshop. I get the feeling Gréban may have been adressing a real child's fears of getting lost...or perhaps one who did, but was found again.

Read it to someone you love, even if that someone is just yourself.

Мы с сынишкой обожаем эту книгу. Картинки симпатичные и с воображением, но и не мультяшные. Сюжет естественным образом предлагает обсудить с малышами, что делать, если потеряешься и не знаешь дорогу домой. А в том месте, где Сюзетта бросилась к маме и крепко обняла её, мой сын всегда иллюстрирует это делом =))
Есть пара малюсеньких придирок к переводу, плюс на одной страничке чуть-чуть обрезали уголок иллюстрации рядом с текстом - но в целом книжка отличная и вносит разнообразие в нашу состоящую во многом из народных сказок и признанной классики библиотеку.
