Arriving at what she has calculated as more or less the middle of her life, things for bookworm Lotta Button, her nose always stuck in a book, are not going at all the way she planned. With that thing they call life throwing all the hurdles it can her way as a new year rolls around, she hits rock bottom and wonders how she’s ever going to crawl her way back up.
When she finds herself at yet another family wedding in the lobby of a country house, she bumps into a man, and little does she know, he is going to become quite the feature in her world. He needs a partner for a business deal, and a few little white lies she’s told mean he could help her out too… With a book always as her companion, Lotta embarks on a fake relationship and the story unfolds before our eyes, what Lotta thought was going to happen in her year doesn’t quite pan out that way at all.
Come along and watch from the sidelines as Lotta not only embarks on a fake dating relationship but also finds herself in a house whereupon she gets to fulfil all her reading retreat dreams and set up her very own library. Reading goals right there before our eyes.
I really struggled with Lotta for most of the story. I understand depression and going through difficult things, but Lotta wasn’t very like-able. She was clearly stuck in a rut, close-minded, and pathetic. She was basically a doormat. Her falling for Jack felt very off because he didn’t do anything to make it seem he liked her and honestly, having him show up at the end was so forced. I’d have been more impressive if the book at ended with her moving on with her life in the new job sans a boyfriend.
Brilliant reading was so glad to be back in pretty beach Polly Babbington you’ve done it again just loved everyone in it loved the story line and again once it’s finished I’m find myself lost with out and other one. If readers haven’t read any of polly books and want to be transported to a beautiful haven then pretty beach is the answer
This just didn’t work for me. Lotta was such a downer. Constant repetitive negative thoughts about her ex and crummy circumstances. It took until about 50% of the book for things to get going and too much time was spent in her head. I found it hard to buy into the relationship in the end because there was so little development I felt like they barely knew each other.
I've moved from darling island to pretty beach what a seamless journey Polly has held me captive I am totally hooked I am back in my cosy chair , these stories are great for your soul I highly recommend them , great characters you really care about and the plots are on the nose a well deserved 5 stars
Such a lovely book to read, as all Polly Babbington’s books are. I was mesmerised by the fake Date thing. Love was in the air though at one time thought it was doomed. Shan’t a book so sit and read when you have a day by the sea or a day when it’s raining this will fill the day with smiles and laughter.
Lotta could be my new favourite character. A very welcome trip back to PB. Such a lovely book, and great seeing Lotta's character and life evolve. Great meeting the lovely Jack also. 💙 well done Polly, you've smashed it again.
Polly, you’ve done it again. I just love your books. It’s so easy to get engrossed into the lives of your characters & you’ve done it again with Lotta. I can’t wait to read what she does next with the house & what’s on the cards for her & Jack. Thank you 🙏
A happy book. Lots of feel good vibes and hope for us singles whose life throws us curve balls. Can’t get enough of Darlings and now Pretty Beach. Bring it on Polly
Absolutely loved Lotta and Jack and all the other characters. I can identify with Lotta with her obsession with reading I am the same way. I enjoyed every aspect of this book. Job well done. 😁
I enjoyed the storyline, but the main character, Lotta…really got on my nerves. She was very negative, and made all her decisions based on her negative feelings, rather than the facts. But as I said a good story so therefore 4 stars.
As always, I cannot get enough of Poppy’s lovely stories. The little coastal town of Pretty Beach is alive and well with Lotta and Jack but I needed more…. I hope her next in the series comes soon and as a tip Poppy? I want your books to be longer. They’re so good I think the author deserves to be paid so I’m buying them in future. Highly recommended.
