I love these random level 2 books that we pick up. So my 5 yr old was picking only superheros, scooby-doo, and spongebob when I asked him to pick level 2 books to read. So now the rule is he has to pick some that aren't one's of characters he knows. It's working. He's loved every single one of them so far, and this was no exception. The wrong way rabbit, tibbar jack, is a little rabbit who likes to do everything backwards from saying good night to the morning sun, to putting his shoes on his ears. It drives his mother and teacher crazy, but makes for a great and entertaining story. It took us to the end to realize most of the prose was in rhyme (my son's reading isn't quite that smooth yet) and it came as even a greater surprise to us to find out how he got his name! We totally should have guessed, but neither of us noticed! It made for a great surprise ending. Two thumbs up on this one!

I would highly caution those who are reading this book that it is very upsetting for neurodiverse children. I know everyone's reading it as cute and funny because this rabbit is not "normal", but it's an ableist book that is setting "normal" as the right way of doing things, instead of being okay with people doing things differently.

It would be upsetting for some autistic children to read this at all.

DescriptionMeet Tibbar Jack--the Wrong-Way Rabbit. He walks backwards. He talks backwards. And he is very funny. Part of the Hello Reader! series, The Wrong-Way Rabbit has been tested for vocabulary and sentence length to encourage young readers. This story is designed for pre-school-age readers. Full-color throughout.

4.5, love the sing-song text and the silliness.

This book is about a rabbit that does everything backwards. He walks backwards, he puts his juice in a bowl and his cereal in a cup, he goes up the down stairs, and he goes in the out. He drives his mom and teacher crazy. He's not like the other kids but he doesn't care. He likes to do his own thing.
I think this is a great book to teach kids about individuality. They should know that it is okay to not be like everyone else. Kids should never be afraid to be themselves. This book is a level 2 book meant for kindergarten through second grade. It is easy to read and there isn't a lot of text on each page. The illustrations are very colorful and detailed. I like how all the facial expressions are very clear. Everyone looks at him in kind of an odd way and throughout the whole story he has a big smile and is as happy as can be. He doesn't care what people think of him and that's how kids should be too. Even from a simple story like this one kids can learn a very strong positive message. I would highly suggest kids read this book.

Ian liked it ... but I had all sorts of questions afterwords.....why does he wear clothes? Shouldn't he sleep during the day? How does he handle mealtimes? For a rabbit who does everything opposite there sure are a lot of loopholes here.
