The incredibly influential fantasy novel comes to comics!
Fitz begins to settle into his new life in Buckkeep, though even here among new friends, stares and whispers haunt his every step. But the power growing within him is stirring, and Fitz will learn to have to control the ancient forces of his blood, or face certain destruction!
The first comics installment of best-selling author Robin Hobbs's Assassin's Apprentice!
2nd in the graphic series, it continues the story. I am still not enchanted by the drawings, they don't seem to capture the characters' behaviour as they should, but yet again, it's Fitz' story, and I am a long time fan of it, so, waiting for the next...
So, Pete at the comic store told me that he put this series on hold for me, but then, I got #3 and never got #2. He told me there was an issue (no pun intended) with it, and so I had to wait while he waited for it to come in. I was waiting and waiting and searched myself and couldn’t find a hard copy of it. I looked at the store again and saw 1, 3, and 4 on the shelf but still no 2, so I gave in and bought the digital copy because I’m already so far behind in this series. But where have all the #2s gone?! I enjoyed this issue, of course. It builds Fitz’s backstory with the Wit and introduces him to the town and to Molly.
I must say, I'm enjoying the story a lot more in this format.
The art is darker than I'd like, but it does suit the story I suppose. There's definitely some clever work in the art.
Was cool to meet Fitz's new friends, though he's still not the most likeable character himself. He doesn't really have much of a personality beyond being best friends with a dog. *shrug*
It's certainly much easier to digest than the novel, though, so I'm grateful for that. Looking forward to seeing it pick up a bit.
This has so far done a fantastic job at following the books, however, I do feel as though some things are still getting lost in the transition. I am going to continue, because this is one of my all time favorite series.
