From the second fifteen year old Jacob Paulson started his new job at Books and Bobs he sensed his life would forever be altered. Old man Rice was nothing like the ill-tempered, crazy man his friends had all warned him about. If anything, he became the father figure Jacob never had.
However, there was no denying Bob Rice was eccentric, and just what was the mysterious object in the store room that Jacob was strangely attracted to? Had Jacob imagined the woman crying upstairs and what was the “research” Bob insisted he kept private?
As Jacob struggles with growing up with a depressed mother, experiencing his first love, dealing with grief and learning that the real horror in the world is sometimes the adults in his life rather than the fantasy monsters Jacob loves.
Through it all, everything seems to lead back to Books and Bobs and the hidden object in the store room.
