The Adventures of Pinocchio

Rate this book
Pinocchio was naughty from the very first day that Geppetto created him. Instead of going to school or learning a trade, the little puppet who magically came to life wanted only to eat, drink, sleep, and play.
Poor Pinocchio's problems grew — as did his nose every time he told a lie, which was quite often. And even worse, he found himself in one dreadful situation after another; in prison, turned into a donkey, and even stranded in the belly of an enormous shark.
Enhanced by Thea Kliros's 32 original illustrations, this newly abridged version of the beloved story includes all the familiar characters: Geppetto, a childless woodcarver; a wise old cricket; a sly fox and conniving cat; a lovely fairy; and a host of other figures.
Filled with humor and adventure, and sealed with a heartwarming conclusion, this time-honored fable has thrilled youngsters for over 100 years. In this inexpensive edition, it will continue to enchant new readers and listeners.

This is a book about a little puppet that lies. There is a lesson in this book but I wont spoil it. I liked reading this book when I was little because it was funny and interesting. I would recommend this book to ages 3-7.

Disney's Pinocchio was weird and uncomfortable enough but when I read about how much more insane the book is, I had to read it and boy, it didn't disappoint! This is such a strange, sick, creative and hilarious story, I laughed out loud more than I had at any book in a long time, even though it's translated you can tell Collodi had a great way with words! I was constantly in shock at the violence and strange happenings and in a few places I was rather uncomfortable. The basics we've seen in Disney or other tame versions are still there but it's entirely different, Pinocchio is for the most part a villain, especially early on. Honestly this book is so dark and freaky I'm stunned little kids have had it read to them, I think you should be at least 12 before hearing this version! But I had a lot of fun reading it!

Kes meist ei oleks kuulnud lugu puunukust, kelle nina kasvab, kui ta räägib valesid? See raamat on lihtsustatud versioon Pinocchio seiklustest.

I’m still hung up on the fact that this story was my first to read and it opened the gate of my golden era of, though made me highly allergic to lies and liars, being a bibliophile. It just created the journey. So, here’s to my first finished read from the kiddos neighbourhood!

It was a read aloud book for my kiddos- and I had to skim parts of it because it would be scary for my 6 and under kiddos!

Title: The Adventures of Pinocchio
Author: Carlo Collodi
Publisher: Dover Publications, Inc.
Genre: Adventure

Pinocchio was a lazy and disobedient puppet made from a chunk of wood that talked. The old carpenter Geppetto, who made Pinocchio, was strict, polite and caring toward him. However, Pinocchio was disrespectful and ungrateful toward Geppetto. When Geppetto was put in jail (after scolding Pinocchio for running away from home), Pinocchio found himself all alone at home. Suddenly, a talking cricket appeared and told him to be an obedient child, instead of being a spoiled brat. In a fit of anger, Pinocchio accidentally killed the cricket.

Some time later, Pinocchio earned five gold coins by acting in a show. A blind cat and a lame fox tricked Pinocchio to planting the coins in the soil so they could steal them when he went away. At night, Pinocchio could not find the coins and was caught by murderers; they tied him up in a tree. The next morning, a fairy with azure hair saw Pinocchio. She asked her helpers to untie him and bring him to her. When he lied to the fairy about everything that happened, his nose began to grow. He learned not to lie and promised to go to school. He studied hard, and by the end of the year, he had top marks in his exams.

Pinocchio’s mischievous, trouble-making friend, Lampwick, persuaded him to go to a country called Toy Land where people have fun all day and do no work. Suddenly, Pinocchio became a donkey! Pinocchio was sold to a circus and made mistakes when he performed. Afterwards, Pinocchio was sold to a musician who wanted donkey skin to make a drum. The musician drowned Pinocchio, but fish ate his skin and he became the naughty puppet again. The musician dropped him into the sea; Pinocchio found a goat with a blue coat. It told him to swim for his life because an enormous shark was after him. Unfortunately, the great shark swallowed him. Inside the abdomen of the shark, Pinocchio found Geppetto, who had apparently been searching the whole world for his puppet. Since the shark was suffering from asthma and heart problems, he slept with his mouth wide open. Pinocchio and Geppetto stealthily escaped from the shark and swam to the nearest harbor. They found a house and Pinocchio earned money for his father. After working for many days, Pinocchio finally became a real boy!

My favorite character was Geppetto because he was a loving father to his puppet.

Initially it almost throws the moral teachings on the reader. By the end it starts serving them well with the story. It might seem boring in the beginning but it gets a nice grip of your attention by the end.

Lots of peril in this one but nothing that couldn't be edited on the fly. Also, PS, the whole thing about his nose growing was barely in the book at all. Also he hardly fibbed at all.

though i'm not kid anymore, going back to my chilhood is absolutely amazing! Its short chapters make it's easily to read and understand. If some books make you tired of longing chapters, you should try this. :)
