Carlos: A Tale of Survival

Rate this book
He survived the war, but how will he survive the peace?Carlos Montoya spent years of torment and deprivation at the hands of his Japanese captors in World War II. In this novel based closely on his true life experiences, you will follow Carlos through his time in the New Mexico National Guard in the late 30's and early 40's. His tortuous survival of the infamous Bataan Death March, his capture and imprisonment in the Philippines, and his trip via Hellship to Japan to finish out the war as a slave laborer. Each day with life and death hanging by a slender thread, Carlos must learn to endure the unendurable in order to survive, but it isn't until after the war that he begins to learn the true cost of survival.

I am proud to have been able to call Carlos Montoya my friend. I only wish he could have been around a little longer. Next week, I will retrace his steps during a visit to the Philipines where I will spend a few days on the Bataan Peninsula.
