I think Coyote is one of my favourite manga series. This volume had that ominous feel of anticipation before a battle. Things are intense as ever between the werewolves and the Galland's, but haven't spilled over into all out war. It's the not-so-calm before the storm.
And while that's all happening, we get some of the more romantic and sweet moments between Coyote and Marleen. We are getting fed with this one. But it's so good it has me worried for the next volume. I just want them to be happy!
Thank you, Ranmaru, for the birthday treat. I did enjoy this volume, albeit not us much as I did the previous ones. I've waited a year for this one to come out, but honestly, I fell asleep reading it. The pacing and storytelling in this one are not as rich as the ones before it. They are still one of my favorite couple, though. I just missed the kind of emotion it made me feel before, and I was hungry for that certain feeling to experience once again, upon seeing the volume's already out. Clearly, It did not reflect on this one.
The cliffhanger is kind of dragging me on edge, though, and I know I'll have to wait another year to know what happens next.
Let me just take this opportunity to gush about Zaria and her incredible mastery of the human anatomy evident in her art. Her depiction of the human form is not only strikingly accurate but also sensually and tastefully executed.
Her art, with its inherent explicit nature, manages to be both alluring and provocative without crossing into vulgarity. She has a unique talent for creating scenes that exude the sensuality and intimacy of same-sex relationships. Her ability to convey these themes is both authentic and refined, offering a genuine representation of love and desire among gay relationships.
Her work goes beyond mere visual appeal though; it often resonates deeply with those who identify with or appreciate homoerotic art, as it tastefully explores these emotions and connections between characters.
I am SO looking forward to a 5th volume. After finally finishing the first volume, I really devoured the next three. Many scenes actually put tears in my eyes as I really felt for the loss Marleen felt as Lili seemed to slip from his grasp and life, in addition to the confusion and frustration from his parents' meaningless death. I've just realized that although his parents were in the "wrong place, wrong time" before their murder, one could easily see Marleen meeting Lili as "right place, right time" since Marleen was only playing piano in that bar and scoping it out for werewolves for one month.
Another phenomenal volume. This one mostly centered around the politics between humans and werewolves but sprinkled a little bit of spice in there at the end.
Though I'd forgotten where it left off (you know, waiting a long time for this volume to finally drop), I picked up the plot easily. Though I liked the series a lot, I feel like they should have condensed the plot a bit more, have it more concentrated. There didn't seem to be much progress plotwise, but it was an enjoyable read.
I made the right call in how I approached coming into this volume after a while away from the series. With the background knowledge from the re-reads, more of the subplots fall into line, making me not as confused by what was going on in the worldbuilding. I really appreciated how Zariya took the time to hash out how deeply tied the Gallands, werewolves, and government are. It casts doubt on all corners. There are sympathetic parts to each, but which party is the lesser evil? My vote is werewolves. Dominic, with his role in the plot (now that it's known), is committed to poking out the hypocrisy everywhere. With more time with him, I imagine Coyote will continue to be more engaging.
Less time with the romance was also nice. In touching upon how Coyote's relationship with Keifer has developed and prepping for the next step in the werewolves' plan, we're able to see more of the side characters as people and not as solely filling up the page. The two scenes with Schneider specifically revealed more to his persona than what we've gotten so far (I liked it). When I got to the romance, I liked how Coyote and Marleen are more tender with each other, but the thought process in getting the two together was sus. IMO, it would have been stronger to build up their time together with Marleen's house arrest rather than sexual urges eventually taking over. We don't want any more open doors (iykyk).
Uncover the gripping romance between Marleen and Lili. Incompatible worlds clash in a deep and emotional love story. This story boasts captivating chemistry, well-crafted art, pacing and a very enjoyable melodramatic storytelling reminiscent of Ranmaru Zariya’s previous work, Birds of Shangri-La.
Overall thoughts This is exactly the kind of sappy and melodramatic romance I’m here for. The tender chemistry between Lili and Marleen, their longing gazes, how even a hug conveyed so much passion and love… I loved it. I loved everything about this story—from the side cast to the main characters and how we shouldn’t take things at face value.
Who is this manga for This one is for fans of forbidden romance with a side of lupine pack structure! Melodrama, angst, earnestness… it has all of the good stuff.
Was so nice to be reading Coyote again, it’s been so long since I read the last volume. Thankfully though I was able to jump back into it and fall in love with these characters all over again.
The more I read the more this feels like a Romeo and Juliette style romance. Hopefully this story ends with a happily ever after though lol.
I loved the scene of Mimi talking about Coyote and Marleens relationship, and how Coyote himself is proof that humans and werewolves don’t have to hate each other. Also just love Allen in general, truly one of the best characters.
Next volume is going to be the climax I think, makes me worried for everyone. Will Marleen and Coyote be safe? Will Coyote go against Kiefer’s plan to take out the Gallands? Gahhh it’s so stressful lol, and sadly we may be waiting a while before we find out. I can’t wait for it though!

This series is just getting better and better! 😩 With each volume I fall even more in love with it.
Coyote and Josh make me feel so soft and mushy 😭 They love each other so much! Be still my heart 💖 Josh is still extra when it comes to sex, but we forgive it cause it’s stupid BL bullshit. No one feels hurt by the intercourse by the end, and this is ultimately what matters.
As for the plot (because this does actually have one!), things are getting serious. It’s down to the wire here with the tensions between the werewolves and humans escalating more and more. It leaves Coyote and Josh in a stalemate of sorts since Coyote is still supposed to kill Josh. However, we see how some of the people closest to Coyote see that Josh is not all that bad, and they trust Coyote’s judgement 🥺💖
I really want the next volume now! How can I just be left to wait? 😭

🇬🇧 One of my favorite yaoi discovered a few years ago. The story mixes impossible romance, investigation, spicy scene all with magnificent visuals. The pace is sometimes uneven but the story remains gripping. I can't wait to read more 🥰.🥰.
This volume is totally the “calm before the storm”.
We see more sweetness and character building in this, but the tension of the main conflict continues to escalate on the background. The next volume is likely to escalate this and I wonder if it would be the series’s last or second to last volume. Either way, the characters are just as likeable and the conflict is presented in a very realistic way where it feels like there is shades of gray to the argument.
Another wonderful volume - I’ll be looking forward to volume 5 for as long as it needs since I don’t believe it is out in Japan yet.
The Romeo & Juliet saga of werewolf Coyote and hunter Josh continues! The Gallands have started hunting again and it appears they intend to do another massacre like the one that killed Coyote and werewolf leader Keifer's families. The werewolves have been tracking the routines of the Galland leadership in preparation for an offensive. Josh is under house arrest by his family and Coyote is caught between two worlds. In the midst of the chaos, the two lovers steal a few says to be together. But what will happen when the two sides go to war? A great story with a sexy and heartfelt romance at the center. Cannot wait for V4!
Okay, lots of thoughts on this series. The art was absolutely gorgeous and I did enjoy the Romeo & Juliet aspect to the plot, but I just could not get a bad taste out of my mouth from one of the very first scenes in the first book of Josh very clearly SA’ing Coyote. I understand the whole ‘nooo donttt im not gayyy’ and i’m assuming that’s what the author was trying to do, however it really didn’t come off that way at all. While Coyote did seem slightly more enthusiastic later in the series, it still seemed to be quite a common theme with all of their sex scenes unfortunately. It was so unnecessary and really ruined what could have been an all round 5 star manga for me.

I have to admit this was probably my least favourite volume in this series so far. It is beginning to feel like the plot is at a stand still and we're spending a lot of time with no progression. This is definitely a filler volume in my opinion.
Our main characters are still unbelievably cute together and Ranmaru Zariya continues to write longing and angst really well.
The ending of this has given me hope that volume 5 should pick up again. Fingers crossed it comes out soon because I'm not seeing much news about it but I am ready for it to release right now.
I want more romance from this, but I'm also kind of invested in the conflict and seeing what will come from it. It's very detailed. The relationship sometimes feels very over the top and dramatic with their proclamations of love and desperation. Very Romeo and Juliet, which isn't fully for me. However, I do like the relationship and the writing is so good. It seems like the big conflict will be happening in the next volume, which is kind of stressful, but I can't wait to read it.
OK. After reading and devouring the 4 volumes in less than a day, all I have to say is: perfect, unique, brutal! I feel my heart racing as I finish this last volume and I can't wait to know what happens next! If your vibe involves supernatural beings, a plot capable of keeping you hooked on each page, fabulous art and incredible characters... this manga is for you!
Things are really heating up! The tension is building between both sides and we are absolutely going to be going to battle in the next volume!! Especially with that cliffhanger! I am actually kinda worried for like everyone! Like I know this is going to be a happy ending and we got the illusion of what Josh and Coyote's lives could be like which was hella sweet but STILL!!!!
Otro tomo soberbio.
4.5* Somehow when I binged the first 3 volumes, I never read the 4th. The only downside to this series is the plot is very extensive. This volume was very word and explanation heavy. It sets up great for the next volume and ends on a terrible cliffhanger!
Was not expecting that cliffhanger for some reason I thought this series was finished 😭 but WOW the art is so beautiful & I’m genuinely so so nervous about the plot rn. Cannot wait for the continuation.
