My life as a vampire is pretty routine. Go to my bartending job, find an unsuspecting human customer to feed on, glamour them to forget, go home, sleep, repeat. Pretty standard stuff. Until I’m approached by a werewolf who needs my help to find his missing Alpha. As a vampire, werewolves are our natural enemies. I know I should tell him no, but something about him calls to me, and it’s not just his big, sexy body or angelic face. I want to get to know him. There’s no harm in helping him out, right?
Raphael
Shaka is not what I expect. I’ve heard he’s a vampire with a powerful tracking ability, but all I see is a gorgeous and flirty young vampire who will probably get me in a lot of trouble. How attractive I find him is one thing—his flirting is something else. I think he’s trying to shock me, but I want to do all the dirty things he suggests—and more. It will be a struggle to keep my hands off him if we work together, but I need his help. With my pack leader on the run and possibly in danger, I need to find him fast. And to do that, I need Shaka.
Raphael’s pack leader left for a reason. But why? Will Shaka and Raphael find him in time to avoid an unknown danger? Will Shaka and Raphael come out unscathed? And will they be able to let each other go at the end of it all?
I am not going to lie, I got this from GRR based entirely on that cover. Look at it, they are so cute! Now that I have admitted that, lets get on with this review.
The tropes in this one was size difference, fated mates, just about instalove, vamp feeding, and found family.
In here we have Shaka, a very small vampire who has sex appeal out the wahoo. He is also a legendary tracker who was born with magic that had nothing to do with his being a vampire as he was born with it. He is from an African country that no longer exists. He has his maker, Aleric and the family Aleric has made.
One day, this hot and massive wolf shifter Raphy (Raphael), shows up asking for help tracking his missing alpha. This starts off the beginning of a story that has everything in it from fairies, to witches, shifters without packs, to even were-witches which all comes together in a very undeniably cool resolution.
Also, in this world, wolf shifter and vamps are mortal enemies so when Aleric finds out that Shaka is mated to a wolf, he does what any other over protective and blinded by pain parent does and I am hoping this gets a resolution in a future book.
I loved the relationship between Shaka and Raphy. Shaka was the one in charge, but Raphy was still able to pick him up and carry him around.
But now let's talk about the issues I had with this one.
First off, the way this was written made it hard to actually read and get into. I tried to explain it on the mm romance discord and the closest I could get was that it was written like you expected the MCs to sound like the old detective movies where it starts out with "The dame walked into my office and I knew she was trouble.." not the actual words but the cadence. I have not read any other titles by this writer so I am not sure if this is just the way they write. I at first thought this was trying to make Shaka sounds sassy, but then it happened in both POVs. And not only that, it usually only happened at the beginning of the chapter and then it would go on and read like a normal story. Obviously I was able to get into it and enjoy it, but I was close in the beginning of stopping. Which would have been a shame.
There was also numerous spelling and grammar errors. Some you could ignore and some, like the fact that in here you would have the chapter number and name at the top of the start of the chapter and in the first sentence of the beginning paragraph. That you cannot ignore.
Regardless, I will be reading other books in this series as I gotta know about the vamp/fairy pairing and I hope that Easton and even Aleric get HEAs as well.
Tracking with the Enemy is a book I was eager to love, yet it is one of those where I was not the right audience. I’m sure many will love this one, but I was never sucked into it the way I had hoped.
Mostly, I think this was a case of the writing style not working for me. It made it difficult for me to be pulled into the story, which also made it hard to connect with the characters. While there were interesting elements in the story, I never fell as deeply for it as I had hoped. I felt distant throughout, waiting for something to hit me hard, yet it never did.
As I said, however, I think this is just one of those cases where I was not the right reader. There was an interesting story to be found within, yet I could not connect with it.
Okay, I'm not sure about this book. I liked it well enough. This is a new author to me, and I just thought I'd give it a try. I liked how the relationship between the two MCs developed. I especially liked that there was absolutely no unnecessary drama regarding the relationship. But I don't know. Maybe it was a case of it's not the book but me? It just somehow didn't grab my attention much. Also sometimes throughout the book, you could tell that the writing is still a bit new. There are some edges that will probably be smoothed over once the author has a bit more experience. Overall still a very enjoyable read, especially if you like a good werewolf/vampire story.
I will admit - I completely judged this book by the cover. How could I not when the cover design is that adorable? Not knowing anything about the book, I wanted to read it. Then I found out what it was about and made a rare genre hop from contemporary to paranormal. And I'm very glad that I did.
Tracking With the Enemy is my forst Rosyln Faulk book and will not be my last. It's the story of a vampire and a werewolf - two species that hate one another for reasons unknown to both of our MCs and the reader. (Sadly, while we get history on a particular vampire and why he doesn't like werewolves, we do not yet know why the species dislike one another in this universe.) However, they have to work together when the werewolf's alpha goes missing. Because the vampire? He's a near legendary tracker.
From page one, I was absolutely enamored with Shaka (the vampire). He was a loud and fun character who revels in the fact that he's a vampire. He also has special powers due to who he was as a human - the son of a priestess. I loved Rafael (Raphy) just as much once he was introduced and the two boys - the moment they were interacting, you just felt it.
Rosyln builds an interesting world full of interesting characters. The Queen of the Fae is more helpful in this book than she appears in almost every other book that includes a Fairy Queen, making her seem like one of the good guys who genuinely cares about other Supes. The dislike between werewoves and vampires doesn't prevent them from working together nor does it pose any risk of either of the two dying if one bites the other as it is in some universes. Other supernatural creatures are mentioned - and some introduced - in the book as well. Werewolf politics are pretty basic, basically a mythos that I grew up on.
Faulk doesn't do too much original with the mythos, though she adds her own spin on parts of it to make it somewhat different and to make it her own. Which is much appreciated.
The book has a solid mystery, not one that I solved within the first few pages. I wish the climax of the mystery had lasted a bit longer, but it still made a good showing. I also wish we would've gotten more answers about why vampires and werewolves don't get along and that we got a bit more about the other species and a bit more world building in general. But the bits we got were good and let me imagine the whole world that we were seeing.
All in all though, this book was amazing. This book roped me in and had me grinning at certain parts. It is also pretty hot - I'm just saying. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone whose looking for a cute supernatural story.
** DISCLAIMER: I recieved an ARC from GRR and this is my fair and honest review. **
This is my first book by Rosyln Faulk and won't be my last. It has a great balance of characters, plot, cheeky charm and heated moments. Shaka is different to what I was expecting, in a very entertaining way. He doesn't seem to take himself too seriously except when the situation demands it or he happens to build a deep connection with a werewolf, practically unheard of for a vampire. Raphael wants help finding his alpha and Shaka is the best at finding people, coming from old magic that magnified when he was turned. There's a spark between the two men straight away that just deepens the more time they spend together and the closer they get, creating something neither would ever have expected. I really enjoyed the plot as well. The mystery of what made Eastor, Raphael's alpha, leave the pack without a trace is something that takes most of the book to get to the bottom of, whilst interacting with a mix of supernatural characters including werewolves, vampires, fairies, witches and shifters (can change to any animal). I was surprised with the time frame of hanging around whilst waiting for clues to find Eastor, as though they weren't in a rush but everything else plays out well and feels like a natural progression for them all. I can see several other characters having their own story in the future which I'm excited for, especially a fairy who will be entertaining given the way they come across with little personality, very straight forward. A recommended read for those who enjoy a good PNR that isn't too heavy on the plot and has fun with the characters. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This was just a ton of fun to read. From the first chapter, it was just like, give me a bowl of popcorn because this is going to be a show.
For me, it hit the right tone of plausible worldbuilding without piling it on too much, while also taking the lore and tropes of vampires and werewolves and putting little twists on them. (I also liked how Shaka and Raph aren't even sure what mythical creatures are real and are open to things they previously thought didn't actually exist.) The author created a supernatural version of our world that I would be happy to spend more time in.
This book also did a great job of focusing on the couple and the immediate danger, without hitting us over the head with hints for the next book. I have a fair idea who might be featured, but it wasn't taking up loads of page space here. I found it really easy to fall into the story and be swept up in it; read it in less than 24 hours, mostly in a couple of sittings. Did I mention that it was fun? Because it's very fun. External conflict for the win!
Shaka is a vampire that is extremely good at tracking people. One night while at his bartending job he's approached by a werewolf beta to track a missing werewolf alpha. He's a natural flirt but something about this werewolf is really calling to him. No reason he can't have a little fun while he's tracking, right?
Raphael AKA Raphy is a werewolf beta looking for his missing alpha. When he decides to ask Shaka to find his alpha he isn't ready for the sassy flirt that he encounters. No reason he can't have a little fun while they're tracking his alpha, right?
This is a well written PNR, mystery, romance. Shaka and Raphy have great chemistry and Shaka is a delight to read. I absolutely loved his personality. I liked Shaka's "Daddy" Aleric and his big brother Kofax and hope to see more books in the series with them. The world and character building is good.

Tracking with the enemy is a paranormal story, a enemies to lovers, vampire/werewolf romance. Shaka is a vampire, he is a very good tracker and at night he is a bartender, one night at his job he's approached by a werewolf, Raphael is the beta of his pack and wants Shaka’s help tracking his missing alpha. I love Shaka’s flirting he is so much fun, he and Raphael connect since they meet and he is whiling to help finding his alpha. Beside what’s the harm in helping right?
Raphael- Raphy- is a werewolf beta, something happened to his alpha and he left his pack, he is desperate to find him, he even ask help a vampire -their enemy- to find him. He wasn’t ready to find Shaka adorable and so attracted to him.
This was a very good PNR mystery, I love the romance between Shaka and Raphy, they have great chemistry and I adore Shaka!!! He was a fun character. I looking forward for more of this series!!
Can't believe I am saying this, but I liked the first half more than the last part. Weird, I know. Usually the first half is a bit of a drag while all characters and the setting get introduced, but in this case, the first part was funny, sweet, exciting and the pages just flew. Now the second part.. not so much. The whole mystery got resolved rather quickly and put the whole premise in question. At least for me. There are a lot of steamy scenes in this, which is great, but also put the plot in the background. The mystery, the threat, the disappearance, it all got easily resolved and was rather meh. The humor and easy banter was missing too. It is like the story got tired, tied up all the loose ends, had some more steamy scenes and took a nap. That is it folks, story over, go to sleep. I still liked it though, mostly because of Shaka.
**I was provided an ARC of this book from the GRR for an honest review**
I absolutely loved this book! It’s my first by this author, and it’s the author’s first paranormal work. It’s about a werewolf and a vampire who team up to track down someone who’s in trouble. In their world, the two species have historically been enemies, so their adventure is unique. The two leads start out with a mutual romantic and sexual interest and discover a deeper connection. I loved the two of them together. They were both so sweet and genuine. Shaka is different from the average vampire with his fun-loving, outrageous, and friendly personality. It’s hard to believe he’s a legendary tracker. Raphael is kind and caring, the perfect match for Shaka. It was such an amazing read. There’s a promise of more in the series, and I can’t wait. I plan to reread this book many times in the future, and I also plan to see what else this author has written. I highly recommend this book!
Shaka (vampire) and Raphael (werewolf) are an unlikely pairing in all the best senses— I liked them as characters, appreciated the nuances (and sometimes the lack of nuance, and sheer over-the-top-ness) of who they were as individuals as well as how they fit together. I found the plot super interesting, the collection of tropes a compelling envisioning of familiar tropes in somewhat unfamiliar ways, and generally enjoyed the story as a whole. The writing style occasionally clunked for me— it’s trying very hard to create a certain mood/tone, and for me, at least, only *mostly* succeeding, but stylistic taste is subjective, and I did still enjoy the story, so I’d say that if the blurb appeals to you, you should definitely give this one a try.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This was a new-to-me author and I am SO glad I grabbed this book! The worldbuilding was subtle but really effective, and I really enjoyed that the characters had really interesting back stories. The characters were well written. Shaka is a fun, irreverent, twinky vamp and Raphael is a more serious but also gentle giant werewolf - their size difference is relevant because Shaka is the top but loves to be the small spoon. They are incredibly cute (and steamy) together, and I really enjoyed the little details, like teaching Raphael how to twist natural hair to keep the twigs out. The story revolves around trying to find Raphael's Alpha and resolving a magical mystery. As far as that went, it was pretty good, but there were some parts where the explanation for something happening was pretty vague. I definitely hope we're going to see a bit more of Aleric and Kofax in future stories.
What a delightful change from the usual heavy, angsty vampire vs werewolf story! My first read by Rosyln Faulk is a semi angsty, rather hot, different take on that trope. The supernaturals are not all broody, woe is me. They are just themselves, all seeming comfortable and content in their skin. The worldbuilding and mythology is subtle throughtout the story. Shaka, the baby vampire, is a bartender and a tracker (quite notorious for his ability!). Rapheal, the Beta for his pack, needs his help finding his Alpha. Oh and Raphy doesn't want the Alpha job, in fact the Alpha is doing a great job! It's just shy of insta lust but it does not feel forced and really sexy! Faulk does a super job with the size difference, age gap (fun!) and the bedroom roles reversal, again ringing true for Raphy and Shaka. We got road trips, Faeries, Shapeshifters, hair care with love, twigs, evil werewitches and good werewitches! And a Kofax, please, my dear Rosyln, we need a Clarion and Kofax story. Oh and please a HEA for Joshua and all the other Oregon wolves. Obviously I am so hoping for more stories in this world!
This was fun! Shaka, is a vampire and has a routine, that is in a bit of a rut. Raphael, is a werewolf looking for his missing Alpha. He approaches Shaka because of his reputation as a tracker. Although normally wolves and vampires are natural enemies, Shaka feels a pull to Raphael who feels drawn to him. The Alpha, Eastor, is gone and left no trace. Raphael and Shaka go on an adventure to find him. There are a few surprises and some crucial decisions that need to be made. Do they save Eastor? Do they save themselves? Great story. Very interesting family and friends. Fantastic Characters, Shaka and Raphael are funny, fun and hot! Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this book. It was such a fun read. Great world building and wonderful characters. I absolutely loved both Shaka and Raphael. They had such amazing chemistry even from their first meeting. Raphael is beta of his pack and searching for his missing alpha. He needs help tracking him down and goes to vampire Shaka, whose known for his skills as a tracker. I love the flirty, easy banter between them. It was addicting to read. The journey to find Raph's alpha was mysterious, suspenseful, and dangerous. This story was a fun adventure and I loved every page! This is the first book I've read by this author and so excited to hear it will be a series! I love Shaka and Raphy too much to let them go so soon! I can't wait until the next book! 5 stars.
I really loved this book. I got it as a review book based on the blurb, it didn’t disappoint. It has al the things I love. Shifters, vampires, fea, a love story, a HEA. And between al that a dangerous situation, a mystery, a murder, a betrayal and sex. Shaka is a vampire with a reputation as a tracker. Raphael is a werewolf and the Beta of his pack. Someone got killed on their ground and their Alfa is MIA. From the beginning there is a tension between the two of them and they turn up mated. They need al the help they can get to bring this story to a happy ending. I laughed, cried and lost a lot of sleep during the read and I regret nothing. I’m sure I want to read the rest of the series as soon as possible.
I loved the premise of this book, and would like to state that Shaka's hair deserves the title of Best Secondary Character Ever. The plot of this book was well-written, and the world-building was wonderful. Raphael is so sweet, and a perfect match for Shaka. They both have amazing personalities, and Shaka's sense of humor and sarcasm just flew off the page and made me laugh. Both characters have great relationships with their respective families (OMG Tish is too damn cute!), and the friendships they form with each other's families, and even new friends, is fabulous. This was my first book by this author, and I guarantee you it won't be my last.
Delightful parnamoral with suspense, action and fated mates. Love the world-building and the characters were well done. Solid plot and good story-line from a new to me author was a great treat.
Shaka and Raphael are wonderful together and they really are so likable that you are rooting for them from the very beginning.
This is book one of the Unlikely Mates series and i am so looking forward to the next one.
I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review.
If you're looking for a pretty lighthearted vampire / werewolf book look no further. Also gonna say anyone looking for spice is not going to be let down. Hot 🔥 This was my first Rosyln Faulk book and I really enjoyed it. I was impressed by the writing as I believe she's a pretty new author and it doesnt read like it. Seems this is going to be a series by the set up and I will definitely be excited to read another book in this world. ARC for honest review.
I loved this book so much, I couldn't put it down. Shaka was just the best character with his liveliness and sense of humor. Raphael was more serious but Shaka managed to lighten him up as the two worked together to find Raphael's alpha. The setting, the characters, the plot and all well written made for an entertaining book. I hope to see more books from this world as I will read everyone of them. Rosyln Faulk quickly became a one-click author for me.
This is the story of Shaka and Raphael. It is the first book in the Unlikely Mate's series. Please read the trigger warnings. I absolutely love this book. It is written wonderfully with fabulously beautiful characters. I love the writing style and the humour. The action, steam and mystery will keep you reading well past your bedtime. Definitely recommended.
I received this book as an Arc and I am happily reviewing it voluntarily.
Shaka is a vampire that is extremely good at tracking people. While at work one night, he is approached by a werewolf beta to track a missing werewolf alpha. Vampires and werewolves are natural enemies yet these two can't stop flirting with each other. This is a well written PNR, mystery, romance. Shaka and Raphy have great chemistry and Shaka is a terrific entertaining character to read. I loved the two of them together. They were both so sweet and genuine.
I just finished Tracking With the Enemy (Unlikely Mates Book 1/KU) by Rosyln Faulk Author. I saw the blurb and needed to read it and I really enjoyed this PNR tale...A new to me author, the story isn't overly complicated and moved quickly...wolves, vampires, fairies et al...it's a sexy, funny, light suspense, low angst well written story that had me fully engaged..I'm looking forward to the next in the series! Loved Shaka and Raphy!! 😍 Great secondary characters too...A fun, easy read!
4.5 stars. Very interesting world building for the author's first paranormal book. Great chemistry between the MCs and solid supporting characters. It read smoothly and was well balanced throughout, not a heavy or complicated story. I especially loved Shaka, the idea of a tracking vampire is intriguing and he was just so adorable. I look forward to more books in this series.
I'm not sure I can really describe how much I loved this book. Shaka and Raphael are so great together and so much fun. This book had laughing out loud one minute then one pins and needles the next. Not to mention tearing up at one point. I need more from this series and I can't wait for the next book.
Life as a vampire is so routine, work, play, feed and glamour his donor so they do not remember what happened. A werewolf is in need of help when their alpha goes missing. Vampires and werewolves are enemies so how will it all go? What if their is an attraction between them? What will happen then? Will the alpha be found? See where these two enemies will take you
There are times when you really want to like a book. Then you realize you are working at liking the book and it just isn't working out. (yeah that was bad but let's move on).
I got this book because the cover is so cute and the premise sounds like it's going to be a fun read. It didn't pan out for me. And it still needs editing.
My first book by Rosyln but it was fantastic! Well written, lovable characters and a plot that is exciting as well as a sweet relationship curve, this book has everything. Dual POV and seriously steamy, you have the perfect book! Can't wait to read the rest of the series when it's released!
