Willy is lost. New sights and new places sometimes seem strangely familiar, but he doesn't know why. Unexplainable flashbacks taunt him. Stolen by gypsies at a tender age, Willy now longs to discover who he is and where he belongs. A frightening journey by train to a new school will reveal more than he can imagine. Fragmented memories that haunt him in the present will lead to secrets of his past. If only he can remain strong and courageous through the passage!
The Lamplighter audio drama is superb! We listened to this as a family and it took us 2 evenings to finish (about an hour each night minus pausing for bathroom breaks). My children are young (9,7,5,3) and I felt the kidnapping scene was suspenseful but not scary, which I appreciated. The ending had me in tears. Family consensus was 5 stars.
This is a book I have listened to this book MANY times with Lamplighter Theatre’s Audio Drama. It is in my absolute top favourite books. The characters and story keep me every single time I revisit this precious book.
I have been looking forward to reading this book for a while. I was familiar with this story before I read it because I had listened to the audio drama. But that didn't take anything away from my enjoyment of reading it. I picked it up and was going to start reading and thought that my little nine-year-old brother might enjoy hearing the story as well. My assumption proved correct. We both enjoyed this story immensely. At the end/climax of the book he was very animated. Seeing the character arcs and the loose ends all work together ended the story enjoyably. This book points out and depicts weaknesses that we all struggle with and gives lessons that we all can learn from. It will hold the attention of all ages.
I read this book so many times and it is one of my favorites!!! I gave this book to other people and everyone else loved it as well! P.S. I've lent the book to a cousin and she never gave me the book back :( and it is so hard to find a copy!
I bought The White Gypsy at a local homeschooling convention this past Friday and finished it Saturday afternoon. Great read; the action and mystery of Willie's past kept me hooked the whole way through.
Oh my word this book you guys. I cried. I laughed. I felt all the feels. But most importantly I was encouraged/inspired to live in a way that pleases my King.
Highly recommended. My favorite Lamplighter Theater yet. 😍😍😍
"He loves us too much to allow us to hold on to that which will never completely satisfy. He releases our grip of things on earth so that we will hold more tightly to Heaven."
This one is in my top 5 lamplighter books. God's hand of providence is seen in the lives of Willie and the family and friends who surround him. The young men are challenged to "remember that in all things, small and great, God's will should be our will...be a man: bear it bravely, humble yourself, and ask God to grant you His grace."

I heartily recommend this volume - it was a great family read-a-loud.
This book was….meh. The writing was bland, and I felt very distant from the characters the entire time—I didn’t connect with them at all. The story wasn’t great, either. The dialogue was really sappy. And some of the things that happened in the book caused some raised eyebrows from me.
It was sort of a slog to get through. I borrowed it from a friend so I felt like I had to finish it lol.
I LOVE lamplighter theatre!!! They make some of the best audio drama's ever. The stories are always very good and teach valuable lessons.
I listened to this one a few years ago but after listening to it a second time it was even better. This is now one of my favorites of the lamplighter collection. Now I want to read the actual book.
{Update} Went to a homeschool convection and bought this book and a few others from the lamplighter stand. They say the book is always better, but I was surprised at how closely the lamplighter theater followed this book. Both the audio and the book are great. I really do love this story so much!
This is a very intriguing story that sparked my imagination. I loved the main characters because even though their flawed they have great integrity. Also everyone around them added the the story, even if they only made a small appearance.
It also was fun to hear my cousin as one of the students.
