I don't see any reviews for this, but I don't read a lot of contemporary fiction, and felt like this deserved a note.
I'm on a university common book committee, and this one was assigned to me. I think it's ideally, and probably intentionally, written for that purpose. Dark, witty, and clever all around, while still effectively conveying its import. Too often, contemporary authors try to get cute, either demonstrating their (lack of) creative writing chops, or they go out of their way to be controversial. This does neither, while being no less readable or enjoyable for the fact.
I usually consider quality of writing and the strength of the plot itself. The story is compelling, and well told: a 5/5 for me. The writing is probably a 4/5. It's sufficient, and not overwrought, but I wonder if the author was really trying to produce literature or, again, writing for a specific audience. Either way, good find. Worth a read. The author's name is obviously a pseudonym, but I hope to uncover more in the future.
