Author's This book contains adult content, some abuse, assault, violence, and loads of triggers. I write books how I love to read them. Dark! You've been warned. This dark romance is intended for age18+. Please read at your discretion.
Finley- I was in love with Brennen, and I had to admit, I felt as if he hung the moon.
Things weren’t always what they seemed, though.
Monsters did roam the hallways at night. They crept right into rooms when I was at my weakest.
Doors did creak open in the darkness as I lay on a cot terrified, trying to sleep.
I had to be brave for me.
For him .
I did what was asked of me.
Always did.
I had to.
When my monster came for me, I disappeared.
I allowed things to happen that I would live with for all my life.
Jordan started with a pen and paper and discovered her dream of writing. This southern Louisiana born lady, enjoys a good romance as much as she does writing them in her spare time. That is if she’s not hanging out with family and furry kids. She’s never forgotten where she came from, though. Her past is her encouragement.
An interesting and intense read! The main characters, Finley and Brennen been a couple since high school. They love each other very much, and we see life through their perspectives. As we learn about our protagonist, Fin, we learn of their tragic backstory. A stranger, Ambrose, is collecting on something owed to him and wants to collect Finley. Finley is stolen away and trafficked. Meanwhile, a druggy enthusiast, Brennan, is in medical school, but down in moral. The pair connect and that’s when our story grows. The story has a clean perspective from both sides, is smoothly paced, and avoids sticky grammar. It does cover very adult topics and should be considered before reading. If you’re looking for a splash of hard reality however, check out Choice: Sacrifice Duet Book 1, and get ready for the sequel.
Jordan Leger delivers a powerful and emotionally charged story that grips you from the first page. Choice is not your typical romantic love story. In fact, it's not a romance at all. It's raw, gritty, and unflinchingly honest in the way it tackles difficult themes and hard truths.
The writing is solid, the pacing is steady, and the characters are complex and real. It challenges your perspective and leaves you thinking long after you've turned the final page.
Definitely not for the faint of heart. Proceed with open eyes, an open mind, and a fair bit of caution. This book demands your full attention and rewards it with a story that’s hard to forget.
This book is not for the faint of heart. The MC Finley goes through many trials in her young life and as this book finishes with a sort-of cliffhanger I hope that she has a happy ending.
This story begins as light hearted love story, if you forget the prologue. But suddenly everything gets very dark and then darker still. I just can't wait to find out more.
Please check trigger warning, this book isn’t for everyone!
In the beginning of the book, we are following Finley and Brennen who have been dating throughout their senior year of high school. We see them through graduation and go back and forth on each of their POVs. I loved reading their relationship. It was caring, loving, passionate and the spicy scenes were done so well.
We learn that Fin’s father wasn’t a good man, he was in and out of their lives leaving Fin’s mom to raise her on her own. Fin worked 2 jobs trying to keep a float, but after graduation, Fin’s mom introduces her to a “friend” with a.. job opportunity..
Ambrose is a “friend” of her fathers who has come to collect the debt that he is owed.. Finley. The opportunity is presented as managing for him in his Cuban jewelry factory but it doesn’t take long until the truth comes out.
Finley is taken. Sex trafficked, enslaved, drugged, raped etc. and is under the impossible thumb that is Ambrose. And after she left the states, the heartbroken doctor to be Brennen is in a haze of school and sex and doesn’t see himself coming down from that high.
I’m irrationally mad at Fin’s mom. Knowingly or not, she all but sold Fin to Ambrose and plays the role of a concerned mother, like all of this can’t be happening. But wtf did she think was going to happen? Her beautiful, young daughter is sought out by one of her ruthful dead husbands cuban friends and wisp away to go live a fairytale life for a 2 years and then will be returned? How naive. Im excited to read the next book in the duet, hoping that Fin has something up her sleeve. Im hopeful that her and Brennen will find each other again but the odds don’t look to be in their favor.
I’m so irrationally angry for and at the characters of this book. It’s hard to describe the swell of emotions I’m feeling, but anger is the top one flying around at the moment.
At the start of the book, We learn that Finley is in a terrible situation: she’s been trafficked, she’s in a foreign country, and her existence is miserable - worse than cattle. We’re then brought to the beginning of how Finley ends up there.
She’s been dating Brennan Lapoint her senior year in high school, and they couldn’t be more in love. Unfortunately, Fin’s mother has other plans that involve “selling” her to Ambrose Rivas, a nefarious man from Cuba. Ambrose had dealings with Fin’s father, and he’s come to collect what he’s owed: Finley. And this begins her journey into misery.
We get so much of Brennan and Fin in the beginning and I love seeing them together: they’re loving, caring, and their chemistry is off the charts hot. Those steamy scenes are plentiful and done very well. Brennan is in this for the long haul, but Fin doesn’t think she’s good enough for him. I hate that she thinks so little of her worth, until it’s too late.
I am soooooo angry with Fin’s mom, and a little bit at Fin. I’m sure Ambrose used his golden tongue to spin whatever lies he needed to get his prize, and I really hope he pays for everything he puts Fin through. I want to know if Brennan and Fin cross paths again, or if things will just end tragically for Fin. I’m really rooting for them but things aren’t looking good!
I really wanted to like this book more than I did. The premise and blurb sounded interesting and emotionally intense and it was in some ways but it could have been so much more.
The trigger warning is appropriate and necessary but what I found is that this story was written as a love story that contains a subplot of human trafficking rather than a story of trafficking that brings forth a healing love-human story that results from the horror. Had the story been approached from that angle then perhaps it would have sat with me better. Alas, it didn’t.
The main characters had some great moments but also ones that felt wrong to me in terms of personality. For example, at one point the main male protagonist says something to his buddy that was very crude, about the woman he claims to love, causing the buddy to say “tmi”. It was indeed “too much information” and way way too cheap and nasty a comment to be saying about someone they proclaim to love.
There were some minor grammar problems here and there but nothing too annoying. I personally had more of an issue with the characters sounding so young and immature, far too much so to be dealing with the events depicted in this book.
While this story didn’t have the emotional impact on me that I was looking for, I do think the author has great potential to deepen and strengthen their writing should they wish to expand their skills. And I would also readily try another of this author’s works.
Give this story a try - after all, my review is just one reviewer’s opinion.
Those familiar with the story of Rett and Cambrea know who Brennan is…but they truly do not know what he has suffered…or the only true love he ever had…this is their story~ Finley and Brennan got together a little while before graduation. He came from wealth, and she came from a family with only a mom. Her dad died and was not a very good one before that. She has plans for the future that do not include Brennan; he is not aware of that just yet. Things become railroaded with the appearance of an older man with Finley’s mom offering a job in Cuba. When things go south between Brennan and Finley, she decides to take him up on his offer~ As you read through this book, it will cover a period of months into years~ This woman who loves Finley more than anything will sacrifice herself so he and her mother may live~ He will never be over her and she will never be over him. There will be one thing in her life that becomes even more important than Brennan…and for that, she will sacrifice EVERYTHING! This book brought out tears and so many emotions…I truly thought Cambrea’s story was hard to read…wait until you read Finley’s~ Be prepared to experience a gamut of emotions~ Another EXCELLENT read by Jordan Leger.
Choice is not for the faint of heart. With that said, it's def worth the read if you can get past all the trauma and abuse that Finley had to succumb to.
Sometimes, we'll do anything to keep our loved ones safe. And that's exactly what Finley had to do to protect Brennen, the love of her life. Threats, lies and deception, is what monsters use to keep their pets from betraying them. How long can Finley keep up this ruse before time runs out?
I can't wait to read book 2 in this series to find out what happens next. I'm so hoping that Finley and Brennen find their happily ever after.
Firstly heed the authors warnings as this isn’t a story for everyone. Secondly when is book two being released as this was an excellent read and I need more.
Finley and Brennans story has pulled me through the wringer. I felt as if I was going through so many emotions while reading this. Like seriously how can Finley even think of speaking to her mum after what she did. I was also in awe with Finley at how strong she is.
I’m really hoping these two get their happily ever after but I won’t know until book two drops on my kindle.
You need to heed the disclaimer in the beginning. What Finley goes through is heart breaking. What is sad is this is not just a fiction book, this happens in the real world. Jordan's books are always so well written and she does pull at all your emotions. She pulls you in and makes you feel, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but nevertheless, her books are engrossing.
I read this in one sitting. I fell in love with Finley from the start and her traumatic story is heart breaking. Can't wait to read book two where hopefully she finds her happily ever after.
Ambrose is a, oh I can't cuss can I? I love Bren. I love Fenn. I can't wait to see what happens next, and if I'm right about why Ambrose hates her so bad. I just want to see her get every ounce of revenge she deserves to lay on Ambrose. Can't wait to see how she and Boddie get away. Read the triggers if you have any.
