This book was released when Merv Hughes was at the peak of his powers, both on and off the field. It is a tongue in cheek, "I don't take myself too seriously" behind the scenes look at the life of a test cricketer. It contains a few insightful observations of the world he experienced on his travels, but only a few...this is first and foremost a fun read. It's funny and interesting. Personal anecdotes from sporting champions are fascinating and there's a few in this book. I might be biased, I am a huge cricket fan, but I really enjoyed Merv: My Life and Other Funny Stories.
Merv Hughes is in fine form in this book, written in Merv's typical 'yobbo' style. Any book that declares on the back cover that the stories in this book 'are all true, except for the ones that are completely made up' is always going to be interesting to say the least. Definately worth picking up.
