I seriously loved this book. For a book that was so short, I did not expect it to have extremely well developed characters with very witty banter and some action that gets your heart racing- especially for such small town.

Ginny or "V" as she is now known and Nick have a past- one that didn't end well when the fear of small town life forever took hold of Ginny and told her to get out as quickly as possible. Determined to prove to her boss that she can be more of a hard-hitting journalist, Ginny takes on the assignment of showing the world the true face of a small town police department. Thinking she will be on this ride along with her uncle, she gets thrown for a loop when it's her ex that picks her up for this adventure.

Nick is mad- he was as happy as could be with life until Ginny ripped that happiness away by leaving seven years ago. He views this ride along as a chance to finally get the answers his heart has been searching for since she left with nothing more than a goodbye in a text message. What he doesn't expect is for all of his past feelings to come barreling towards the surface the minute he sees her.

Despite how short this story was, this was extremely well paced and you were never lacking in emotion, tension or action. The tension between these two really leaps off the page at you- especially from Nick. Fueled by the heat and hurt that is still between both of them, they really can grate on each other and ramp each other up that carries the story so well. I also really loved how each could feel so much hurt and anger towards the other but yet internally still love and care for each other so much. Throw in the added bonus of seeing a small town after dark and some of the insanity that ensues- and it really does- and you have a great story from start to finish that is super easy to read in under a few hours.

Audrey Carnes has done it again. Book Three in the Apple Creek Sweet Romance Series has received a full five shining stars for a short, fully developed, and laugh out loud wonderful novel. Yes, I did say a short novel for an 80 page story because at no point in her book did I feel as if something was missing. It’s very unusual to find a short work this well paced and constructed. Usually these types of romances leave me feeling as if I have missed chapters in the narrative’s development or I feel the story is being told to me rather than being invited in to watch the romance unfold. However, Carnes’s style is holding true in this book and I was delighted to watch as Capt. Jason of Apple Valley PD and Caroline, the Annoying Defense Lawyer and bane of the PDs existence, begin their fake romance as a part of Caroline’s Mayoral Campaign. True rivals, Jason accepted this role to sabotage her campaign from within, but it will come as no surprise to Rom Com Lovers that once he sees the real Caroline his plans fall apart and we are treated to great tension at the Police Station as Jason becomes Caroline’s most vocal supporter and future First Husband.

Although a stand alone, self contained story that can be read out of order to get all the humor and really get the small town feel, I suggest reading Ride Along for Love first because not only will you follow up on V and Nick’s story, but you’ll have already met and seen the dynamics of the supporting characters. This is a fully developed story and I was fine following this without having read book 1 -- yet 😉

I received this as an ARC from the author for a fair review.

Thank you to the author for a free copy in exchange for an honest review!

It’s a bit awkward wearing a “Defund the Police” shirt when going for a ride in a cop car. It’s even more awkward when that cop is your ex-boyfriend, who you dumped 7 years ago. Over text. It’s going to be a loooong night.
Despite the long night for Virginia and Nick, this book is about 40-something pages. If reading Stuck with Santa was like drinking hot chocolate, this book is like a lemon pound cake. Sweet with a tang, and gone all too soon!

Hilarious and sweet!

V has come home to write an article for her job but doesn't expect her ex to be involved. Nick was her highschool sweetheart she left with a break-up text and now she's forced to spend all night with him. However, time has a funny way of digging up old feelings.

This was a cute and short read. I love the way the characters come together despite the time they spent apart and their differences. The character arcs felt fleshed out despite the length and I loved the action at the end!

Overall, this is a book you should read when you need something light, funny, and short for a little pick me up.

I love this story, it was so fun. V and Nick are so cute, they have a broken past but when they spend time together bring on the angst as they try to figure this out. When they finally talk about the past, that tugged at my heartstrings. This is one that will have you hooked from the beginning to the point you will want to read it in one sitting. My first time reading Audrey Carnes but definitely not my last.

It was a very charming story

I like the characters even though the girl was Selfish in my opinion. No room for compromise which is adults we know we need to do. And the ending complete to me. But the interactive between the various characters and the people man with his naked oily self made me laugh.

This is book 2 of the Apple Creek Sweet Romance Book Series but it's a standalone & you will not feel lost without having read the first. But, if you like short holiday romances, then you should read Stuck with Santa: a second-chance, small-town, sweet romance. The synopsis tells you what to expect. It's a great & short high school exes second chance dual pov romance.

Ginny, or V as she likes to be called but Nick refers to her as Ginny throughout the story so I will too, has a good sense of humor. Readers will chuckle reading her thoughts & words. She's also smart & that will be shown more towards the end of the story. Nick is still understandably hurt by Ginny's way of handling their breakup, but he doesn't take it out on her too much. All he really cares about is getting answers, including if she also still has feelings for him.

Though they do clash in the beginning, I like that it didn't take very long for them to be honest with themselves & each other. The story may be short but the way their reconciliation is handled well. My greedy self wouldn't have minded a chapter or two more at the end but it's fine regardless. There is even a bit of action too. It's a novella you will definitely like.
