Late 200s AD. Rome, though a shadow of its former glory, is still the most powerful city on earth. Into this metropolis comes a lost and lonely boy, whose dark past and uncertain future could lead to either tragedy or triumph. His journey takes him from the lowest pits of slavery to the promise of being the Emperor’s adopted son. Though he has all the riches and glories of the world in his grasp, his newfound faith in God promises him eternal life…though it may cost him everything to obtain it. Based on the true story of four St. Pancras, Sts. Nerius and Achilleus, and St. Domitilla, this story traces their lives, their struggles, and ultimately their triumph over death.
I absolutely loved this book! The writing was so immersive that I felt transported into the story and genuinely upset whenever I had to put it down.
It offered a beautiful and engaging way to learn about the saints, bringing their daily lives and faith to life in a way that felt personal and real. Even though it wasn’t entirely factual, it was easy to imagine that this is how they may have truly lived. The portrayal of the martyrs was especially powerful and helped me better understand what true, steadfast faith looks like.
This book resonated deeply with me, especially as someone who has recently come to faith. I found myself relating closely to St. Pancras, which made the experience even more meaningful. It didn’t feel like just a story, but like I was walking alongside these saints as friends.
Thank you, Father Gill, for such a beautiful and inspiring book filled with love, hope, and faith. God bless. 🙏✝️🤍
