I never considered myself a groupie until I discovered Rhage, a masked metal band that's quickly taking over the rock music scene. Now, the lead singer, Sebastian Alex, is all I can think about.
When I get the chance to meet him backstage at a concert, I don't expect to catch his attention, but that's exactly what happens. He notices me, and doesn't let me out of his sight.
As excited as I am, I'm also terrified. There's something dark and mysterious lurking beneath the mask he wears for the world, something sinister and dangerous that he's hiding.
Is unveiling his secret worth risking my life, or is the mystery better left unsolved?
Rhage is book one in the Monsters of Metal series by R.K. Pierce. This is my first book by this author. I love rock star romance and when you mix that with some smexy monsters, I said heck yes!
Niki Porter is twenty four years old. Niki loves music but as soon as she heard the new, upcoming band, Rhage, she’s been obsessed. Especially with their lead singer, Sebastian Alex. It’s all she can think about. And when an opportunity to see them in person at a concert with the possibility of winning a back stage pass comes along, she’s all in.
The band, Rhage, is a heavy metal band and the five band members wear masks to keep their identities completely hidden. No one has ever seen their faces. Niki doesn’t know why but she just knows she has to meet Sebastian. And when it finally happens, and he actually singles her out to talk to, it’s everything she ever dreamed of.
But, there is something different about these men. Niki’s infatuation keeps her mind on other things. But, when the truth is finally revealed, Niki knows she needs to get as far away as possible. Only, something inside her keeps saying, stay!
This was pretty short. I admit the beginning was a little slow. But after things started moving along, I got invested. I definitely liked hearing about the extra “abilities” that Sebastian has! And there was one particular scene that was really intense! The next book will feature the twins in the band, Daire and Steele in Riot. This will be a MFM Monster Rockstar Romance. I’ll be starting it in about five minutes!
My metal heart is tickled pink by a monster rockstar romance
I don’t think there has been another book like this one and that makes it special. It really made me nostalgic, thinking back on the times pre-covid when me and my partner would go to concerts darn near every week. They were where we fit in best. So this book felt like a hug, very comforting.
It was steamy af and didn’t rush into the I love you’s. I always appreciate that in novellas, I don’t need confessions, I just need to believe that the MCs can eventually get to a point sometime in the future where they say them, and I felt that with Niki and Sebastian.
I do feel this was too short. It needed some more development in the plot or relationship, just to give it that little extra something. I honestly would have liked to see this as a RH with the whole band. It def could’ve been pulled off.
Rhage is a Monster Rockstar romance! It’s spicy and perfect for our monster romance lovers! Throw in a rockstar and a VERY special peen this book is 🔥🥵 Like all R.K. Pierce books the FMC is a badass that I just love and her MMC well HOT HOT HOT but also has stuff below the surface that is intriguing and keeps you guessing!
R. K. Pierce is amazing with character building and story building so I am not surprised this one was no different. It took a minute for me to get in to the story but I like reading from a man’s POV instead of the females POV and it took 4 chapters to get to Sebastian’s POV. But man he was hot 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 Niki (the female lead) was great too!
I love how R.K. Pierce can make you feel the characters feelings. When the FMC was anxious I was anxious, when she was happy I was happy, and when she was REALLY happy (if you get my meaning 😉) I was REALLY happy! That sex scene 🫠….I have no shame in saying I re-read it 3 times over. The tension between MMC and FMC is wonderful and hot! I love the originality of the monster (I don’t want to say issues but I am lacking the right word I want to say without giving too much away) the MMC has.
You know that instant need the MMC has for the female and he describes it, yep that did it for me. Not to mention the friendship he had for his band mates. I can’t wait for the next book!!! Please, please, please do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK!
I got an ARC of this book and I really enjoyed it. I like this take on a rockstar romance and I love that the series is gonna be monster based. You can never have enough monsters!!
I appreciate the look at how a die-hard fan would act to get a meet-n-greet with their fav band. Pretty legit. I’m really glad it had dual POV’s, I always appreciate seeing the situation from different perspectives. The author did an excellent job showing the different unique personalities of the characters.
I also gotta say I love her take on demon junk! It was a new fancy p**n I haven’t seen before and I am HERE for it.
I feel like Oliver Twist right now. All like please ma'am can I have some more because as great as this story was it was just not enough. I need like a 7 book series and a TV show because I am IN LOVE. With both of the main characters actually which is rare for me, but I just love them both so much. She's a whole real person, not just a collection of traits and mannerisms that make it so easy to figure out what any character will do next. And Sebastian is an actually monstrous monster. The character exploration and development was so darn good for something so short and there's a good beginning to world building to explore in future books.
Furthermore to my initial ranting the best friend dynamic in this book was to die for and you could just feel how much they loved each other which was beautiful. It's a weird thing to notice but I also really loved the name of the coffee shop! The main thing I noticed though was that i could feel this book. You can really feel what the main character is feeling and the anxiety and excitement are so contagious that I was hopping around the room at more than one point.
As for a rating, it's a 5 star read for me. I've read 10 other books this month and this one is by far my favourite. This author is always a must read for me and has once again knocked it out of the park. I knew I'd love the story here but it exceeded all expectations I had for it and I can't wait for what comes next in this story.
This book reminded me of every concert I’ve been to and the feeling of being awed by a band’s presence. I loved that and I am totally here for a mysteriously masked band. 😮💨
The FMC, Niki, is sweet and desperate to meet her favorite band especially the lead singer, Sebastian. I thought she seemed a little naive at times but she also felt relatable too. Who wouldn’t be totally excited and nervous to meet their favorite band?! Sebastian was instantly taken in by Niki’s bright energy. He is dangerous and Niki has no idea how much his skull mask truly represents him. 💀
I enjoyed reading Sebastian’s inner struggle over Niki and how his feelings for her evolved. She wasn’t just an energy source for his demon anymore.
There was a lot of time spent in the beginning over the mask contest and I would’ve like more scenes of them together as a couple instead. Overall, this was a good quick and steamy read for any monster book lover. I hope to read more about the band! How about the demon twins?? I get MFM romance vibes from them 😏 🙏🏻
Thank you for the ARC! *edit: the author made some minor changes and the story was lengthened some. It does *not* end abruptly anymore as I wrote in my review a few days ago. I’ve edited that out. Love the book!
(4.5 ✩) I was living for the situation for this one, I love a good rockstar romance any day of the week but the idea of masked demons who feeds off the energy from their concerts… tell me more.
I was pulled right in 🪢 This was a quick read made even quicker by the fact I couldn’t put it down; I was intrigued by the entire band, especially the twins - they need a book and they need it now because I want it.
I picked up this book on a whim, I like rockstars, turns out I might also like demon monster rockstars with special equipment, but I’m gonna need to finish this whole series in order to make my final decision 😉 BRING ME BOOK TWO!
I don’t understand why people like this so much. I only pushed through because it was short. The characters weren’t interesting, the dialog wasn’t good, and the reactions unbelievable. None of it worked me.
I love this premise. Masked demons on Earth fueled by the energy their metal music creates in humans living in anonymity until lead singer, Sebastian Alex, finds the one woman he may be willing to risk everything for? Yes, please. I’m always down for a good rockstar romance and the mystery and intrigue in this one, combined with the most unique peen I’ve ever read about, pulled me right in.
”He’s a dapper demon daddy, and though he has no idea who I am—and probably never will—I would do anything for the opportunity to meet him. Fight for it, steal for it. Hell, maybe even sell my soul for it.”
Niki wasn’t quite the FMC for me, though. I wanted to love her so much and there were definitely moments in which I did, but there were a few times her unhinged aura (which I am totally here for!!) crossed over into immature and left me wanting more from her. I know this was only a novella, but I was really just itching for a touch more character growth on her end.
”I’m a monster, Niki. A cold-hearted monster who cares about nothing and no one other than his own survival.”
Sebastian, however, stole the show for me. I love a good asshole and I love it even more when they’re taken down a peg by their own desires and the realization that someone else matters to them. I loved watching his restraint unravel and the inner turmoil he felt for wanting Niki as more than just a meal.
The whole vibe of this book was really great and I loved Joseline as a best friend. I’m also fascinated by the twins and I’m really curious to see whose story we’ll be getting in Riot. Overall, a good read and I’ll definitely be picking up book 2.
This is my first time really reading a rockstar groupie romance, and I think I'm putting in my bucket of themes to avoid along with mafia and biker romance. The FMC was much too insta-lust and naive for my taste, and I didn't really feel emotionally invested in the main romance.
I think (at least for me) that this author in general has issues with character development. By the time I finished the book, while I understood that every member of the rockstar was some type of , it was not sufficiently explained why they absolutely had to be on Earth to harvest human energy or why their names and species had to be so secretive. The FMC was basically a shallow rockstar groupie - nothing was explained about her backstory other than her relationship with her best friend, and it was even mentioned that she had no idea who the band was until ~3 months ago. The main monster MMC personality was not consistent - on one hand, he was willing to immediately the FMC at first sight, but later he felt guilty that she almost got ? We didn't even get a fated mate excuse (at least that I recall) - the MMC just suddenly decided that this human was special and worthy of being protective and caring over.
I don't like this genre enough to continue with any further books in the series, and I don't really plan on reading any more books by this author (other than A Monstrous Claim Part 2 if that ever comes out) due to the ambivalence I feel about this author's writing.
Tropes: - monsters - rockstars - instant attraction - happy for now
After losing a contest to win backstage passes to see the masked metal band Rhage and the object of her obsession, frontman Sebastian Alex, Niki has an insane stroke of luck when another concert goer has to leave due to an emergency and gives her his pass.
Niki can’t believe her dreams of meeting Sebastian and his band mates are about to come true, and when she finally gets to meet him she doesn’t expect him to take an interest in her. Too bad Niki doesn’t know the band she’s obsessed with is full of monsters, and that Sebastian’s attraction to her starts out a bit nefarious.
I’ll be honest I didn’t know I needed a monster rockstar romance, but apparently I did & I need more!
So, reading the blurb, I wasn't 100% sure how I'd feel about this book. However, I wanted to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did! I couldn't put it down. It was a busy day yesterday, but I made myself stay up half the night to finish it.
I absolutely loved the writing, story, and characters. I still have SO many questions though. Can't wait until the next book in the series comes out to hopefully learn more about the mysterious masked demons! 😈
I for sure needed more Niki & Sebastian time at the end, but loved how they were both instantly drawn together. All the talk about Niki being so energized for him was actually making me more energetic! Haha I was 100% feeling the characters.
P.S.- R.K. Pierce made an announcement that she was adding a little more to the end and dropping Sebastian's real name!!!! So I'll have to do a reread once she sends out the updated version. Super excited for more scenes between them!
*I did receive a free arc copy for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this monster rockstar romance! It was fun and hilarious right from the start. It was a bit of a slow burn, but the angst was really hot and when we finally got them together it was nice and spicy. (Sebastian's unique anatomy was so unique, I loved it.) RK also updated the ending since I read the ARC and I loved the additional chapter and the epilogue.
I really loved Niki. Off the bat she is a little wild and you can tell she has this bright aura and energy about her. She's a little reckless in her quest to meet the lead singer of Rhage and it makes her feel a little unhinged at times. It's never confirmed, but I wondered if we didn't have a fated mates situation going on with both her and Sebastian's actions.
It definitely got a little dark at the end and gave us an incredible touch her and I'll unalive you scene along with a little cat and mouse action. I really loved the whole vibe of the book and can't wait to read more about the other characters, including Niki's friend, Joseline. I'll definitely be grabbing Riot when it releases!
Rhage is a steamy, angsty novella with an obsessive human who wants to meet her favorite band, that she doesn’t know is full of monsters. Kinda HFN ending for the human and lead singer but it was a great first book in the series.
As a lover of rock music, and Monster smut, this lovely little book hit all my happy points. Living through Niki’s eyes for her view of Sebastian Alex made ME have a full crush on him. I loved her energy, I loved how his feelings grew for her, and I LOVED the slow burn, especially on Niki’s end waiting for something to happen.
Wow. I loved this book. **Warning, this book did have some darker themes and is worth checking TWs** I did not know what to expect from this book having gone in blind to it. But I am so glad I got the opportunity to read this. I need Sebastian in my life, and I really hope we get more books for Rhage. I want to know more about the Imps 😁
OHHHHHH MY GAWD…. This is everything that I didn’t know that I needed in a monster romance… I’m not usually one for rockstar romances, but you have changed my mind! I just…have no words for how much I loved this book! & that review about the peen was so right…now only if humans came equipped like that- insert blush face here 🤩
This was FANTASTIC! The descriptions of the energy you feel at a rock concert are so electric and so accurate! It makes you believe that sometimes it isn’t “just” a rock concert! The characters are so rich and beautifully fleshed out and the love story is both innocent and absolutely NOT innocent simultaneously. You will LOVE this story!!
Niki & Sebastian. A crazy fan & a demon metal rockstar. I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about this book. I was into it the very first chapter. What is not to love about a demon rocker with a monsterrrrr, you know?? I need MORE! Way to go R.K Pierce! I can’t wait to see what you have coming next!!
The forbidden love vibe mixed with the close proximity 🔥🔥 but what really did me in was the fact that Nikki weakens him in a way, or makes him softer! I loved this book! The story is great but it feels like it’s just getting started! We definitely need more!

Girl. So much 🔥 If you don't read this book, you're missing out! The storyline is super relatable and makes me think that's how I'd react to meeting my favorite bands. The FMC is so damn cute and shy at first, but breaks out of her shell. The spicy scene is 🥵🥵 I need more of these characters!
I received an ARC for this particular monster romance, and I am HOOKED!
While love a good quick read, i struggle with not having enough of a developed plot and this did not disappoint! As always read the TWs! Our FMC and MC were both strong and well thought out. The push and pull from the couple were hot! Spice is 5/5 and that special peen is what I am here for!
Do you remember when you went to your first concert? Or you finally, finally got to see your favorite artist or band in person. Remember all the excitement? The energy pumping through the crowd and you as you wait to hear them play? Then it's time to RHAGE!
Rhage is every fan's dream.. R.K.PIERCE captures the emotion and excitement perfectly. I felt as if I was there experiencing the band, just as our FMC Nikki. Nikki is a super fan of the band, but the lead singer, Sebastian is her favorite. All she wants is to capture his attention if only for a few minutes. Maybe go backstage and say hi.. you know the ultimate goal for any fan. Except, she gets more than an autograph.......
This book is a slow burn and HFN. You get the tension and build up, but we don't get the monster peen until later towards the end. I gave 4⭐️ due to length and not enough spice compared to her other books. I wanted more scenes with Sebastian's 🐓
Now let's talk about that! R.K., girl we need more about Sebastain's 🐓. It sounds delightful 😊.
This was a slow but good start in her Rockstar Romance series. I'm eager to see who we meet in Riot, the next book in this series.
I really liked the idea of this book. Monsters hiding their identities behind masks so they can hide in plain sight until one of them finds a woman who they will risk it all for, sign me up.
But I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Niki’s surface level obsession, and sulking seemed more fitting of a teenager than a woman. But I think her enthusiasm and vitality are what drew Sebastian to her.
Sebastian seemed so pretentious and I was glad when an oblivious human woman caused him to break all his rules. It seemed to humble him and made him more likeable. Sebastian also had some of the most unique anatomy I have read about!
I know this was a novella and therefore short but I wish we had learned more about the band members’ history and long term goals. I’m also dying to know what band members’ autographs were like since no one knows their names.
I picked this book up by the cover. I thought it looked awesome. The title also intrigued me. Never ever read a monster rockstar so why not try it out?
I gave it three stars and here is why. The storyline was okay. I felt like it was a rockstar romance based on Ghost and Slipknot. Turns out, it was inspired by Ghost. That was awesome. But the story just went to fast for me, atleast the middle part. The book, was, I believe around 200 pages but I feel like it could have been way more. That is why I hardly felt any connection with the characters. I would have loved to read about the background of Sebastian and the other band members. Or how the relationship between Sebastiaan and Niki would have been developed but know it was a rush. To bad because it could have been great. Not saying it was a terrible story but I would have loved read more about them.

This was so fun!! 🤩 I loved this idea of this band of Rockstars that never show their faces because they’re not actually human. These guys are potentially nightmare fuel but have an adoring human fanbase powering them up every night.
It was fun to see how Niki’s obsession with Rhage and Sebastian in particular played out. I really like Sebastian’s whole vibe as an unlikely hero. He’s one of those possessive protective types that I love even if he’s a bit morally grey. Ohh and he has special equipment 😻 haha!
I will say there were moments the story dragged a bit and I felt like I was waiting forever for that first kiss but the anticipation pays off! Love this author’s style of writing and character building! I want more!
Niki wants to see her favorite band and she’s entered a contest to make a mask for one of them. If she wins, the band member will wear the mask on stage and she gets tickets & backstage passes to meet them. She doesn’t win, but thank god for her best friend and her lucky stars, she gets both things. When she meets Sebastian it’s surreal. They can’t stop looking at each other, it’s actually romantic in a meet your monster way. Then he invites her to the next concert, tells her to come alone and she does. When these two get together it’s hot. Yeah he might be a demon, but this story is hot hot hot! It reminded me of that movie, The Weight of Water. I honestly couldn’t put this book down, I’m giving it five stars and highly recommend it. I hope there are books about the other guys in the band coming soon.
