Hiro Mashima (Jap: 真島ヒロ) is a Japanese manga artist.
He gained success with his first serial Rave, published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2005. His best-selling work, Fairy Tail, published in the same magazine from 2006 to 2017, became one of the best-selling manga series with over 72 million copies in print. Mashima began the currently ongoing Edens Zero in 2018.
Fairy Tail won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen manga in 2009, and Mashima was given the Harvey Awards International Spotlight award in 2017 and the Fauve Special Award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival.
Cool fights but cooler reveals as we learn more about Shiki and Rebecca's past and the more interesting one is Shiki's as we learn more about the connection between Ziggy and Shiki. Also Ziggy's plan was just plain creepy as we learn what he has been collecting on the planet all of these years and while their is an explanation for why he did this, it still feels more like it was just meant to be shock reveal. But I am really worried about the Shiki reveal as it raises a lot of questions and I do feel that if it is not handled properly it could be very messy.
Other than, THANKS Crunchyroll commenters, I have been spoiled. Specifically for the last page (not counting the author's note/adverts/copyright page). Ugh. I guess it's not a super big surprise, since I've seen that twist before (specifically in ). I guess now I have to wonder how this will all resolve, with THAT problem having come to light.
Actually, it's interesting that Mashima mentions (in the author's note) having tried to write a mystery once (like, I assume an actual detective thing, not like, "Why is Ziggy trying to annihilate the entire human race?"), but a friend immediately refuted it as impossible. Now I want to read that!
Recommended for fans of the series, newcomers will be SO LOST and also spoiled should they go back and read prior volumes.
With how slowly these come out translated, I feel like I forget what happens in the book before it sometimes. Then kind of remember some of it. The ending to this one, I'm not sure if I like or not, because a part of me felt all along that this is what was happening, and because of that I kind of groaned like "really?".
Still a good series, I hope to finish it when it wraps up.
4/5 A lot is revealed in this volume. We get a a huge Ziggy reveal and new information on Shiki and Rebecca as the plot starts to come together. We also get a Ziggy V Shiki brawl and Holy taking on the titan Deadend Crow. A lot of stuff happening at the same time. I’m enjoying it.
Read 11/24/25 Shiki, Ziggy, and Nox on the cover of volume 23.
