The Valmiki Ramayan gives a no-holds-barred view of its characters and therefore, can be called a credible source of information about these larger-than-life people from ancient India. Taking inspiration from the original bard, this book intends to bring out the character of each protagonist in the way they had first been portrayed, without glossing over their shortcomings. For those, who have never read the Ramayan before, it would introduce you to the main plot of the greatest epic of all time. For the ones who do know the basic plotline, the book endeavours to acquaint the reader with the lesser known aspects of the story, and help look at this age-old epic with a new set of eyes.

This book is a gem ! You have to read this if you want to know more about your history. The book is based on Valmiki Ramayan and the author, Dr. Vineet Aggarwal sir made sure that the facts are well researched. It does have some references to his previous three books on Maharishi Vishwamitra, Lord Parshu-Raam and King Bharat. But you'll only realise how well connected all these stories are ! The book focuses more on the pre and post events of the mainline. It is a treasure house of knowledge and unknown facts. So much so, that even the acknowledgement section at the end will teach you about the idea of Ramayan in various parts of the world. A must read for the people who are into such a genre !!!
Great book, Not only it covers the central idea, but also the path that leads to the plot and sheds light on the role performed by various characters in this grand epic before and after the great conflict which help mould the perspective of the reader differently.
A decent book, lots of main events are covered in very short and very quick.. details are majorly included for why ram left sita after going back to avodhya
