They call me "Blade" because they don’t know my real name. And no one would ever dare to ask. I’m a capo in the Gruco Crime Family and a man who’s accustomed to going unchallenged. No one would be stupid enough to go against me… Except for the pickpocket foolish enough to steal from the familia. She’s nothing but a thief, a nuisance, but she catches my attention. She’s clever, cunning, sexy, and above all… useful. The burden of deciding her fate is thrown onto me, and it’s good news for her because I don’t waste talent. I give her a choice. Work for me… or choose a fate worse than death.

Although the title and the book cover may read dark kinky romance, this is light grey on the dark romance scale: not a lot of sex, the couple have a date, and they communicate their love.

That being said, it still packs suspenseful capers and some witty exchanges. Again, I am just absolutely gripped by Nicole’s mafia as well as bratva works! It remains violent and realistic to the mafia setting, I enjoyed mafia slice of life. A lot of mafia romances I’ve read sort of make out organized crime as alternative social hierarchy of rich folks, business interests, and arranged marriages. I like that we’re literally counting stacks in the farm, or running around on random jobs.

I truly enjoyed the fun plot. Here, Emily is a pickpocket who steals from the wrong guy. She escapes from Blade’s men, but is eventually captured. She is then sent to a bunker to await her transfer to work as a sex worker (as punishment for stealing against mafia). Her daring escapade from the bunker and ability to get one over Blade is what convinces him that she should be put to other uses for the mafia. To be honest, he has this thought cross his mind, even asks her what she can do, but he doesn't act upon it until he has a good enough reason, her proving her ability to think on her feet and outsmart folks, to vouch for her.

I love that the romance develops at a steady pace without rushing emotions or slowing conflict down. While the hero is physically attracted to the heroine, he does not let that turn into insta-love or soften him to the point where it makes the mafia seem like loosey-goosey space.

Highlights were seeing how Emily could pickpocket as she is sent on various jobs to prove her worth, and so much delightful female rage. Emily as well as Olive from Luka book in the Bratva series have this The Mindf**k series vibe: woman avenging herself against rapists.

This is the fourth book I’ve read by Cypher and I continue to be impressed by the world she has created so vividly. The Gruco Family and all its associates come alive in these books and I love how they continue to play a role in one another’s stories - just like families do.

Even though I knew this was a love story and Emily and Blade would end up together, I was still surprised by their connection. Initially he treats her pretty much like he would anyone else, but slowly he begins to understand and respect her, making all the difference. I wish we had gotten a little more background on Blade in the beginning though; what draws him to someone like Emily? What does he see in her that makes her someone he can love? Those questions are answered throughout the story, but added exposition in the beginning might make their relationship a little more believable. I would also like to know more about Emily and her uncle. I get that it was a big deal to hide from him, but knowing a little more about him and his power would heighten the element of danger. Again, we do eventually get this information, but it is almost too late to really digest.

Ultimately this story sheds light on Blade, who has been referred to throughout the series, and gives him the story he deserves. Likewise, it provides Emily with an impetus to come into her own and really explore who she is. Although the Gruco Family is made up of seemingly impossible to love men, it is amazing how they each meet their perfect mate. These unconventionally dark and exciting love stories are hard to put down and I find myself eager for the next.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "HIS PUPPET"
I found this to be a very interesting, entertaining, intense first time read by this author, with suspense, violence, danger, angst, steam, humor, twists that have you turning the pages.
Blade is head of Gruco Mafia Family he's ruthless, dangerous, powerful, when a petty theif steals from a dealer he sends his men after her caught he thinks about putting in one of the brothels.
Emily had a right start her Uncle treated her horribly on the streets she steals to survive, she's smart, sassy, strong, independant, Blade decides her talents could be put to better use, he treats her like everyone else but eventually understands & respects her, she's a fighter with a backbone.
I definitely recommend to get this interesting, intriguing, intense drama watching how Blade & Emily get close how it changes to something else & her giving her Uncle payback he deserved.
I look forward to the next book in this series "HIS PROPERTY" I'd like to read as well.

This is the kind of book you want to read with the lights on. Or not. It's dark and delicious and carries some trigger warnings. Luckily, I'm not squeamish.

Emily is a pickpocket who lives in a house full of thieves. She is paid to rob the wrong mark, and gets caught. That's where things get interesting for her. Blade wants to just be done with her, but there is something about her that just keeps him hanging on for one more day, until he falls for her. This is, after all, a romance. Emily and Blade were made for each other, and their HEA is legendary. They just get each other. I can absolutely recommend this book as being well worth the one click.

Book four in the series brings Blade and Emily's story. The author does a great job pulling you into the story and kept me glued to the pages with all of the twists and turns along the way. It's an emotional and exciting story, is well written with descriptive scenes and is a terrific read.

I can’t get enough of this series!

I have a feeling this is going to be a theme. When I think I’ve met my favourite man in the series, the next one comes along and I love him a smidge more! I loved how Blade fell in line with the ‘famiglia’’ but how he also held his own and put Emily first. Their relationship was fast, hot and amazing! I read this in one sitting and I can’t wait to get my hands on more of this amazing mafia world.

I have loved everyone of these books from this series and I really enjoyed this one. It is a slow burn but worth it. The Blade has a girl Emily steal from him. Kidnappes her and they go back and forth between each other. Need to read. And also I really fell for Victor he gets his book next.

Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Thoughts: Immediately this book had me hooked. I immediately loved the story line and the strong female lead. Something about her and how she uses people's underestimation of her to her advantage has me in awe. There were also a few scenes in this book that had me laughing just because of how badass and witty she is.

However, what really prevented me from giving this a solid 4 was the lack of chemistry between the characters. At first it was just between Blade and Emily, but then I noticed with all the other characters I felt none of them had any chemistry between each other. You told me they were friends, but they didn't feel like it. Usually books have small moments where characters interact that develop a known sense of friendship, but I feel like this book lacked those moments. Also, those moments lacked a ton between Blade and Emily to the point I asked myself "how do they even love each other?" They are barely around each other, let alone have any kind of interaction with each other in a meaningful way that shows they have chemistry. The overall relationships in this book really lacked chemistry and that is mainly the reason why it got brought down to a 3. The storyline and the overall direction the book went was awesome, but the characters and their relationship to each other were severely lacking. I think having more little moments in a book where characters interact and show off their personality and show the dynamic between other characters would benefit in the future.

Edit: Also, I am not sure if this is because I have a digital copy, but trigger warnings would be best in the future. I don't necessarily have triggers but a lot of the topics in here could trigger other readers. Also, one scenario in general where you could sense Emily's discomfort (the scene involved restraint) and Blade just brushes it off could be slightly problematic and even made me uncomfortable, and not in a good way.

Wow! This was definitely another interesting read in the Gruco Crime Family. This time we have Emily who has run away from home and playing the role of a petty thief to get by. However, she makes a wrong target and falls into the Crosshairs of Blade, the capo of the Gruco Crime Family.

I loved Emily's character. She has been through a lot growing up and had no one she could trust. She is resourceful, sneaky, and coy, all in the name of survival and remaining anonymous, and she often outplays her targets, which impresses Blade. Emily does have an honest character though and a vulnerability that, after some time, isn't afraid to share with Blade, and she does begin to openly communicate with him. Even her interactions with Victor, one of the hitman in the family who appears dislikable, also makes him appear somewhat likable as the story progresses.

Blade is definitely more caring than he first appears. Even though he has a ruthless side to him, and some gory details that gave him his moniker, when it comes to Emily, he often comes to bat on her side and shows her the respect that she deserves. He also isn't afraid to defend her or his actions, and even when he takes her side, he also ensures the familia remains protected. He is patient but also will let others know just how he feels about them.

The story definitely focuses on the burgeoning relationship between these two and how they feel about one another. We see Emily's past come rearing back though when truths are uncovered. This definitely added to the suspense in the story and kept me turning the pages. There was one side character who we don't learn the fate of but did play a pivotal role in leading to the main conflict, so I wonder if it will be addressed in Victor's book, which I also look forward to reading (thank you, Emily for making him seem not so bad, maybe just misunderstood!).

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS!!! From page one I was engaged in the story. I loved the main characters Emily and Blade. The supporting characters were excellent. I loved Victor. It was hard not to love him. He made a friend for life in Emily and he was her friend for life. When you first read about him you will find it hard to imagine any redeeming qualities in him. But he does have them.

Emily turned out to have a spine of steel and more talent than anyone gave her credit for. She still had an innocence about her that gave her the edge she needed to be a badd#ss, kick#ss heroine. She was always honest and sincere. She owned her feelings and emotions. She was wise for a twenty-two year old. I could never imagine the pain she grew up with living on the streets since she was fourteen. Harsh. But it made her who she was today. Then she met Blade.

Blade was an extremely interesting man. In the beginning you don't know whether to believe the rumors about him or not. As you read the book you find out what is true and what is false. You also learn about his start in the criminal world and who he truly looked up to. It was kind of heartwarming when he was taken into the famiglia.

The story never wanes. Each page full of suspense, romance or dangerous action kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending was fabulous. How Emily was able to finally put her past behind her and she really cemented herself into the famiglia.

This is a must read for all mafia fans. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend.

Fleeing from a very unsafe home situation where she was abused and mistreated, Emily has learned to survive by pickpocketing. Until she tries to roll the wrong person and gets the Gruco Familia after her,
Blade is a tough, sadistic man and his name is whispered in the street. When you bother him you know one thing for sure; your life is short lived. When a young woman robs a dealer of his, he sends his men after her, but the young woman manages to get rid of them. That only pisses him off! And when she is finally found, he realizes that she will end up as a whore in one of the familia's brothels. And even though this is his intention, he realizes that he is also impressed by her 'talents'. He decides to let her live and make use of these talents. To convince the Gruco family of her abilities, he leaves her with the brothers Settimo and Lorenzo to show them what she can do. (I loved this scene and couldn't help but laugh ;-) )

On the one hand the emergence of a quick love where 2 people who distrust the world lower their shields to each other, on the other hand a lot of violence in the world in which they live. The denouement in which Emily pays her uncle for what he did to her as a child is very violent, but certainly understandable when you read what he did to her.

And yes ...... a HEA.

Wow, I couldn't put this book down, I was so hooked on their story. Blade and Emily meet when she takes something belonging to him/the Gruco family. When they first meet I thought, "wait is this their story, the two of them end up together??!" Blade is very serious and intense about his job so he's really harsh toward her. In the beginning I really didn't like him, he didn't seem to care about her one way or the other. My opinion of him did change and I liked him a little more a bit further into the story. It was different for Emily, I liked her, she's determined to take care of herself and live free of her horrible past no matter what she has to do. She's strong, sassy and so smart or maybe sneaky. The story is not a sunshine and roses story, it has a darker feel to it. There is violence and action throughout the story, during those scenes it is also very descriptive/graphic. There were a lot of pretty humorous moments in the story, mostly involving Emily and her sassiness. There are also some pretty hot scenes between the two of them, but be warned there are scenes that I found uncomfortable because in one instance she was just doing what she had to. There are also some scenes where there is rough play bettween the two of them. The story is part of a series, but you don't have to read the other stories to enjoy this story, it does enhance it though. This is Book 4 of The Gruco Crime Family Series. I have enjoyed the entire series so far. The Mafia aspect of the story is interesting as are the characters. I especially liked reading about the actual Gruco family members.

This particular book centered around Emily a thief pickpocket who stole from The Family inadvertently and now must convince her captor that she can be useful so they don't take her out. Her captor Blade works for the family and must decide her fate. Both characters have dark pasts to overcome which helps them discover how much they have in common.

I always want a HEA in any story and I don't like cliffhangers so this book met both of those requirements. It also has some character development, action, romance, steaminess and REVENGE! The only reason I couldn't give this book a five star review is that I didn't completely love Blade's character and the romance in general. Without giving anything away there were some moments when he was not on Emily's side and for her to so easily forgive him and even want to be with him was a bit far fetched to me felt more stockholm syndromy then true love to me. Although still glad they got their HEA.

What truly captivated me about this book was how Blade initially embodies everything I’d imagine a mafia capo to be—shrewd, ruthlessly cold, and utterly dismissive of Emily, seeing her as nothing more than a thorn in his side after she dared to steal from the Family. His initial indifference quickly morphs into something more calculating as he strategizes how best to exploit her unique talents. But what I found refreshing was the slow burn between them—there’s no clichéd instalove or instant lust here. Instead, respect slowly flickers to life as Blade begins to see Emily for who she really is. Emily, on the other hand, is a fighter through and through. Constantly underestimated by those around her, which she masterfully turns to her advantage. Despite their rocky beginnings, I was drawn to how fiercely Blade defends Emily, and how Emily, in turn, learns to trust him with her darkest secrets. Her backstory is nothing short of heartbreaking—surviving the streets from such a young age after fleeing an abusive home, yet somehow, she manages to retain a touching air of innocence. It’s hard to believe she’s endured so much, and yet she remains resilient. I loved the way Blade showed Settimo and Lorenzo exactly what Emily could do. Nicole doesn’t shy away from the brutal realities of Blade’s life, and that raw, unfiltered violence injects a pulse-pounding intensity into their story. At times, the action even overshadows the romance, but when the heat is on, the steamy scenes are downright incendiary, sizzling with burning passion. This is an intense, rollercoaster of a story from start to finish, and trust me, it’s worth every thrilling, heart-pounding moment!

We are back with the Gruco crime family. We got all the brothers taken care of and are now moving on to the capos in the organization. First up is Blade. Blade is Settimo's best friend. He runs the Gruco's drugs and one of his runners got pickpocketed by the Polly Pickpocket. Turns out. Polly Pickpocket is really good at what she does. She knew she had stepped into a bigger plot and had to disappear for a while. Unfortunately, she was found pretty quickly. Once found, Polly does what she does best. She tries her best to get away. When she finds her attempts futile, she convinces Blade to use her, use her skills. Blade had a soft spot for Polly because of someone taking a chance on him at a time in his life when he really needed it.

Blade and Emily, aka Polly, start spending time together and she finally tells him why she was basically living on the streets. The attraction between these two is undeniable and had been from the first meeting. This book was a little different. Blade knew what he wanted from the start and Emily was it. He was all in from the beginning. Emily is the one that had to figure out that this was real. Blade knew that Emily was his forever. Could he protect her from the real enemy?

Readers will fall in love with Emily. Blade is a sweetie but knows how to handle business. I enjoyed seeing the other side of things. Emily is the one that needed convincing. A lot of her apprehension stemmed from someone trying to find her. She did not want Blade caught up in her mess. Will she have to choose between the love of her life and keeping him safe? I am loving this series. I kinda fell in love with Blade.

This is book four in The Gruco Crime Family series and it is Blade and Emily's story and it is definitely a must read. Emily hasn't had a easy life and she has taken to picking pockets to be able to get by but when she takes something from the wrong person she lands herself in big trouble and puts a big target on her back and now she has a choice to either do what she is asked to do or well the consciences are not even worth thinking about so she doesn't really have a choice at all. Blake and the familia are not a family that you want to mess with and even though Blake is impressed with Emily's talents her fate now lies in his hands. The closer that Blade and Emily become the more there story grows into something really special and I was glad to go along on there journey and my heart broke with everything that Emily had been through in her life. This series just gets better and better with each book written and I couldn't put this book down as the twists and turns along the way is what has you turning the pages to see what would happen next and I can't wait to read more book's by this author in the future.

My favourite read in the series (so far)…

Blade and Emily were such vibrant, interesting characters and their story was edge-of-your-seat reading! Each couple in this series have been unique and compelling in their own way and this latest story, characters, just raised the bar…

Emily was a thief. A good one. Emily’s life had not been a bed of roses and she knew how the world worked. Up until this time, her skills and brains had kept her alive but she’d never crossed paths with the Gruco family – specifically Blade. He had obligations to his family and he followed the rules. They were his rules too. She, however, threatened those rules. And his peace of mind…

The uneasiness between them – her fear, his resolve – permeated the pages. Emily was scared but she talked and worked her way through every scene. She was fighting for her life and she knew it. And Blade wavered from enemy to (not quite but at least not wanting her dead) friend. The dialogue was fast and crisp and so was the whirlwind of emotion and suspense it created…

Loved it!

Nicole keeps hitting this series out of the park. They just keep getting better and better.

Emily steals from the wrong person and ends up in the sights of Blade. He has to figure out what he is going to do with her as punishment. But we know with these men in the Gruco Crime Family, once they see something they want, they take it. I loved how their relationship developed over the story. There was no going back and forth between the couple. It was hot and spicy all the way.

I knew Emily had a secret and you might be able to guess it but how Blade and Emily deal with it is *chef's kiss*. They are truly meant for each other in every way. I thought it was going to be resolved in a different way, but this was so much better! If you know, you know.

It also includes a character which is a bit of an asshat and then he becomes endearing. You want to get to know him and read more about him. This will be the next book of the series, so I don't want to give any names. Hopefully you felt the same way as I did. I can't wait to read it!

Omg what a book.
This is emily and blades story.
I have loved the previous books from this author and this one didnt disappoint at all.
Their story started on a rocky road, emily had stole from the wrong person and brought her onto the radar of blade.
Blade at 1st had decided to put her in a place where she didnt want to go,but im so glad he decided not to.
Emily had been through so much and it made her a strong, badass woman with a steel backbone and boy did was that nice to see.
Blade had started as whatcome across as unfeeling, but as the story progressed ypu could see the transformation that he was a protective, yet slightly jealous alpha, but he still let emily do things her way .
These two met their match in each other and they were meant to be for each other aswell.
I so cannot wait for victors story as you saw two sides to him,the sadistic side but also the playful side with emily
Amazing book

Emily stole something from the wrong man and she was kidnapped for it. Blade does not deal lightly with anyone who stands in his way but he clearly underestimated Emily and her abilities to survive, so he spares her life. As his respect for Emily grows, he comes to the conclusion that she could be of great value to use in the mafia.
Emily is a little criminal-heroine, who will do anything to survive and to make sure that the past does not capture her again. Blade is a capo, who gives off serious alpha vibes and has a soft spot for Emily.
This is one of the best mafia romances I've ever read. It's fast paced, heart-pounding intense and all the drama, action and crime kept me intrigued. It has the right amount of steamy scenes and I love the ending!
It was the first book I've read of Nicole Cypher, but I will definitely check her other books.

My first book in the Gruco Crime family series.

It's a different take on the mafia romance that I usually sink my teeth into and it's more violent compared to my favorites. Both of the characters came from difficult upbringings, and it made them stronger, braver than ever. I also loved the action here, especially our heroine. She's so damn feisty. Oh, I would love to be as strong as her. It's about time to have a female lead that's bad ass and stands up for herself.

The only thing that kept me from giving this 5 stars is it lacks chemistry. Blade and Emily lacked that *spark* that I'm looking for. The action is so good that it overpowered the romance.

Still, excited for the other books in the series! :)

‘The Puppet’ by Nicole Cypher is the 4th book in the Gruco series and it is another darkly interesting romance. Emily is resilient, intelligent, and scarred by childhood abuse. Blade has the same qualities and uses those attributes as a capo. There’s danger, lies, and non stop action from the beginning with a cast of characters that range from bad to truly evil.

Emily and Blade are an unlikely couple: she fears for her life and he holds her fate in his hands. Through Nicole’s skillful writing, the attraction and connection between them evolves as they interact. I was mesmerized by their growing relationship as they became closer and began to appreciate each other’s personalities. I loved how he protected her and how she trusted him! The ending is deeply satisfying and emotionally rewarding!

This fourth book in the Gruco Crime Family series does not disappoint. This is the story of Blade, a Capo in the family, and Emily, a pickpocket. These two together are explosive.

As with other books in this series, this author writes them dark, steamy and may push your limits. She has quickly become one of my must reads. I love how she writes. Her characters are flawed but when they find their person they are unstoppable. Her plots are well developed and will keep you hooked. Her twists and turns keep you in suspense.

This is not a standalone romance. I would recommend reading the first three books before enjoying Blade and Emily’s story.

If you love dark mafia romances with a side of BDSM, who have MMC’s who are complete alphaholes until they realize their feelings and strong, sassy, FMC’s who know their worth, this series is for you.

Wow, this book was definitely exhilarating, I could not put the book down definitely a page turner and the characters were amazing. This story was about Emily and Blade, Emily escaped one prison to another while on the run. Blade is from a Mafia family he is ruthless if you do something wrong to him or his family you have ordered your death warrant. Emily stole from one of Bianchi's soldiers and now everyone is looking for her. When she is found she is brought to him he is intrigued. When she has been given a job she was told get into a computer and download a file and bring it back to him. As Blade and Emily kept working together the heat, the chemistry between them was getting hotter until she was kidnapped for the second time.

I’m a big fan of Nicole Cypher and her (extremely) morally grey men and kick but women portrayed in this series. Well, all her books really. This book featured Emily, a thief and Gruco mob family enforcer Blade who grabs her after she absconds with a bag of his “product.” Instead of sending her to work in the house, he finds use for her services elsewhere but they quickly fall for each other. Unfortunately, Emily is on the run from her family and had trauma from her childhood to overcome before she can really be with Blade. The book is interconnected with the others but can be read as a stand-alone. Includes a sneak peak to Victor’s book as well!.

Blade is my new book boyfriend - there's just something so intoxicating about his character in this story that makes me realise how lucky Emily is that she got busted!

Nicole Cypher once again writes two intense characters, drawn with broad brushstrokes in the story set-up but then fills in rich details that keep exposing more depth and beauty about each as we journey further with them into the book. Emily is a badass - which is such a nice change to a lot of other reads. Street smart, fast on her feet and a true equal for Blade, the chemistry between these two burns off the page.

Honestly, I really lived for this. I had not read the previous books in the series and I will definitely be reading the rest AND THAT'S A FACT.
The couple was so cute together and they just had great chemistry. The events and trauma this girl has gone through were no match for this loveable grumpy mafia guy. I thought that the connections that she made with side characters were enjoyable and light and the comedy relief was just enough to make me not sob my eyes out.
I do however wish it related more to the title with the puppet aspect and for some reason I lowkey wanted her to go through more "torture" in a sense?
Still a high 4 stars and I loved them.

His Puppet gives us Blade and Emily’s story and out of the two in this series I’ve read so far it’s been my favorite. That’s not to say I don’t think it could have been improved a bit but it is a fairly decent story. I really liked Emily and how resilient and sly she was although I think we could have used a bit more development with Blade and their relationship in general. There was also some points where transitions from scene to scene was a bit weird and it didn’t flow as well as it could have. I think we also could have gotten more closure with the Ellison plot point as that was kind of left unresolved with him being the one who sold Emily out but other than that I felt really engaged in this story and would be willing to read more from this world.
