A successful early reader, using the old trope about the monster being the opposite of us – afraid of the child under the bed, and hating the idea of being clean and having a bath. Gerald's character is a nice one to convey the slender story here, even if his mother looks about as monstrous as those knitted ballerinas old women keep their spare loo rolls under. Bright and colourful, the story is read very easily, the humour is on point and this is entertaining enough to not deserve being dropped in the bath.
This book is geared towards a kindergarten aged audience. There’s a monster who is hesitant to take a bath. Maggie, a monster tamer, comes to convince him to take a bath.
My biggest issue with this is that Maggie is using manipulation and coercion to force the monster to take a bath. She has a “super secret surprise.”
