A cute NA sports romance read, however uneventful, lacking depth and full of cliches. While I was reading chapter after chapter, I was waiting for something to happen and bring some thrill to the story. Unfortunately nothing did, apart from the twist in the end which didn’t save the whole story for me.
I know it’s fiction, but unprotected sex - especially regarding teenagers - is not acceptable.
BYEE. I really thought it would get better with the time, but it got WORST. Like especially the epilogue like wtf?! Also she says he's the perfect boyfriend for her while the whole time they messed up eachother and just apologised?! They had such a lack of communication and for what?! They just accept the apology without even talking about it or their feelings. Don't even get me started on the pick me side of that girl like: "I'm not like other girls, I read books" LIKEEEEE no <3 you ain't different hun, you're as basic as everyone! Plus why does she have to whine all the goddamn time!!! Like she always needs him to protect her because if not she'll run off crying?! And who reads a goddamn book while watching a HOCKEY GAME?! This is really giving the vibes of a wattpad story where the girl is in a concert and she reads a book while the artist is playing music. A simple comment isn't enough for me to explain my pure hatred for that book. If you're thinking of reading this book, let me save your precious time, DON'T!!!!!
If you're not giving this book 5 stars after THAT EPILOGUE, then I question your taste in books!
If you're a sucker for a hockey boy, then Campbell Atwood is your guy! This book is AMAZING. Some may think it's fast paced, but if you read the entire book it will start to make sense why!
I loved this book so so much. One of my fave reads of 2022. Cannot wait to get the paperback!
Thank you so much for an ARC copy. And I just want to mention the EPILOGUE once more... WOW!!!!!
Nope. This was the worst book. I pushed through hoping it would get better and it didn’t. The couple literally were horrible to each other yet one apology and bam they are back together. Only for the shit epilogue where it’s a figment of her imagination.
tbh i did no my enjoy this at all, when i was reading it just felt like i’m getting through it, i felt no connections with the characters. also what the hell is the epilogue saying that the mmc was never real and a figment of her imagination this whole time ?!
This book may be seen as fast paced to some readers, but the second part of the book truly kept me intrigued! Campbell is the ultimate fictional boyfriend.
If you're a sucker for a hockey romance then this is the book for you! I've read many sports romances and this is my top 3!
Thank you for providing me with an ARC copy!
PS... THAT EPILOGUE WAS THE BEST I'VE EVER READ. YOU HAD ME SCREAMING AT THE PLOT TWIST!

This was a very cute sports romance. It’s a book that captivates your attention from the beginning but needs more drama. I enjoyed it, but I was hoping for a little more action so that the story wouldn’t get too repetitive.
I liked Campbell, for once the main male character was not a stupid hockey player that turned good after meeting the girl. I also liked Hazel, but, I wish she had a bit more personality besides the ‘loves reading books and is shy’. I wish she would stand up for herself more and stop crying every time something happens.
Neveah is like the worst best friend of all time. She is more of an enemy than a friend and I hoped they would become friends once again in the end. The book needed more drama… The couple was happy for most of the book and although I usually like that there was no background drama to make it more interesting.
The epilogue was a plot twist I was not expecting. Did I like it? Not very much. But it definitely surprises us and makes our chins drop.
Overall it’s an ok book. It has some very cute moments but don’t expect much drama. It’s great to relax and read during the weekend.
Brooooooooo what the hell😭 The plot twist had me shocked. That was honestly the best part of the book. Other than that, it felt like I was reading a wattpad book. Very amateur writing. And the female lead irritated me. Sometimes the male lead irritated me too, which is very surprising. He kept on saying he loved her blah blah blah and that's all fine and dandy but it was getting too much. Like okay, should I go and swallow transformer? Anyways yeah that's it.
Many may be overly critical of this book, but if you haven't read her previous work you wouldn't see how much she's grown as an author.
I absolutely adored this book! It had all the elements of a good romance book... And you can never go wrong with a hockey romance! I have read many hockey romances and this was one of my favorites.
Campbell is the ultimate fictional boyfriend!
The ending of the book had me in tears. I was hooked throughout the entire story!
Thank you for letting me ARC read!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy and I can’t be more thankful.
I absolutely loved this book. The chemistry that these two characters have is unreal!! Campbell is a sweetheart. I loved everything about is character.
I want a relationship like this. The fact that he annotated a book for her 🫠. Loved it!!!
Hazel Ellis always preferred books over people, and who doesn’t? she’s shy and lives in her best friend’s shadow. but one day she mets Campbell Atwood *crowd cheering*, the most popular hockey player at her college, at a bookstore. and the story goes from there.
first of all, let me just say that this book has white pages 🤌🏼 loved it. such a cute romance book with a MC that we all can relate. easy to read, 272 pages. it has smut but it’s not as explicit as the books that i normally read (thank God because this girl needed a break).
this book gave me “mean girls” vibes. i HATED Nevaeh and the other girls. i found myself wishing that they got hit by a truck.
listen, i’m 100% team Campbell, but why is he always there? she’s minding her business and HE'S ALWAYS THERE?????? don’t you have a life to live?????
this book would be even better if we had Campbell's POV (but now that i finished it i understand why). this man is just perfect, and for what????? now my standards are as high as the sky. he’s now on my “top 3 favorite book boyfriend”. sorry Hazel.
speaking about her, i loved Hazel. it’s just so easy to relate with her. she needs to be loved and protected. and she needs new friends…. ugh Nevaeh
i loved the whole bookworm gf 🤝🏼 “here’s the book i annotated for you” bf
i could see the ending coming, but i was not ready for it
I kept thinking it would get better, but it was just not that great. Seemed very immature… and the epilogue was a twist but there was no saving this one.
I understood what the author was trying to do, but I didn't think she accomplished it well, not to mention that Hazel must have been one of the most annoying characters I've ever read
The female mc was an unbearable “woe is me” pick me who was CONSTANTLY “wracked with sobs” literally crying every 2 pages over the most ridiculous stuff.
The constant “conflicts” were annoying and again her always just being a pick me. The author made every single character seem extremely unintelligent and constantly contradicted things. There was no plot to this book just a girl crying for attention pretending to be shy for 250 pages. Oh and the author kept trying and failing to put in imagery when describing things jfc
Anyway don’t read this unless you feel like putting yourself in a bad mood.
I got the amazing chance to be an ARC reader for this book before it comes out. And let me tell you that I finished it in one sitting because it was that good! I couldn't put the book down and let me tell you that it's 100% a recommendation!
this was stupid and badly written. the plot sucked, there was no proper conflict and it didn't happen the 'right' way for me. also, I didn't like the epilogue. despite these points, it did have a few moments of goodness which is why this is two stars instead of one.
This book was so so good the plot twist the build up. The whole getting to know each character. Meagan is such a good writer it was impossible to be able to guess what was going to happen next.
This book was soooo good! It may seem fast pace to some at the beginning but honestly it gets so good. ALSO THAT EPILOGUE….OMG…MY MOUTH WAS LITERALLY HANGING OPEN. Thank you so much Meagan for letting me receive an ARC copy!!!
Favourite quote:
“I’ve read through that book a million times, and the more I got to know you, the more things I highlighted that reminded me of you.”
“You annotated a book for me?”
“Isn’t that what a guy does when he’s in love with a girl?”
it's a book full of clichés, a little wattpad-ish and a bit amateur-ish as well?
the dynamic between both the leads was quite chaotic and the miscommunication and mess ups and apologies were a little childish
the fmc, for me, she gave one hell of a pick-me-girl vibe
and the mmc came off too in love?
the book lacks depth in the storyline as well as the characters, the unprotected sex part amongst teenagers kind of irked me and the plot twist? well, i'd say it worsened the already hanging by a fine piece of a thread that this book was
I hated the ending, like what was that? if I could just erase it from my memory, then this book would’ve have been so much better. I considered giving this book three stars, but this just proves that a ending can ruin everything.. honestly I just want to forget everything about this book
Thank you Meagan for allowing me to read this arc. It was my first hockey romance (don’t @ me people)
This was a perfect story that I wish would have been around when I was younger (not too young because warning- it does have adult content)
I relate so much to Hazel! She’s a bookworm that would prefer to get lost in a bookstore or dive into any book and take on the worlds that writers have developed for you. She’s also an aspiring writer in this story.
She’s starting her freshman year of college with her popular best friend. Her friend tries to get her to experience the college life but Hazel puts up some resistance. That is, until she sees Campbell in a bookstore. A hot/popular hockey player in a bookstore?!
Hazel is also full of self doubt. She struggles at finding her place in this world. I feel so many of us go through this at some point. Is she good enough? Is she pretty enough? Is her writing good enough? Will people like her for her and not because of her popular best friend? Will people like her writing or just laugh at her?
